Imran slams govt over controversial Mines & Minerals Bill
In a message posted to X, Khan stated unequivocally that 'the bill is going nowhere' unless he receives a detailed briefing regarding what he described as an attempt to 'bulldoze' the legislation through the KP provincial assembly.
Turning his attention to the controversial 26th Constitutional Amendment, Khan said his party's warnings had been 'entirely justified,' claiming that Pakistan's justice system is 'utterly crippled.'
He alleged that not only is justice being denied, but it is being 'deliberately obstructed,' with legal cases involving him and his allies excluded from court listings.
'The Constitution and the rule of law are being trampled with impunity,' Khan declared, accusing authorities of treating judicial decisions 'with open contempt.' He warned that this 'institutionalised lawlessness' is deeply eroding investor confidence in the country.
The PTI founding chairman further said that he had instructed the party's legal team and parliamentarians to hold an urgent presser to highlight the legal and constitutional implications of the amendment.
He also directed PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja to dispatch a detailed letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi, outlining alleged injustices faced by his family and legal counsel.
He urged Chief Justice Afridi to fulfil his constitutional responsibility as the 'guardian of the rule of law,' adding, 'If he remains silent in the face of such brazen illegality, who will be held accountable when the entire legal framework collapses.'
On the May 9, 2023, incident, which he described as a 'false flag operation,' Khan accused the authorities of using it to persecute PTI through 'politically motivated prosecutions.'
He claimed that critical CCTV footage that could exonerate his supporters has been either hidden or destroyed by those calling the shots in the country.
'Since day one, I have demanded that the footage be made public to expose the truth and hold the actual perpetrators accountable,' he added.
Khan also levelled accusations at the government for what he termed a 'systematic dismantling' of state institutions, adding the judiciary, the parliament, the police, and the agencies like the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) have all been stripped of credibility and functionality.
Expressing grave concern over the recent spike in terrorist attacks, the ex-prime minister said the PTI government had long warned of such threats and engaged diplomatically with the Afghan government.
He blamed the 'illegitimate PM Sharif regime' that succeeded him for ignoring these warnings and failing to take timely action.
He called for the KP government to be granted full authority to engage with Kabul, emphasising that the province continues to bear the brunt of terrorist violence.
'Every day, our brave police officers are martyred,' he said. 'Yet the media remains shockingly indifferent. This is not merely a provincial issue – it is a national emergency.'
The ex-prime minister also criticised the government's approach to Afghan refugees, branding it a 'disaster.' He once again directed the KP provincial assembly to pass a resolution and debate what he called an 'unlawful and inhumane' deportation campaign.

Deportation of illegal immigrants begins
ISLAMABAD: The federal government has begun the deportation process for illegal foreign nationals, including Afghan citizens holding Proof of Registration (PoR) cards, according to an official notification issued by the Ministry of Interior. The notification adds that the government has invoked provisions of the Foreigners Act, 1946, specifically Section 14-B, to implement the Illegal Foreigners Repatriation Plan, which has been formally approved by the federal cabinet. 'It is expedient to implement the Illegal Foreigners Repatriation Plan repatriation in respect of PoR card holders whose legal status has lapsed. Their continued stay in the country is now illegal,' the notification reads. The government directed concerned authorities including the district administration, police, prosecution and jail administration to take appropriate measures for the arrest, detention- whether in jails or other suitable premises- and repatriation of all such illegal foreigners. Now; therefore, the federal government is pleased to invoke the provisions of sub-sections (1), (2) (c), (2) (e) (i) and (2) (g) of section 3 of the Foreigners Act, 1946 (XXXI of 1946), in relation to PoR card holders forthwith, it says. It says that the government is further pleased to accord its consent to, and to order, the repatriation of all such foreigners who are under trial or undergoing sentence under Section 14B of the Foreigners Act, 1946 (XXXI of 1946): Provided that no such foreigner shall be repatriated who is under trial for, or undergoing sentence in respect of, any offence other than an offence specified under the said Act, it says. Five children killed, 13 hurt in Lakki Marwat mortar shell explosion
LAKKI MARWAT: At least five children were killed and 13 others injured in an explosion caused by a mortar shell in the Surband Langar Khel area of Lakki Marwat district on Saturday. According to District Police Officer (DPO) Nazir Khan, the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Saddar police station when a group of children discovered an old mortar shell lying outside the village. Unaware of its danger, they brought it home where it exploded while they were playing. The blast killed four girls and a boy on the spot, all of whom were between the ages of six and 12. Thirteen members of the same household, including women and men, sustained injuries of varying degrees and were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, Rescue officials confirmed. Rescue 1122 teams swiftly responded, transferring the injured and deceased to a local hospital for treatment and medico-legal formalities. District Police Officer (DPO) Lakki Marwat and other law enforcement personnel reached the site soon after the explosion and cordoned off the area. Bomb disposal experts have also been called in to search for any additional unexploded ordnance. Earlier, security forces successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt by Indian-sponsored militant group Fitna Al-Khawarij near the Pak-Afghan border, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). According to the ISPR, Indian-backed Fitna Al-Khwarij was killed during a decisive operation in Hassan Khel, North Waziristan. The security forces also recovered a large cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosive materials. The military's swift response has once again demonstrated its readiness and resolve to counter cross-border terrorism. The statement reiterated Pakistan's firm commitment to eliminating Indian-sponsored terrorism and highlighted that security forces remain fully prepared to confront any threats along the border. ISPR also called upon the interim Afghan government to prevent the use of Afghan soil for launching terrorist attacks against Pakistan, particularly by foreign-sponsored proxies.

Unjust police certificates stigmatise acquitted citizens: LHC
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has recently observed that issuing a police character (PS) certificate reflecting a criminal history of an accused despite his acquittal by a court of law in an FIR violates the individual's constitutionally protected right. The court said such a practice not only violates the individual's protected right to human dignity but also imposes a lasting and unjust stigma upon a citizen who has been exonerated through due judicial process. The court said, once an accused has been acquitted by a competent court of law, he is to be considered, treated and regarded as innocent person under the law. Despite a conclusive acquittal of an accused any continuous reference or inclusion of the relevant FIR in official documents like police character certificate is unwarranted, the court observed. The court passed this order in a petition of Abdur Rehman Faryad challenging issuance of a PC certificate mentioning his name in the FIR despite his acquittal by a competent court of law. The court said the petitioner is entitled to a PC certificate that reflects his acquittal and the absence of any subsisting criminal liability. The court said the allegations levelled against the petitioner do not involve moral turpitude, nor do they relate to any offence against the State. The court said it would be legally unjustified to draw any adverse inference or attach any stigma to the petitioner merely based on the registration of an FIR. The court; therefore, directed the Home Secretary Punjab to ensure the issuance of a PC certificate in favour of the petitioner, which accurately reflects his present legal status. The said certificate shall exclude and omit any reference whatsoever to FIR registered at Police Station Nawan Kot, Lahore, in the light of the petitioner's lawful acquittal and the absence of any existing criminal liability, the court added. The court noted that law enforcement agencies have the administrative authority to maintain internal records of reported incidents, including FIRs, for various legitimate purposes. The court said the retention of such data, so long as it is confined to lawful administrative use and is not disclosed or misused in a manner prejudicial to the rights of the individual and cannot be construed as a violation of fundamental rights guaranteed under the Constitution. The court; therefore, directed the office to transmit copy of the court order to the Inspector General of Police Punjab and the Chief Secretary Punjab, to ensure its strict implementation in light of the court's directions and observations.
