Top prospect Roman Anthony gets first career hit in second MLB game

BOSTON — Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony, the top-rated prospect in all of baseball, hit a two-run double on Tuesday night in Boston's game against Tampa Bay for his first career base hit. A day after going hitless with an RBI groundout in his major league debut , Anthony came up with runners on second and third in the first inning and drove the ball to left to give the Red Sox a 2-0 lead. The 21-year-old second-round draft pick went viral over the weekend when he hit a 497-foot grand slam in Triple-A Worcester. He batted .288 with 10 homers and 29 RBIs in 58 games for the WooSox this season. Anthony's call-up on Monday was so sudden his parents didn't have time to make the trip from Florida, but they were at Fenway Park on Tuesday night to see his second game. ___ AP MLB:

Cleveland Browns 'Formula' is Defense in 2025

Cleveland Browns 'Formula' is Defense in 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cleveland Browns are hoping to recover from an abysmal 3-14 mark last season, where not much went right on either offense or defense. Advertisement The team is hosting a quarterback room with two veterans and two rookie draft picks, and one of them will look to be the savior of the offense this season. But it could be the defense that saves the 2025 campaign for the Browns. SI's Albert Breer discussed Cleveland's upcoming season and what would have to happen for things to go right, and to maybe even post a winning record. First, he mentioned the obstacles. "[The Browns] need a lot of things to break right. They're in a tough division, obviously," Breer said on the MMQB Podcast. "I think we're going to have high expectations for the other three teams. ... By virtue of being in that division, their schedule is not easy. ... They could be staring down the barrel of 0-6 here." Advertisement Then the job that general manager Andrew Berry has done comes into question, but if they win, he should get credit. "Andrew Berry has really come under the microscope there, and there are some people who feel like he should be on the hot seat," Breer continued. "... I think if they are to get to nine or 10 wins, it's going to be because Andrew Berry did a great job drafting and putting players on the roster." If the Browns are to win, Breer says it will be thanks to the defense. It could be the key to a winning "formula." "If you look at the makeup of the roster, there are so many areas where they need to have gotten it right. ... There's a formula here if some of those things pan out," Breer said. "Play really good defense, have a kickass running game. Advertisement "The formula here is to shorten games and lean on your defense ... that's the formula." Steelers star skips the start of mandatory minicamp

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (WKBN) – Pittsburgh Steelers star linebacker T.J. Watt skipped the first day of mandatory minicamp on Tuesday. The four-time All-Pro and 2021 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year is entering the final season of the four-year extension he signed in September 2021. Complicating matters is the $40 million deal signed by Cleveland's Myles Garrett in March, which made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. 'Certainly we'd like him to be here, but certainly not surprised by where we are,' said Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin. 'We've expressed the desire to get the business done, he has as well, and so we'll continue to work. We've been here before.' Watt finished the 2024 season with 11 1/2 sacks. His absence from mandatory mini-camp provided opportunities for linebacker Nick Herbig and rookie Jack Sawyer. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
