The man has been charged with four counts of child abuse.
In a bizarre incident that has come to light, a 38-year-old man from Arizona, US, allegedly left his children in a car to visit an adult store. He spent nearly an hour inside the adult store while forgetting about his children, aged between two and seven, who were inside the car with the engine shut, no air conditioning, and the windows rolled up. The man, now identified as Ascencio Largo, has been arrested.
According to a report by The New York Post, the incident occurred at approximately 3:40 PM on July 24, when the temperature at the location was around 106 degrees Fahrenheit, or 41 degrees Celsius. The police learnt about the situation after receiving multiple calls.
The officers arrived at the parking lot of The Adult Shoppe and found the children inside the car, exposed to the sweltering heat. 'Officers responded to a parking lot of a business near 24th Street and Madison Street regarding multiple children inside a vehicle that was not running. When officers arrived, they located multiple children in the car. Officers were able to gain entry into the car and secure the children," said the Phoenix Police.
His Children Showed Signs Of Heat Distress
They rescued the four kids, who were two, three, four, and seven years old, respectively. The temperature inside the car had risen dangerously to 125 degrees Fahrenheit, which is approximately 51.6 degrees Celsius. Sgt. Rob Scherer told the outlet, 'There were signs of distress, you know, colour discolouration, you know, skin bright red, sweating. Clearly, the heat was affecting the children." The children were taken into an air-conditioned police SUV and given water afterwards.
After rescuing them, when the police started looking for their guardian, they found their father inside the sex store. Ascencio Largo was inside the store for an hour. Officers also noticed that he smelled of alcohol. They also noted that his driver's license revealed that he should have had an ignition interlock in place, but his car did not have one.
The Man Has Been Booked Under Child Abuse
Maricopa County Commissioner Jane McLaughlin said during a court hearing that he initially refused to acknowledge that it was his car. 'It just indicates a strong level of reckless culpability of knowing. It's difficult to say that anybody who grew up in Arizona doesn't know that children and dogs die in closed cars," Jane McLaughlin said.
Ascencio Largo has now been charged with four counts of child abuse and four counts of endangerment.

Meghalaya govt orders probe into misappropriation of 4,000 MT coal

Shillong, Aug 2 (PTI) The Meghalaya government has ordered an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of over 4,000 metric tonnes (MT) of coal in the state, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said on Saturday. Tynsong, who also holds the Home portfolio, said that instructions have been issued to the district authorities and the police to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter. 'We have asked deputy commissioners and superintendents of police to investigate if there has been any misappropriation or illegal diversion of coal," the deputy chief minister told PTI. The directive comes close on the heels of a revelation by a High Court-appointed committee that over 4,000 metric tonnes of coal, already declared as extracted and inventoried, have vanished from two designated storage sites. The committee, in its latest report to the Meghalaya High Court, said the disappearance raises serious questions about the state's mechanism for monitoring coal stock and preventing illegal transportation. Tynsong said the government will take action if any wrongdoing is established. 'If there is anything wrong, we will proceed according to the law. Even if it requires us to approach the Supreme Court, we will do so," he added. The state's probe will focus on tracing both diesel and coal inventories, including movement, documentation, and field verification. A comprehensive report will be prepared and shared with the court in due course, an official said. PTI JOP BDC view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. ED books Kerala charitable trust for FCRA violation

Agency: New Delhi, Aug 2 (PTI) The Enforcement Directorate has registered a forex violation case against a Kerala-based charitable organisation for receiving Rs 220 crore from abroad in alleged violation of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA). The investigation pertains to Kunhahmed Musliyar Memorial Trust located in Kasargod and its chairman Ibrahim Ahmad Ali, an NRI. Searches were conducted under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) at two locations in Kasargod on Thursday in connection with the case, the ED said in a statement. The Trust, according to the ED, received more than Rs 220 crore since 2021 from Ibrahim Ahmad Ali, which was reflected in the books of accounts as 'unsecured" loans. However, no loan agreement, interest rate terms, or repayment schedule were available, and no repayment had been made till date, the probe agency said. The probe found that these funds were received by Ali from a UAE company named Universal Lubricants LLC. In the absence of supporting documents and in view of the clarification given under a section of the FCRA, the said loan prima facie qualified as 'foreign contribution" under FCRA, the statement said. According to the ED, the Trust is 'not registered" under the FCRA and does not possess the 'mandatory permission" or a designated FCRA bank account to receive foreign contributions. It was found that a part of these foreign contributions was 'utilised" for the purchase of agricultural land in India, in violation of the existing regulations. The search action found that the Trust received Rs 2.49 crore in 'cash" from Ali in violation of FEMA provisions. 'During the search, incriminating documents, ledger accounts showing unsecured loans of Rs 220 crore, the cash book of the Trust, and a hard disk containing financial data were seized," the ED said.
