Kanwad Yatris from Gurugram carry 1,000-kg golden Shiva Kanwad on wheels in Haridwar; covers 250 km, carries 40 litres of Gangajal
The specially designed Kanwad, created in Sonipat, carries 40 litres of sacred Gangajal and has become a center of attention along the pilgrimage route.
The annual Kanwar Yatra began on July 10, during which devotees collect holy water from rivers and transport it to Lord Shiva temples, covering hundreds of kilometers while observing fasts and performing rituals.
"This is a unique Kanwad, made in Sonipat, weighing around 800-1,000 kgs and holding about 40 litres of Gangajal. People are appreciating its grandeur. We will cover nearly 250 kilometres with it, showcasing our devotion to Lord Shiva," said Sonu Rana, one of the Kanwariyas.
The Uttarakhand State government has initiated "Operation Kalanemi" to combat individuals who impersonate Sanatanis and damage its reputation.
"Those who are deceiving people here, hiding their identity, hurting faith and belief, harming Sanatan, such people will be identified, a campaign will be run against such people, and those who are hurting religion and faith by hiding their reality will be caught, action will be taken against them," Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami told reporters.

The CM expressed concern about numerous cases where anti-social elements, disguised as saints, have cheated people, particularly women. These activities not only hurt religious sentiments but also damage the image of social harmony and Sanatan tradition.
Dhami drew a parallel between these imposters and the demon Kalanemi, who had attempted to deceive by disguising himself as a saint. He noted that many such "Kalanemi" are currently active in society, committing crimes under religious pretenses.

"The officials at the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of External Affairs, Union of India are also directed to communicate this order to all international airports and other ports within India, and the immigration authorities be intimated to ensure that neither the petitioner (woman) nor the minor child is permitted to leave the country," the order said. The hearing has been posted for July 18. The child's mother, a Russian citizen living in India since 2019 on an X-1 visa, had her visa extended periodically by the Supreme Court during ongoing proceedings. On May 22, the court also instructed Delhi Police to maintain discreet but effective surveillance on both parents' residences.

Murder convict shot dead in Patna hosp, killers flee freely

The assailants walked out of the facility unhindered, triggering panic among patients and staff. The deceased, Chandan Mishra (36), a convicted criminal from Buxar district, was undergoing treatment at a hospital on Bailey Road in the Shastri Nagar police station area. He had been serving a life sentence at Beur Central Jail for the 2011 murder of a businessman and had been released on parole on medical grounds. He had recently undergone liver surgery and was recovering at the time of the incident. The shooting took place around 7.15am. According to police, the attackers entered the hospital, located the victim's room on the second floor and opened fire. CCTV footage shows the five assailants brandishing pistols outside room number 209 before firing several rounds at close range. Their faces were clearly visible in the footage, which has since circulated widely on social media. "Due to his criminal activities, he had earlier been shifted from Buxar Jail to Bhagalpur and was later moved to Beur Central Jail. He had been convicted for the murder of businessman Rajendra Kesari and was admitted to Paras HMRI on parole. " Sharma added that the killing appeared to be the result of gang rivalry. "There was a gang named Chandan-Sheru and the way the shots were fired suggests that the murder was committed by a rival group, possibly due to internal conflict or personal enmity," he said. The incident has triggered political criticism. Leader of opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav condemned the killing and criticised the Nitish Kumar-led govt. Man, 3 sons get life term for killingneighbour over terrace cable row
Agra: A court in Firozabad has sentenced a 60-year-old man and his three sons to life in jail for killing their neighbour over a terrace cable dispute five years ago. The court of additional district and sessions judge Vimal Verma also imposed a fine of Rs 1.2 lakh on the convicts, ADGC Ajay Kumar Yadav said on Thursday. The incident took place in Firozabad's Jaumai village on July 30, 2020, when Prakash Chandra, 55, had removed an electric cable placed on his terrace by the accused. Thereafter, Kharag Singh, 60, and his sons, Dharmendra Singh, Mukesh Singh and Dinesh Singh, in their early 30s, dragged Prakash into their house and beat him with sticks. When Prakash's daughter tried to intervene, one of the accused shot at her, leaving her injured. Both were taken to hospital, where Prakash succumbed to his injuries. Prakash's son Sabloo Kumar, who filed a police complaint, said, "Around 8 pm, my father was called by Kharag Singh to his house for compromise.
