San Beda sweeps EAC to stay in Final Four race
San Beda University swept Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-16, 26-24, 25-21, on Saturday in the NCAA Season 100 men's volleyball tournament at the San Andres Gym in Manila.
With the win, the Red Spikers improved to 10-7 and remained in the hunt for a spot in the Final Four.
Dominic Castañeda had 21 out of San Beda's 22 excellent sets as three spikers scored in double digits for the Mendiola-based squad.
Ralph Cabalsa led San Beda with 15 points from 12 attacks, two blocks, and an ace, while Anrie Bakil had 12 points built on eight attacks, three blocks, and an ace. Axel Van Book added 12 points to go with six digs.
Frelwin Taculog, meanwhile, led the Generals with 17 points as the already-ran EAC slipped to 5-12.
San Beda will face defending champion University of Perpetual Help System DALTA next on Wednesday, while EAC will try to end its season on a high note against San Sebastian College-Recoletos on Tuesday.

Meralco Bolts to represent PBA anew in expanded EASL

(Photo: PBA Media) The Meralco Bolts have been named the sole representative of the PBA in the 2025-2026 East Asia Super League (EASL), marking the third straight time the franchise will suit up in the regional club tournament. Meralco made its EASL debut in 2023 alongside another PBA bet in TNT. That edition saw the Bolts rack up one win against five losses to bow out of the Final Four run. The club returned last year and collected two wins against the Macau Black Bears and Busan KCC Egis, but suffered three straight defeats, including a heartbreaking double overtime loss to the New Taipei Kings, in the next games to end its campaign. With Meralco's participation now sealed, the EASL 12-team cast has been completed. The Bolts are drawn in Group B together with the Black Bear as well as last edition's Final Four teams in Taoyuan Pauian Pilots and Ryukyu Golden Kings as EASL now features 12 teams from 10 last edition. Group A consists of Hong Kong Eastern, Seoul SK Knights, Taipei Fubon Braves, and Utsonomiya Brex while Group C has Alvark Tokyo, Changwon LG Sakers, New Taipei Kings, and Ulaanbaatar Xac Broncos. Mapua shares pride in Cardinals' stand in World University Games
Mapua University shared its pride in representing the Philippines in the global stage. The Cardinals finished 14th overall in the World University Games held in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany last July 16 to 27. "The Mapúa Cardinals is incredibly proud to have represented the Philippines in the recent FISU World University Games 2025 last July 16-27, 2025 in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany. With over 8,000 student-athletes from over 100 countries representing various sports, our very own basketball team successfully bagged a win over Chile in a sweet 77-69 victory," the University said in its post. "This participation, which was also recognized by the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP), also serves as a strategic move for the team to foster camaraderie as they march into the upcoming NCAA Season 101." In the tournament, the Cardinals ended the group phase winless against Brazil, Czech Republic, and Poland. The NCAA defending champions also fell short against Lebanon, 73-67, in the quarterfinals. In the classification round, however, the Intramuros-based squad defeated Chile, 77-69, before falling to Argentina, 84-71. Letran, San Beda set up semis duel vs. Adamson, UST in Asiabasket

The Knights outlasted the Formosa King Tigers with a narrow 104-100 win behind a near double-double outing from big man Kevin Santos, who posted 19 points together with nine rebound, three blocks, one assist, and one steal to power the quarterfinal victory. A Santos layup late in the first quarter sent the Knights to a huge 20-point lead at 35-15, but the visiting club slowly crawled its way back as Tseng Hsiang Weii converted a basket that trimmed their deficit to three, 96-99, in the final 1:11 of the fourth. Santos then provided the timely baskets, sinking a pair of free throws before throwing down a dunk that saw Letran taking a crucial 103-96 lead with 41 ticks left. Luis Tapenio shone as well with 15 points, six rebounds, and two assists while Jimboy Estrada and Deo Cuajao chipped in 10 and nine markers apiece. Meanwhile, San Beda eked out a 68-58 win against United Prep Canada behind the tandem of Bryan Sajonia and Yuki Andrada. Sajonia led the charge with a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds laced with four assists, two steals, and one block while the graduating Andrada churned out 16 markers, two boards, one dime, and one block. Letran and San Beda will now cross paths with UAAP teams with the Knights facing Adamson University and the Red Lions squaring off with University of Santo Tomas both on Thursday. —JKC, GMA Integrated News
