"I prayed that we become Viksit Bharat soon": Assam Governor offers prayers at Kamakhya Temple post Ambubachi Mela
Guwahati (Assam) [India], June 26 (ANI): Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, along with his wife, visited the Kamakhya Temple on Thursday morning and offered prayers to Goddess Kamakhya as the temple reopened for devotees after the Nivriti of the Ambubachi Mela.
A large number of devotees also thronged the historic Kamakhya Temple as it reopened for public darshan following the conclusion of Mela.
Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya said he prayed for a Viksit Bharat and for strength to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to continue the nation's development journey.
Speaking to the reporters, Lakshman Prasad Acharya said, 'I prayed that we become Viksit Bharat soon. The arrangements have been done properly to facilitate smooth darshan for devotees. I also prayed that Maa Kamakhya gives 'shakti' to PM Modi, who is engaged in further developing the country.'
The annual event commemorates the yearly menstruation cycle of Goddess Kamakhya, believed to be the embodiment of feminine power.
Ambubachi Mela takes place during the monsoon season, specifically in the Assamese month of Ahaar, around the middle of June.
After conducting Ambubachi Prabritti rituals, the main door of the Kamakhya temple closed on 22nd June and will reopen on June 26. It is one of the most revered centres of Tantric practices and is regarded as one of the oldest of the 51 Shakti Peethas in India.
The annual Ambubachi Mela, one of Assam's most revered Hindu festivals, commenced on Sunday at the historic Kamakhya Temple atop the Nilachal Hills in Guwahati. The event began with traditional rituals, marking the start of the four-day-long celebration that draws devotees from across India and abroad.
According to the government of Assam website, the Kamakhya temple, 7 km from Guwahati, is one of the largest Shakti shrines in the country. Situated on the Nilachal hills, it is an important pilgrimage centre for tantric worshippers and Hindus.
Several other pujas are organised in this temple, including Durga Puja, Durgadeul and Madandeul. Some of the other pujas performed in this temple include Manasa Puja, Pohan Biya and Vasanti Puja. (ANI)

Bairabi-Sairang line completes, Aizawl to join Railway network
Aizawl (Mizoram) [India], June 30 (ANI): Mizoram's capital, Aizawl, is set to receive its first-ever rail connectivity with the completion of the 51.38 km Bairabi-Sairang broad gauge rail line. The Bairabi-Sairang railway line in Mizoram is fully complete and awaits inauguration. Connecting Aizawl to India's rail network via Silchar, the project includes 48 tunnels & multiple bridges, marking a major boost to North East connectivity & development. Chief Engineer, Bairabi-Sairang Project, Vinod Kumar, pointed out that the project was sanctioned in 2008-09, and later it was declared a National project. He said the biggest challenge has been the season, as the region has a prolonged monsoon season and also has landslide issues. '...This project was sanctioned in 2008-09, and later it was declared a National project. Land acquisition was completed till 2014, and then PM Modi laid the foundation stone, and now it has been completed,' Kumar said. Maharashtra CM Fadnavis, CJI BR Gavai attend inauguration of MNLU buildings; highlights 'Indianisation' of new criminal laws
Nagpur (Maharashtra), June 30 (ANI): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said the three new criminal laws brought in by the Centre are not merely a change in names but a step towards the 'Indianisation' of the criminal justice system. Fadnavis made the remarks while attending the inauguration ceremony of the Administrative Building and Central Library Building of Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU) in Nagpur. The event was also attended by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and other dignitaries. 'We have made three new laws in our criminal justice system. The IPC of 1860 has been renamed as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the CrPC has been renamed as the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and the Indian Evidence Act is now known as the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. This is not just a change in the nomenclature, but we have also done the Indianisation of these laws,' Fadnavis said. He further said, 'On one side, it's our Constitution, which is the greatest in the world, and the Constitution, which has evolved by many decisions of the Courts, is our fundamental value. Along with this, we must adapt ourselves to counter the evolving challenges.' The new criminal laws, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, came into force across India on July 1, 2024, and are aimed at improving transparency, speeding up trials, and addressing modern legal challenges. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government on Sunday withdrew two controversial resolutions related to the implementation of the three-language policy in schools, following criticism from opposition parties. The resolutions, passed on April 16 and June 17, had made Hindi a compulsory third language in Marathi and English-medium schools, triggering backlash over concerns of linguistic imposition. Clarifying the state's stance, CM Fadnavis announced the formation of a committee to examine the implementation of the three-language formula. The committee will be headed by Dr Narendra Jadhav, a former Rajya Sabha MP and economist. 'A committee under Dr Narendra Jadhav will be formed to discuss the implementation of the three-language formula in the state... Until the committee submits its report, both government resolutions (of April 16 and June 17) have been cancelled by the government,' Fadnavis said. The CM's statements sought to allay concerns after the opposition accused the government of pushing Hindi at the expense of regional languages. The inauguration at MNLU comes amid ongoing discussions about education, language policy, and legal reform in Maharashtra and across the country. (ANI)
