LUCKNOW: Relatives of Raj Kushwaha, 21, the man accused of plotting the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, demanded justice and insisted their boy has been framed. They said he called Raja's wife and alleged co-conspirator
Sonam
"Didi" - holding fast to that word to claim she is not his lover.
The family claimed Wednesday that Raj, who worked as an accountant in Sonam's family business, had no personal ties beyond their workplace. His interactions with Sonam were strictly professional, according to younger sister Suhani. "He called Sonam Didi. He cried when he heard about Raja's death. He went to the funeral and prayed for Sonam's safety," she said.
"My grandson is innocent," grandmother Ram Lalli said. "He kept to himself, worked hard, and never had an affair with anyone. Sonam got her husband killed and is dragging Raj into this." Grandfather Darbari Singh added: "He's the only boy among four siblings. We've never heard his name linked with any girl."
The family said Raj is a soft-spoken, dutiful man shouldering responsibilities since his father died during the Covid pandemic.

LG's nod for probe against ex-PWD engineer for ‘graft'
New Delhi: Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved an investigation against a former executive engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD), Health Zone, in connection with an alleged scam involving forged bills and unauthorised payments to private contractors, resulting in a loss of Rs 200 crore to the state exchequer. Officials said a retired chief engineer of the PWD and two private firm owners have already been arrested in the case. The LG has now also cleared the way for an investigation into the roles of five more engineers. The investigation approval follows a proposal by the Directorate of Vigilance (DoV), based on a request from the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB). The case originated from a complaint received in March 2021 from a private individual, alleging irregularities in under-construction hospital projects undertaken during the Covid-19 pandemic. An initial ACB inquiry reportedly found the allegations to be substantiated. According to the case file, several purchase orders related to the project were issued either much before the contract was awarded to the firms or 4-6 months after the completion of the work, which raised serious doubts over its execution. Some of the firms from which the purchases were shown to be made were not found to be operating from the given addresses. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo The inquiry conducted so far revealed that the officials of PWD are collectively responsible for the alleged offence. Payments were cleared by the officials to the firms/contractors against forged/fake bills, which caused a huge loss to the govt exchequer. Moreover, forged signatures and presence in the spot quotation were done by the alleged PWD officials in order to give benefit to their favourite contractors, the DOV mentioned in the case file. Officials said the National Capital Civil Service Authority (NCCSA) unanimously recommended the proposal for investigation, emphasising the need for a thorough examination of the actions of the involved officials. The ACB findings indicated that the alleged misconduct not only eroded public trust but also posed a serious threat to the integrity of govt operations. The investigation will focus on the roles of officials of PWD's health zone to determine their individual responsibility in the alleged corruption. In his remarks, the LG stressed the gravity of the allegations and said it was in the interest of justice to allow an investigation into the matter. He also directed the DoV to promptly process all investigation-related requests under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, in line with prescribed timelines. Sonam made 30 calls to lover in week leading up to husband's killing
Lucknow: Investigations into the murder of Indore's Raja Raghuvanshi have revealed that his wife Sonam was in regular touch with her lover Raj Kushwaha on phone till her husband's murder on May 23. In all, Sonam made 30 calls between May 16 and 23 to Raj Kushwaha, some lasting barely 30 seconds while some of a minute's duration. The calls were made at odd hours and the two exchanged messages through WhatsApp and other app-based messaging facilities almost round the clock. Call detail records (CDRs) accessed by the investigators confirm a pattern of frequent, strategic communication. Police are currently analysing message backups, app data, and location histories to establish the full extent of the conspiracy and premeditation behind the murder plot. Sources said the digital trail confirms that Sonam began coordinating with Raj on May 15, the same day the two allegedly met at a café near her home in Nandbagh, Indore—just four days after her wedding to Raja. Investigators believe this sustained digital contact was not mere communication but a carefully planned conspiracy. Police allege that Sonam paid ₹50,000 to Raj Kushwaha to fund the travel of three men—Vishal, Akash, and Anand—tasked with following the newlywed couple to Shillong. The accused trio reportedly left Indore between May 17 and 18, travelling first to Delhi by train and then boarding the Rajdhani Express to Guwahati. Meanwhile, Sonam and Raja boarded a flight from Indore to Shillong on May 20. During this time, Sonam allegedly kept Kushwaha updated with live location sharing, enabling the accused to track the couple in real-time. Police suspect that this coordination ultimately led to the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi on or around May 23. Investigators are now examining message backups, app data, GPS logs, and deleted files to reconstruct the events leading to the crime and establish the extent of premeditation and criminal conspiracy. Police sources indicate more arrests may follow as the digital footprint of the accused continues to unravel. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here .
