Week 1 is closing in for the Dallas Cowboys, but the contract standoff with star pass rusher Micah Parsons remains unresolved. The latest updates on negotiations don't look promising, which is why one ESPN pundit believes that the Penn St. product won't finish his career in Dallas.
Parsons is in training camp and doing his part to support his teammates, but at some point, a resolution needs to be reached. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has stayed confident that a deal will get done, which is why he downplayed the trade request.
Still, if Parsons isn't in the starting lineup on Sept. 4 against the Philadelphia Eagles, Jones may have to accept that the request is more than just a leverage tactic.
Will Micah Parsons eventually leave the Cowboys?
On Monday's edition of "First Take," co-host Stephen A. Smith stated that he doesn't see Parsons finishing his career in Dallas, and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones could be looking at the financial side as to why a move that sends the defender out of town could occur.
"Jerry could change his mind, get him signed, and obviously, he can franchise him or whatever," Smith said. "But I think that Jerry is looking at the money he's already doled out on Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, a couple of other players, and spending over damn near $200 million on three players, and Micah Parsons will be a fourth.
MORE:
"You can't conduct business in the NFL that way. You still got to fill out a roster. And I think that right now, he is contemplating, looking at Micah Parsons and seeing what value you can get in return for his services.
"You might be able to pick up a couple of first-round picks. You might be able to pick up a couple of players. I mean, this could be a mega, mega deal if you're Jerry Jones, and you're probably looking at it that way. Plus, he seems a bit salty towards Micah Parsons."

Is Micah Parsons preparing to miss games for the Cowboys?

Yahoo Sports host Andrew Siciliano, senior NFL writer Frank Schwab and senior NFL reporter Charles Robinson discuss the ongoing negotiations between Dallas and its star pass rusher, how Jerry Jones's recent comments could be impacting the talks and the likelihood of Parsons skipping the season opener against the Eagles. Hear the full conversation on 'Inside Coverage' - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript Charles, there is still no Micah Parsons deal, and some people think this is heading for a divorce. Is heading for a divorce. Is either side going to blink? And when? Yeah, I mean, it's, um, you know, I'm, we talked about the whole idea like, hey, is this some kind of you know, Jerry Jones marketing ploy at this point, um, you know, no, because to me, um, once Micah said, I'm not speaking, and now you have the Cowboys kind of battening down the hatches, um. Sometimes you get to the silence and you sit there and you go, something's going on, this feels positive. But I think you will see something develop on the field. Remember when we talked about James Cook. All of a sudden, James Cook steps on the practice field. Next thing you know, he's got a deal, and we're rolling again. It doesn't feel like that in Dallas, not at all. And if anything, it feels like we're now moving toward the regular season, and there's a realistic question: is there a chance that Micah misses some regular season games? I think Jerry's dug in. I really do. Like all of his comments this time. I compare this to like C.D. Lamb or Zach Martin or whatever other standoffs he's had. Dak, on this one just seems a little different, and I don't know why exactly, but he just seems like he's willing to wait this out. I'm willing to win this, and I don't know, it's, it's a little weird. No, I don't think he's there week one. I just think it's getting impossible to do that now. Didn't you guys think the tone got a little more serious once Jerry started bringing up? Hey, there's no deadline. This guy's already under contract. Why do I have to work a deal when we've got a guy who's already signed? He signed a contract. That to me, I'm like, he didn't say before. It's always it's always the leverage the team has, and Jerry has made the point as well that there is no hard and fast rule that after year three, we have to do a deal with a first-round pick. The Bengals waited another year. Dolphins waited another year. I argued the Dolphins should have waited one more year, but that was just me. And they did the deal, so be it. You know, just because Kyler Murray and Eric Burkhart hit send on a ransom note the day that we all landed in Indianapolis heading into his third year, or after his third year, I demand a contract now, doesn't mean that all these deals need to be done. Now, I agree with you on Jerry's tone. I also think if you go all the way back to that press conference, Charles, where my jaw was on the floor a little bit as well, but not necessarily for what he said, what you just repeated, but when he said, hey, I've also paid guys too early like Traveon Diggs, for example. And that was a shot that I think resonated even more in the locker room than anything said about Micah. It's, hey, I regret paying some of your teammates. That hits home, I think, in a big, big way. And remember too, if you're Micah, I wonder if, if you're sitting there and you're going, Okay. I've played four years. I'm still, um, you know, I'm, I'm in a situation where for me to sit out, for it to get really, really, really expensive for me is a franchise tag year, right? So don't you sit there and, and maybe say to yourself, this is kind of, like, if I'm gonna miss games, if I'm, if I'm gonna kind of make a last stand here. This is my moment to do it. In the back of Micah's mind, I, I don't know, he would never say this, maybe he doesn't even think of that often. He might be thinking, oh, you want to play without me against the Philadelphia Eagles? That offensive line, Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts. Let's see what happens. Let's, let's see. All right. You, you think you can play without me? Cool. Let's see, let's see what happens against the Eagles week one. It's a fair point. I don't think he's trying to tank or to hang his teammates out. But yeah, you know, the best, the, the, the best leverage for a player is withholding services. Close

Blue Jays' George Springer reaches impressive personal milestone

Blue Jays' George Springer reaches impressive personal milestone originally appeared on The Sporting News George Springer has already outdone himself this season for the Toronto Blue Jays. He hit 19 home runs in 2024. But now in 2025, he's already up to 20 with a lot of season left to play. Springer homered Tuesday night to reach that 20-homer plateau, and it's an exceptional accomplishment in his career. It's now the ninth time that Springer has hit 20 homers in a season. MORE: Juan Soto, Josh Naylor and Cal Raleigh are making stolen bases cool again The moment is especially cool because it took Springer 145 games last season to get to the 19 HRs, but it's only taken 105 this season to get to 20. But now he's batting .291 with an .899 OPS. He's got 13 steals and 61 RBI, too. This is a special campaign for one of the top outfielders of his generation. Dallas Cowboys' Latest Star Attraction Overhyped?

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones loves to hype up his team. Which, when you're the owner of an NFL team, it's probably natural to gloat about the awesome investments you've made, especially when it's as cool as having a professional football team. Still, while the Jones family has made a lot of excellent decisions over the years, such as plucking Dak Prescott out of the fourth round in 2026, making Micah Parsons the 12th overall pick in 2021, they've also had a few investments that didn't pan out. Recently, the Cowboys decided to take a chance on trading for 2024 sixth-round pick Joe Milton from the New England Patriots. Milton showed big arm talent during last year's preseason, and he followed it up with an impressive win over Buffalo's second-string unit in Week 18 of last season too. The Cowboys only had to send a fifth-round pick to the Patriots in exchange for Milton plus a seventh-rounder. He's since made his preseason debut with the Cowboys, completing 17 of 29 passes for 143 yards and a touchdown. The Cowboys' owner was already hyping Milton up before his debut, and that likely won't change now that he's seen him throw in live action. However, Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer suggests Cowboys fans shouldn't believe the hype when it comes to Milton. 'I wouldn't take the cheese on Joe Milton. But he's definitely fun to watch.' SI's Albert Breer on Joe Milton Milton is certainly fun to watch. Not many quarterbacks have the type of arm strength that Milton does. Unfortunately, as the Patriots and now Cowboys have discovered, there are also too many times when Milton overthrows his targets. Still just 25 years old, Milton has plenty of time to work out the kinks. But for now, he should simply be viewed as a developmental prospect who still has a ways to go before being viewed as a potential long-term starter.
