English man reported missing from Highlands tourist site
Police are searching for a missing Englishman who disappeared near a Highland army barracks and museum.
Ronald Windle, 54, has been reported missing from the Ardersier area near Inverness.
He was last seen at around 2am on Saturday July 27 near Fort George - a popular tourist attraction and active army barracks, specifically used by the Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland.
Concern is growing among Ronald's family and friends as his current whereabouts are unknown.
At the time of his disappearance, he is believed to have been wearing a black T-shirt featuring a Corvette logo and black jeans. He is described as a White English male, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, with thinning grey/white hair.
Police note that Ronald may have been walking in the direction of Inverness and have appealed for motorists on the road at that time to share their dashcam footage.
Acting Police Sergeant Stuart Mackenzie of Burnett Police Station in Inverness stated: 'Ronald has now been missing for a number of hours, and we are increasingly concerned for his welfare.
"We are appealing particularly to motorists who were in the Fort George or A96 areas, and who may have dashcam footage, to get in touch.
"If you saw a man matching Ronald's description walking in the direction of Inverness, please contact us. We currently have a number of police resources deployed in the area, and public assistance could be vital in helping us locate Ronald.'
Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101, quoting incident number PS20250727- 1809
Fort George, where Ronald was last seen, has been described by Historic Environment Scotland as "the finest example of 18th-century military engineering anywhere in the British Isles".
Fort George was one of the measures introduced by the government to suppress Jacobite Rising of 1745 to 1746 following the Battle of Culloden.
Once the Jacobite threat was finished, the fort became a recruiting base and training camp for the British Army
Between 1881 and 1964, the fort served as the depot of the Seaforth Highlanders and is currently the home of the Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland.

"He was a dutiful son, a loving brother, and the leader of the family in spirit, not in appearance. "He was cheerful, chivalrous, pure of heart, quick to give, and passionate about others. "Over time, he became the family's charisma, leaving behind an unforgettable legacy in every gathering. "He was his father's support, his familiar companion, and the assistant to his uncles and maternal uncles. "He was the most compassionate person to ever visit a mother's heart and the closest to his sisters' embrace.' A 21-year-old Cambridge man appeared at Peterborough Magistrates' Court this morning, after he was arrested in connection with the murder. He has been is due to appear at Cambridge Crown Court on Wednesday, August 6. A 50-year-old man, also from the city, also remains in custody on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Man appears in court charged with attempted murder after police officer 'stabbed'
Jake Barrett, 31, has been remanded in custody after the incident in Greenock. A man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after a police officer was was allegedly stabbed in Greenock over the weekend. Jake Barrett, 31, of no fixed abode, was also charged with theft when he appeared in private at Greenock Sheriff Court on Monday, August 4. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear again within the next eight days. Police were called to a report for a concern for a man in Greenock in the early hours of Sunday. The injured male officer was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment for a stab wound. He has since been discharged. Superintendent Emma MacKay said: "The officer and his colleagues showed incredible bravery and professionalism during this difficult and challenging incident and I would like to thank them for their efforts. "The incident was contained with no further risk to the public. "We'd like to thank our emergency services colleagues and partner agencies who were on the scene and provided vital assistance during the incident. Glasgow children's nurse behind bars after £200,000 drugs and dirty cash raid
"You shamed yourself and your profession. It is a tragedy for you and for those affected by your drug dealing." A children's nurse is behind bars after a £200,000 drugs and dirty money raid. Kiran Farooq had been held by police in Glasgow's Finnieston on December 30 2023. Police went on to seize hauls of cocaine, ecstasy and cash from a nearby upmarket flat that she had the keys for. Farooq today appeared in the dock at the High Court in Glasgow where she pled guilty to being concerned in the supply of both class A drugs. A judge stated she had "shamed" herself and her medical profession by what she had done. She was warned she faces a lengthy jail-term when she is sentenced next month. Farooq had been spotted by officers briefly going into a car, leaving then entering her own vehicle. Prosecutor Mark Mohammed KC told the court: "Police suspected they had observed a drugs transaction." She was followed to a secure car park at the flats in the city's Lancefield Quay. Farooq was stopped and got out her motor. She then dropped the keys for a property there. Officers initially seized almost £12,000 inside a small carrier bag in the car. Police, at first, looked through the letterbox of the flat and spotted an open bag which appeared to contain drugs. Explaining the search that then occurred, Mr Mohammed said: "Cocaine and MDMA (ecstasy) were recovered along with a quantity of cash and drug dealing paraphernalia." This included a consignment of cocaine that had a purity of up to 77 per cent. Police found thousands of ecstasy pills as well as the drug in crystal form. There was also a haul of a substance used to bulk out narcotics to maximise profits for dealers along with a number of sets of scales and part of a kitchen blender. Farooq, of the city's Yorkhill, had also been accused of being involved in the supply of other drugs including ketamine, cannabis and bromazolam. Prosecutors accepted her not guilty pleas to those charges. Laura Anne Radcliffe, defending, today told the court Farooq had been a nurse at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow. The advocate added: "She has now resigned from that position." Lord Mulholland deferred sentencing on Farooq for reports. He told her: "You have pled guilty to quite extensive drug trafficking. You shamed yourself and your profession. It is a tragedy for you and for those affected by your drug dealing. This will inevitably result in a prison sentence, quite an extensive one." Farooq had been on bail, but was remanded in custody meantime. Lord Mulholland also ordered that the dirty cash seized be forfeited following the case today.
