Latest college baseball regionals projection for Iowa
Iowa baseball is enjoying a tremendous 2025 campaign and the Hawkeyes are in control-their-own-destiny mode for a Big Ten regular season championship.
As Iowa (32-15, 21-6 Big Ten) takes a weekend off from Big Ten play, the Hawkeyes are getting set for a big series against No. 10 Oregon State. Iowa will close its regular season next weekend by hosting No. 5 Oregon where the Big Ten championship will hang in the balance.
Each of those two series represent tremendous opportunities for the Hawkeyes to bolster their at-large NCAA Tournament case. Iowa is currently the No. 67 team in the RPI while Oregon State is ranked No. 7 and Oregon State is ranked No. 24.

Bill Belichick compares UNC football's offseason practices to NFL practices

How did Bill Belichick compare UNC football practices to those in the NFL preseason? The North Carolina Tar Heels, desperately seeking for a return to college football relevancy, hired Bill Belichick to be their next head coach back in December. Belichick, who has nearly 50 years of NFL experience under his extensive coaching resume, won eight Super Bowls between his time with the New York Giants and New England Patriots. UNC is hoping that Belichick, despite being a first-time coach at the college level, will channel his NFL experience and intensity into a winning football program from Chapel Hill. That includes practices, which North Carolina players first donned offseason pads for on August 2 – the first day of Training Camp. During media availability on Wednesday inside the Kenan Football center, Belichick spoke extensively about his live work with the Tar Heels, comparing it to his time in the pros. 'We've done a lot more live work here than we ever did in the NFL, at any team I was ever on," Belichick said. "So that part of it's been actually an interesting thing to see. Some of the coaches that are on our staff that have had a lot of college experience have talked about the necessity to do that again, obviously, without pre season games. We do need to do it and we've done it. The amount of contact that we've had with the very few guys losing any playing time, at all, because of it has been good.' One of top issues Belichick has to solve, in practice, is finding UNC's next starting quarterback. Experience gives Max Johnson the upper-hand alone, but he spent most of 2024 recovering from a broken leg. Gio Lopez transferred in from South Alabama, leading the Jaguars to a winning record and their second-straight bowl victory. Bryce Baker wowed at East Forsyth High School – and he's one of three freshman (Au'Tori Newkirk, Gary Merrill) in North Carolina's QB room. The Tar Heels also need to choose nine new defensive starters, figure out their wide receiver depth chart and starting tight end, amongst other positional battles throughout the roster. Whomever UNC decides to start during Week 1 against TCU, there's just over a week to do so. Live practices give Belichick the best look at his players, who are excited to play for the GOAT this fall. HBCU Adds Big Ten Champs to Already Loaded Schedule

Coppin State women's basketball isn't ducking anyone. Fresh off announcing marquee matchups against South Carolina and Tennessee, the HBCU just added another giant to their 2025-26 gauntlet: Big Ten champion Ohio State. Head coach Darrell Mosley revealed that Coppin will face the Buckeyes on November 9 at Value City Arena in Columbus. The Eagles also tacked on a road game at SMU on December 10, rounding out a schedule that's quickly becoming one of the most ambitious in all of HBCU hoops. Coppin's four Power Conference opponents read like a who's who of women's college basketball royalty. The Eagles will open with Big Ten champion Ohio State on November 9 in Columbus, then travel to Knoxville on November 23 to face eight-time national champion Tennessee. On January 18, Coppin will welcome the 2024 national champion South Carolina Gamecocks to Baltimore, before closing the stretch with a December 10 trip to Dallas to battle AAC contender SMU. The matchup with Ohio State will mark the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The Buckeyes finished 26-7 last season, reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament, and brought back Jaloni Cambridge, a unanimous All-Big Ten First Team pick and Co-Freshman of the Year. Guard Chance Gray returns after starting all 33 games and scoring over 1,000 career points, while Boston College transfer T'yana Todd adds one of the nation's top three-point strokes. In short, Coppin is stepping directly into the fire. For Coppin State, this isn't unfamiliar territory. Just two years ago, the Eagles hosted Angel Reese and LSU inside PEC Arena, giving Baltimore fans a courtside look at the eventual national champions and one of the most recognizable names in women's basketball. That willingness to challenge the sport's elite has become a calling card for the program. And now, under a new head coach, the Eagles are doubling down on that identity. The Mosley era at Coppin State is officially underway after a major coaching change this offseason. Longtime coach Jermaine Woods stepped away, and in stepped Darrell Mosley, a Baltimore native who spent the last three seasons at Arizona State-two as the Sun Devils' associate head coach. Mosley previously turned Lincoln (Pa.) into a perennial contender in the CIAA and brings 15 years of experience at the college level. Athletic Director Derek Carter called him "a leader ready to take Coppin to new heights," while Mosley himself vowed to build "a culture of excellence both on and off the court." Scheduling Ohio State, Tennessee, and South Carolina in Year One? That's a statement. For HBCU women's basketball, these types of games are more than just paydays-they're platforms. Coppin State players will test themselves against some of the best talent in the country, from WNBA prospects at Tennessee to one of the deepest Big Ten lineups at Ohio State. Win or lose, it's visibility that strengthens recruiting, energizes alumni, and shows that HBCU programs aren't afraid to swing big. And with Mosley at the helm, Coppin State is swinging harder than ever. The post HBCU Adds Big Ten Champs to Already Loaded Schedule appeared first on HBCU Gameday. Copyright HBCU Gameday 2012-2025

SEC approves 9-game conference schedule beginning in 2026, joining Big Ten and Big 12

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — The Southeastern Conference is moving to a nine-game conference schedule beginning in 2026, ending a yearslong debate and potentially easing a path toward another expansion of the College Football Playoff. The change was approved by conference presidents and chancellors Thursday. It previously had been recommended by league athletic directors. 'Adding a ninth SEC game underscores our universities' commitment to delivering the most competitive football schedule in the nation,' SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said. 'This format protects rivalries, increases competitive balance, and paired with our requirement to play an additional Power opponent, ensures SEC teams are well prepared to compete and succeed in the College Football Playoff.' The SEC has played eight conference games each season since 1992 when the conference expanded to 12 teams with the addition of Arkansas and South Carolina. The Atlantic Coast Conference still plays eight league games. The Big 12 and the Big Ten already play nine. Under the SEC's new format: — The league will continue with a single-standings, non-divisional structure; — Each school will play three annual opponents focused on maintaining many traditional rivalries; — Each team's remaining six games will rotate among the remaining conference schools; and — Each team will face every other SEC program at least once every two years and every opponent home and away in four years. SEC teams are required to schedule at least one additional non-conference game against a team from the Atlantic Coast, Big Ten or Big 12 conferences — or Notre Dame. 'The SEC has established itself as the leader in delivering the most compelling football schedule in college athletics,' Sankey said. 'Fans will see traditional rivalries preserved, new matchups more frequently, and a level of competition unmatched across the nation.'
