has become an advocate for cancer awareness. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum has been open about her journey in the most honest way, sharing the difficult times and trying her best to say positive.
Thankfully, Teddi is finally turning the corner on her battle. Her body responded positively to immunotherapy. The remaining tumors in her brain and lungs either disappeared or shrank. But with that good news, Teddi also reflected on whether doctors could have caught the cancer before it spread.
Teddi Mellencamp's doctors missed her melanoma spreading
Teddi gave an exclusive interview with Glamour on July 17 to update fans on her situation. She stressed the importance of advocating to doctors and being proactive. In her case, the routine checkups weren't enough to catch the cancer spread earlier on.
'When you go to a doctor, you just assume that's it. I'm doing what I'm supposed to do,' the RHOBH alum said. 'At first, I didn't even really do the research on melanoma because I didn't want to know all of the bad things. But there's a difference between self-diagnosing yourself and being an advocate for your own health.'
Teddi continued, 'I never really thought about it because I was like, 'I go to a doctor every three months. Why wouldn't they get me checked?' My highest melanoma on my shoulder was stage one. When I finally followed up on it, they were like, 'We didn't do the scans, because you didn't have anything above a stage one on your body.' But look what happened.'
Teddi has had 17 surgeries to remove melanoma spots since 2022. In February 2025, tumors were discovered on her brain and lungs, leading to radical change in strategy. The former Bravolebrity had chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatment.

Orange County family hoping clinical trial saves their mother from brain cancer

An Orange County mom, who survived the unimaginable pain of losing her three young children, is in a desperate fight to save her life. Lori Coble's son and daughters were killed in a crash on the 5 Freeway in 2007. Almost exactly a year later, she gave birth to triplets who are now about to start their senior year in high school. Jake, Ellie, Ashley and their dad Chris are praying and hoping that Lori's glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer, discovered just a few weeks ago can be cured. "So much has happened to my family and I can't help but think, why is this happening again?" Ellie said. "It's just so unfair but through both of these trials, we've really built a community and we have so many people looking out for my family and helping us. I couldn't be more grateful for the support." Chris said the brain cancer affects Lori as if she had a stroke. "A bad stroke that affected the left side of her body," he said. "Her motor control is highly restricted. She also can't really see very well because the tumor behind her right eye is affecting her vision. She needs pretty much constant care every moment of the day." Lori recently had surgery to remove part of the tumor. An online fundraiser is collecting money to help cover the costs of in-home care. She'll have a second surgery at City of Hope next week to remove the rest of the tumor, which Chris described as necessary but risky because she could lose complete mobility on her left side. "She's definitely fighting this fight," Ashley said. "I know she's going to try her hardest." Lifting the family's spirits is a new clinical trial at City of Hope. Doctors will use the DNA from a cancerous tumor to create a personalized vaccine. "There have been some patients on this vaccine trial that have lived longer," Lori's neurosurgeon Dr. Benham Badie said. "There is some hope and some preliminary data that this vaccine may work. Every patient is different. We don't know if she will get the vaccine and whether it's going to work for her." The clinical trial is randomized, meaning half of the patients will get the vaccine. Chris said he's run out of tears and is kept awake at night thinking about what his family is going through. "I feel like we've had enough pain in our lives that we could really use a break somewhere along the line," Chris said. "That's not fair to say because every person that has this aggressive brain cancer is going through those same concerns, same tragic realization. I just hope we can see her, keep her alive for as long as possible now."

Spirit Airlines passenger denied boarding after cosmetic procedure; airline cites medical safety concerns

A Houston woman recovering from a cosmetic procedure was denied boarding by Spirit Airlines at Miami International Airport Wednesday afternoon, despite showing medical clearance from her doctor. "Even though y'all have my medical clearance, even though my doctor's—y'all are still restricting me to fly," Shataria Banks is heard saying in the video recorded Wednesday afternoon at the Spirit Airlines counter. Banks told reporters she had arrived in Miami from Houston last week for a cosmetic procedure she preferred to keep private. After several days of recovery, she returned to the airport with documentation from her doctor clearing her to fly. But when she tried to check in for her flight at the Spirit counter, she was told she would not be allowed to board. "Well, we don't have it in writing—verbatim—from their spirit supervisor. It was just how I was treated on top of them just neglecting what my doctor said," Banks said, describing the exchange with Spirit employees. In a statement, Spirit Airlines said: "The safety and well-being of our Guests is our top priority. Our records show the agents followed our procedures and consulted with a designated on-call medical professional via our vendor MedLink to verify the Guest's fitness to travel." "The medical professional at MedLink was informed of the Guest's documentation and advised that the Guest was not fit to travel based on their condition at the time and in the interest of their safety. The Guest was ultimately issued a refund for the flight." Banks said she understands the need for safety but felt there should be clearer protocols in place for passengers traveling post-procedure. "I'm not saying that they can't deny their travelers and they're looking out for their safety, but have something in place, because everybody don't have money to waste for a new flight. I never want to fly with them, ever, ever," she said. Although she received a refund, Banks and her husband had to pay for an extra hotel night and were booking a return flight to Houston on another airline.

Health officials confirm two more measles cases in Kent County, Michigan

Health officials in Kent County, Michigan, announced on Wednesday that two more measles cases were detected, bringing the total to four in the county. Dr. Adam London, county administrative health officer, said the cases were confirmed late last week. London said they did not immediately issue a public notice because the cases were not linked to a public exposure site or posed a risk to the general public. The county did not provide any further details on the people infected. "We're sharing this update to be transparent and to clarify our approach moving forward. The Kent County Health Department will notify the media and public about measles cases only when they involve public exposure sites and/or a potential public health risk. This approach helps protect patient privacy while allowing us to focus efforts where they're most needed," said Dr. Adam London, county health officer, in a written statement. Earlier this month, the county reported a second measles case in a child, months after the first case was reported in April. Officials say the child and their family had a recent history of traveling internationally. According to data from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, a total of 18 cases have been detected in 2025 as of July 17. The department provides weekly updates every Thursday. Health officials say measles is highly contagious and can spread through the air when a person who is infected breathes, coughs or sneezes. Symptoms include high fever, cough, runny nose, red and watery eyes, tiny white spots on the inner cheek, gums and roof of mouth and red rash that is blotchy, raised and usually starts on the face. In the United States, more than 1,300 cases were confirmed in 39 states, with Texas having the most cases (over 700 confirmed). Note: The video above previously aired on June 9, 2025.
