Ohio State football players well-represented at top end of 'College Football 26' ratings

Yahoo06-07-2025
We continue to count down to the release of EA Sports' "College Football 26," the second-year reboot of the popular college football video game franchise. Those who purchase the Deluxe Edition will have early access on July 7, with everyone being able to gain access on July 10.
Leading up to that, EA Sports has been releasing some information about the game that's sure to become a staple of many college football fans. One of those things the game-maker is sending out on social media is some of the ratings of the teams and players. We already know that Jeremiah Smith is the highest-rated player in the game, and that Ohio State is ranked as the third-best team you can play with, but on Tuesday, EA Sports released some of the top-end rankings of other players.

Included were the top ten ranked offensive players, and yeah, Smith was on top of that list. However, instead of the original screenshot of him being an overall 99, it now appears as though the superstar wideout is an overall "98." There aren't any other OSU players among the top ten on the offensive side, and only one other Big Ten player, Penn State Nicholas Singleton, who barely made the cut as the No. 10 rated offensive player with an overall 93. Alabama receiver -- who just so happens to be with Smith on the cover of the game -- is the second best player with an overall rating of 96.
But wait. Not only does Ohio State have the highest-rated offensive player, it also has the best defensive player in the game, with safety Caleb Downs ranking No. 1 with an overall rating of 96. Like the offensive side, Downs is the only OSU defensive player in the top ten and just one of two Big Ten players with Oregon safety Dillon Thieneman coming in at No. 10 with an overall rating of 93.
In addition to sharing the top ten on both sides of the ball, EA Sports also released the top five by position, and one other Buckeye made those lists with transfer tight end Max Klare checking in as the No. 3 tight end in the game with an overall rating of 91.

We'll have a further breakdown of Ohio State players when the complete list of ratings is released by EA Sports. That should be an interesting look at what the game believes about OSU's roster for the 2025 season. For now, though, somewhat unsurprisingly, the Buckeyes are well-represented at the top of what the game has to offer.

Former NFL QB Teddy Bridgewater suspended from Miami Northwestern coaching job, cites self-reporting

Teddy Bridgewater, the former NFL quarterback and current high school coach, has been suspended from his coaching role at Miami Northwestern, the school he once attended. The action stems from allegations that he provided impermissible benefits to players. Bridgewater, 32, acknowledged the suspension in a Facebook post Sunday, saying he remains committed to the program. "The suspension came from MNW," Bridgewater wrote. "It's impossible to suspend someone who doesn't work for you. So if I'm suspended from MNW, I'm free to go to another school of my choice but I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE." Coach says he self-reported payments Bridgewater previously posted on Facebook that he had paid for Uber rides, meals and recovery services for players last season. He asked for public donations to help cover those costs in the upcoming year. In the same post confirming his suspension, Bridgewater said he had self-reported the payments to the school. "There was no investigation… We SELF REPORTED," he wrote, adding that he believed the school administration wanted him gone. Bridgewater led Miami Northwestern to a Class 3A state championship in his first year as coach in 2024. Bridgewater started started in 65-of-78 career games in the NFL, since being drafted in 2014: Vikings (2014-17), Saints (2018-19), Panthers (2020), Broncos (2021) and Dolphins (2022).

Sankey provides update on SEC's potential move to nine-game schedule

Oregon won the Big Ten regular-season football title last year with a 9-0 record. Arizona State, Iowa State, Brigham Young and Colorado tied for the Big 12 regular-season title with 7-2 records. Over in the SEC, Texas won the crown during the regular season at 7-1. Nine plus zero equals nine. Seven plus two equals nine. But seven plus one, that's only eight. And therein lies the problem. The problem as far other conferences see things, anyway. SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey spoke Monday at the opening of SEC Football media days from Atlanta about a number of topics, not least of which was where the league stood on increasing its conference schedule from eight games to nine. With the way the College Football Playoff works, an eight-game conference slate provides the SEC an inherent advantage over schools that play a nine-game schedule. Namely, it provides an advantage over the next two most powerful conferences in the sport. Sankey suggested a decision would be coming around the corner. "We have to make decisions about the '26 season and adjust," Sankey said. "If we're going to go to nine games, then there have to be games moved or rescheduled. If we stay at eight, probably a little easier on that part of the logistics. Once we make a decision in the conference office, we're pretty much ready to go." Eight league games are on the slate for the 2025 season, but most SEC teams have only three nonconference opponents scheduled for 2026 and later. Oklahoma, for example, will host Texas-El Paso and New Mexico in 2026 and will also travel to Michigan. The Sooners don't currently have a fourth out-of-league opponent scheduled. The reason eight games are preferable to nine in the SEC is that a fourth non-league game almost certainly provides an easier opponent than a fellow SEC team would provide. OU is better off playing Kent State, as the Sooners are set to do this season, than, say, Kentucky, even if the Wildcats are considered one of the lesser teams in the SEC. Kent State could more easily be chalked up to a win, thereby potentially giving Oklahoma one more win than its Big Ten or Big 12 counterparts. As for when the SEC will decide, Sankey suggested the league would take up talks again in league's spring meetings in Destin, Florida. "If you go back to when we made our last decision, it was in Destin, and two weeks later we had opponents out," he said. "Shortly thereafter, we were prepared with dates and sites sort of thing." All-Star pitching controversy, MLB Draft reactions & weekend recap

The All-Star festivities are already underway in Atlanta, and there has been no lack of drama leading up to Tuesday night's main event. With rosters in flux as players drop out of the game, the latest conversation is around who has been selected to be on the mound. The Brewers' Jacob Misiorowski was named to the NL All-Star team as an injury replacement. Misiorowski has only pitched 25.2 innings in the majors; the fewest innings a pitcher has ever pitched and been named to an All-Star team. That being said, having an ERA of 2.81 and allowing only 12 hits, 8 runs and striking out 33 in those 25.2 innings is pretty impressive. Is five starts enough to justify an All-Star appearance? MLB seems to think so, as they look for who will draw the most eyes Tuesday night, but the players seem to have taken exception to this selection. Jake and Jordan discuss everything surrounding the drama and give their takes. Advertisement Some more news about who will be on the mound was announced over the weekend as we found out the All-Star pitching starters. Pittsburgh Pirate Paul Skenes and Detroit Tiger Tarik Skubal are set to face-off in Atlanta on Tuesday. This matchup has provided a lot less controversy and a lot more excitement than the Misiorowski drama. Jake and Jordan talk about what they expect to see from this matchup and how the selection process went down. We got to see MLB's future on and off of the field this weekend. Not only did the MLB Futures Game happen, which the guys chat about, but the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft took place on Sunday. The Washington Nationals selected Eli Willits, a 17-year-old shortstop, with the first overall pick. The drama did not stop there and our draft guru, Jordan, breaks down all the highlights and takeaways from the first day of the draft. Finally, non-All-Star related MLB games were played this weekend. The Red Sox mopped the Rays, the Mariners swept the Tigers and the Brewers swept the Nationals. The guys fill you in on all the highlights from a packed weekend in baseball. Plus, Paul Konerko received a signed White Sox jersey from the Pope.
