Former Scots footie star accused of deliberately getting booked in gambling scam

Ex-Livingston star Keaghan Jacobs, 35, faces court over claims he intentionally earned a yellow card in a 2019 match vs Celtic to aid a betting scam. A former SPFL star is due to appear in court accused of deliberately getting himself booked in an attempt to cheat at gambling. Keaghan Jacobs, 35, is alleged to have picked up a yellow card on purpose while playing for Livingston in a Scottish Premiership league match against Celtic. He is said to have 'acted in a manner whereby he would receive a yellow card for the purpose of enabling or assisting others to cheat at gambling ' during the clash at his team's Tony Macaroni stadium on October 6, 2019. A second man, Conan McDiarmid, 40, is alleged to have placed bets – and arranged for others to take punts – on Jacobs getting a caution. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! The case against Jacobs, from Edinburgh, and McDiarmid, from Bonnyrigg, Midlothian, called at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last week. Proceedings against Jacobs were continued without plea to later this month. McDiarmid's lawyer lodged a not guilty plea. A trial date was set for later this year. The match involved in the alleged betting scam saw Livingston secure a 2-0 win, handing the Hoops their first defeat of the season. Jacobs was shown the yellow card by referee Willie Collum for a foul on winger Jonny Hayes as the game was coming to a close in the 95th minute. Jacobs is a South African national who had two spells with Livingston between 2007 and 2015 and again between 2017 and 2022. The star has played a total of 252 times for the West Lothian club and scored 23 goals. He has also turned out for South African club Bidvest Wits, Falkirk, Arbroath and is currently playing with Lowland League club Gala Fairydean Rovers. He is believed to have made football history when he played alongside his three triplet brothers – Kyle, Devon and Sheldon – in a Scottish Third Division match between Livingston and Albion Rovers in April 2010. The 2-0 victory in front of just over 600 fans is said to be the only time four brothers have turned out for the same professional senior team in the same match. McDiarmid played as a defender with a number of amateur clubs, including Edinburgh United and Whitehill Welfare, before he retired in 2020 and moved into management.

Douglas Ross snubs Holyrood summit to attend 'seminar' near the Bahamas

EXCLUSIVE: The former Scottish Tory leader, who is convener of the Education Committee, will take part in the Holyrood session virtually from the the Turks and Caicos Islands. Douglas Ross is snubbing a top education summit after agreeing to fly out to a sun-kissed island near the Bahamas. The former Scottish Tory leader will not be at the Holyrood session in person as he will be in the Turks and Caicos Islands for a seminar. ‌ Ross criticised Education Secretary Jenny Gilruth last month after she missed Holyrood business to campaign in a council by-election. ‌ The Conservative MSP, who is now the convener of Holyrood's Education Committee, said at the time: 'Will Jenny Gilruth, not in her usual condescending way, give an apology to this parliament for missing this session, but more importantly, an apology to our pupils, our parents and our teachers for the disrespect she showed?' Gilruth and other SNP Ministers are set to appear in front of the Committee on June 11th, but Ross will not be in the room. He will be 4,000 miles away in the North Atlantic on Commonwealth Parliamentary Association business and will log in to the meeting from abroad. ‌ His Turks and Caicos Islands trip involves an 'election observation mission' and 'post election seminar'. Weather forecasts show the temperature on the Islands will hit 30 degrees when he is there, while a tourism website makes clear the location's key attraction: 'Our spectacular beaches and pristine marine environment are the defining feature of the country, and are the primary attraction for tourists. There are hundreds of beautiful beaches and coasts across our many islands to discover.' ‌ An SNP source said Ross, who had to leave the Holyrood chamber last week over claims he heckled First Minister John Swinney, had made a gaffe: "Throughout his time at Holyrood, Douglas Ross has treated his role as an MSP as a part-time gig to fit around his other jobs - including his various jaunts across Europe as an assistant referee. "This has been a bit of an embarrassing week for Mr Ross after he was removed from the Chamber for his poor behaviour on Thursday. After his tirade of unjustified claims about other members' parliamentary attendance it is now somewhat ironic that Mr Ross will be logging in from near the Caribbean." ‌ A Scottish Conservative spokesperson said: 'Douglas will be attending this meeting and holding the SNP 's education secretary and her colleagues to account.' Ross' time as Scottish Tory leader was dogged by claims he was not fully committed to the job. As well as being an MSP, he remained as an MP and was paid to be a linesman at football matches. He quit as leader during the general election campaign after he enraged colleagues by announcing he wanted to stay on as an MP. He will stand down as an MSP next year.

Macaulay Tait tells Hearts boss Derek McInnes he's ready to roar after showing his teeth for Livingston

The Jambos youngster made the most of his loan spell in West Lothian and is determined to come back with a bang Macaulay Tait has told Derek McInnes he's ready to fight for a place in his new look Hearts side after coming of age at Livingston. The Jambos kid is heading back to Tynecastle for pre-season after a superb six month loan stint with the Lions – where he helped fire David Martindale's men to promotion to the Premiership after lifting the Challenge Cup. ‌ The 19-year-old was a smash hit in West Lothian and he's convinced the spell can boost his chances of being part of the new manager's plans. ‌ Tait said: 'Coming here has been brilliant for me, it's been a great experience. 'I've won promotion and won a cup final, so it's been amazing and I've loved it. 'I feel a much better player now, I feel like a more Scottish midfielder able to deal with the physicality of the game. ‌ 'That was one of the big things I had to improve in my game and I feel I'm much better on the ball now. 'The last five months have been massive for my development and I'll go back to Hearts looking to challenge for a place there. 'Obviously we have a new manager so I'll have to show him I can provide something for the team. ‌ 'I'm looking forward to it. Derek McInnes ' record speaks for itself given what he's achieved at other clubs so it's exciting times there. 'I will enjoy this for a few days, have a few weeks off and then get back into it for pre-season there.' ‌ Tait is still on a high after Livi's dramatic play-off success – with Martindale's heroes coming from two down to triumph over Ross County in the second leg showdown in Dingwall. He said: 'We made it hard for ourselves but we always had the belief. 'That's what happens when you've been playing well all season. ‌ 'We did well last Thursday and after going 2-0 down in Dingwall we really turned up. 'It's fine margins in the Premiership, County punished us for two slack moments but we were able to show our quality after that. 'There's a really good squad here, I hope the gaffer is able to keep it together because they can make an impact.'\ ‌ You can get all the news you need on our dedicated Rangers and Celtic pages, and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season.
