Nothing's most important piece of software gets a major upgrade
Essential Space now features Google Calendar integration | Screenshots credits: Nothing For those who use the recording feature of their Nothing phones a lot, the company now makes it possible to edit and share your recordings. You'll be able to fix and complete AI summaries obtained after recording meetings, interviews, and conversations.Besides that, you'll be able to send your recordings to anyone, anywhere as an image, PDF, or Markdown. Simply tap on the recording and the format you want, and then choose to share it via Gmail, Drive, or any other compatible platform.
Before you check your phone for the new changes to Essential Space, it's important to mention that the latest updates to Essential Recorder are only available on the Phone (3). According to Nothing, support for other phones with Essential Key is coming soon.
Essential Space's Recorder gets upgraded | Screenshots credits: Nothing For the unaware, this is not a Nothing OS update, so in order to get the new features it's enough to update Essential Space via the Google Play Store. If you have auto-update enabled on your Nothing phone, you don't even need to visit the Google Play Store. Introduced with the Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro back in March, Essential Space has proven to be one of the standout software features of Nothing's latest phones. The level of polish and functionality of Nothing's Essential Space surpasses anything that Google and Samsung have included on their phones to date. Add to that the fact that Nothing continues to refine Essential Space and introduce new features, and it seems that we're witnessing a rather unfair race for the most streamlined and useful UX/UI for smartphones.

Peter, 09 August 2025 Samsung's Buy and Try program that we wrote about a couple of weeks ago is still ongoing, but the discount has changed and the prices on the Flips are lower now. This program offers an extended return window with the option for a full refund after up to 100 days. More details here. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 and Z Flip7 FE now have a flat £150 discount. In addition, Prime Student subscribers can get £100 off. The base model is now cheaper, but without the offer of a free storage upgrade, you have to pay a bit more for the 512GB model than you would have two weeks ago. The Galaxy Z Flip7 FE also lost the free storage upgrade – however, the flat £150 discount is greater than the 10% discount from before (since this is a cheaper model). So, you can get the 256GB model for the same cost (£5 less, actually) and have the option of a cheaper 128GB phone. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is also part of the Buy and Try program, but it only has a £100 discount at checkout and it's only available to Prime subscribers. To be fair, a year of Prime is £95, so it would effectively pay for itself with this discount. But check this out – for some reason the combo of a Galaxy Z Fold7 512GB and Galaxy Buds3 Pro costs £48 less than just the 512GB Z Fold7 above. This isn't listed as eligible for the Buy and Try program, though. The Motorola Edge 60 has only a £30 discount, but it's already a pretty cheap phone. It doesn't look like it, though, with its Pantone color options for the faux leather back and curved 6.67' OLED display. This is a solid panel with 1220p+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support and 4,500 nits peak brightness. The 50MP main camera has a relatively large 1/1.56' sensor, there's a high resolution 50MP ultra-wide camera and, a rarity in this price class, a 10MP 3x/73mm telephoto lens. The 5,200mAh battery does 68W wired-only charging. The one weak spot of this phone is the Dimensity 7300 chipset – it's not bad, but you can have much faster chips in the £300-£400 range. Check the Calendar. It's time for this app to get its Material 3 Expressive makeover
If you're looking for a date and go to apps like Tinder or eHarmony, it's possible that you're looking on the wrong app. After all, no app has access to more dates than Google Calendar. And now the Android version of the app is going through its Material 3 Expressive redesign. While some of the changes are hard to find, you can really see the new look in the Month view, where the days are separated with rounded corners as opposed to the straight lines used in the previous version. Also in the Month view, the Google Calendar Material 3 Expressive redesign uses the Dynamic Color feature to bring in colors that are prominent in your phone's wallpaper. Days of the week that need more letters to spell correctly are now abbreviated. These lines show up better than the thinner, harder-to-view lines used for the version of the Google Calendar app pre-Material 3 Expressive redesign. My Pixel 6 Pro running the latest release of Android 16 QPR1 Beta has the right version of Google Calendar, but not the makeover. That suggests that Google has to flip a switch to activate a server-side update. To see which version of Google Calendar is on your Android phone, go to Settings > Apps > See all xxx apps. Scroll to Calendar, tap on it, and that takes you to the apps "App info" page. Scroll all the way tot he bottom and you'll see the version number listed.
