Spotify's new podcast tab is a solid upgrade… unless you liked it the way it was

Phone Arena4 days ago

Spotify is rolling out some new podcast-focused features on its mobile app to make it easier to keep up with the shows you follow and discover new ones.
One of the biggest changes is the new 'Following' feed. Spotify admits that finding the latest episodes from your followed podcasts hasn't always been easy, so this dedicated feed will now sit right inside your main Podcasts tab on the Home screen, giving you a single place to catch everything new.
The new Following feed should already be live on your device.
Spotify is also bringing podcast and video podcast recommendations straight to your Home feed. These suggestions will show up right below your shortcuts, making it easier to find new content to listen to – or watch – without digging through menus.
Recommendations are now in your Home feed. The goal here is to cut down on the time you spend searching for fresh content and Spotify says it is going to keep experimenting with new ways to improve podcast discovery.Another feature coming soon is the 'In this episode' section on podcast pages. This will include links to other shows, songs, audiobooks, playlists and anything else the hosts mention during the episode.
Creators can add these links themselves, so you won't have to go searching for them later. Honestly, this one sounds pretty useful – how many times have you wanted to save a song or book a host mentioned but forgot to write it down?
Soon, you should also see a new 'In this episode' section on podcast pages.
And Spotify is also giving podcast comments a light refresh. Based on user feedback, the company is adding threaded replies and emoji reactions. Creators will still have full control over whether comments are allowed, either for the whole show or individual episodes, through Spotify for Creators.
These updates might feel minor, but I think they are clearly part of Spotify's bigger plan to stay competitive with Apple Podcasts and YouTube. YouTube, in particular, has been going all-in on podcasts lately – it even launched a weekly top podcast chart this month. And honestly, its push is working. YouTube hit 1 billion monthly active podcast users earlier this year, which is a massive number and shows just how dominant it's become in this space.
Still, I'm not totally convinced that following YouTube's playbook is the best move – at least not for every Spotify fan. If Spotify is your main podcast app, the new Following feed could be a nice upgrade. But if you are like me and don't want videos popping up all over your app, you might not be thrilled with where this is going. It was nice having a podcast space that wasn't overloaded with videos everywhere.

Amazon is selling the 256GB Google Pixel Tablet (sans dock) at its lowest ever price again

If you're looking for the best Android tablet money can buy in 2025, the Pixel Tablet is... probably not it. But if you think you can settle for a decent device with a large but not uncomfortable screen, respectable processing power, excellent sound, and above all, stellar software support, this might be the moment to pull the trigger. That's because Amazon is slashing a whopping 140 bucks off the Google-made slate in a 256GB storage configuration and a single Porcelain color option at the time of this writing. If the hefty new discount happens to feel familiar, you should know that retailers like Amazon and Best Buy, as well as Google itself, have offered it a couple of times before. Wi-Fi Only, 256GB Storage, 8GB RAM, Google Tensor G2 Processor, Android 13, 10.95-Inch IPS LCD Screen with 2560 x 1600 Pixel Resolution, 8MP Rear-Facing Camera, 8MP Front Camera, 7,020mAh Battery with 15W Charging Capabilities, Porcelain Color, No Speaker Dock Included Buy at Amazon But the last time was around two months ago, and at least to my knowledge, no Pixel Tablet variant has been marked down more steeply than this at any point since the product made its commercial debut back in the summer of 2023. That means that you're looking at a very hard-to-turn-down promotion that may never return, as sooner or later, Google will retire this device... and unfortunately probably not roll out a sequel. Initially released alongside a speaker dock that clearly not everyone appreciated, the Pixel Tablet is deeply discounted here all alone. Still, you should be satisfied by this thing's productivity and entertainment prowess, especially for that price. Can you do better in the sub-$400 segment? Our not-very-flattering in-depth Pixel Tablet review from a couple of years ago certainly seems to suggest so, especially if you look at all those amazing mid-rangers Lenovo often sells for around $300... or even less. But Lenovo has nothing on Google in terms of software updates, so if you plan to use your tablet for more than a couple of years, this may well be your best choice... if you hurry. And yes, in case you're wondering, the 128GB variant (with or without a bundled dock) is also discounted right now, just not as steeply, making the 256 gig model an undeniably better "investment."

iPhone 17 may miss out on this upgrade while the rest level up

Apple may be playing it safe with the base iPhone 17 this year. While the rest of the iPhone 17 lineup is shaping up to bring some big changes – if the rumors are to be believed – a new leak suggests the standard model could be keeping things pretty familiar. Apple analyst Jeff Pu now says that the base iPhone 17 model won't come with an upgraded processor. The information was shared in a research note with equity research firm GF Securities. Reportedly, the base iPhone 17 model may come with the same A18 chip that's currently in the base iPhone 16. The chip is said to be manufactured again with TSMC's second-gen 3nm process, according to the analyst. Meanwhile, that's not the case (reportedly) for the rest of the iPhone 17 series. The ultra-slim iPhone 17 Air, which is said to replace the 'Plus' model in the lineup, is said to come with an A19 chip, while the Pro iPhone 17 models are said to come with an A19 Pro chip. The analyst also says that the A19 processor series is also going to be manufactured by TSMC using a 3nm process, but there's a difference: reportedly, it would be a third-generation 3nm process. The A18 is nevertheless a very powerful processor. | Image Credit - PhoneArena Meanwhile, the analyst also claims that the base iPhone 17 may rock only 8GB of RAM, the exact same spec as the iPhone 16 . It's worth mentioning that the A18 chip is very strong and reliable, fast enough to destroy most of the competition anyway, so do keep that in month, reputable tipster Ming-Chi Kuo said that the iPhone 17 Air and the Pro models will come with 12GB of RAM now, most likely to match the growing demands of Apple Intelligence. Kuo also mentioned Apple hadn't decided on whether to equip the iPhone 17 with 12GB or leave it at 8. Well, if Pu's information is correct, Cupertino has decided: the iPhone 17 may come with 8GB of RAM. With all this in mind, it seems the iPhone 17 may be a minor update over the iPhone 16 . The design is said to be the same, apparently, the chip as well. However, a recent leak indicates the display may be what differentiates the two models: the iPhone 17 is expected to come with a bigger, 6.3-inch display with a fluid 120Hz refresh rate. Also, the front camera on the iPhone 17 may jump to 24MP from 12MP. The iPhone 17 series is expected to be unveiled in September.

Amazon brings the Pixel Buds Pro 2 back to their second-best price

Remember Walmart's exclusive sale on the Pixel Buds Pro 2? Well, it's over, but that doesn't mean you have to wait for another nice promo. In fact, one's already here: Amazon has slashed $40 off the premium wireless earbuds' asking price, bringing them down to their second-best price once again. $40 off (17%) The Google Pixel Buds Pro 2 are once again available at their second-best price. Right now, you can grab them for $40 off on Amazon across all colorways. While it's not branded as a limited-time sale, this bargain might not last long. Buy at Amazon If you recall, Amazon had the same deal back in April, and the buds were $50 off sometime before that. That $50 price cut, by the way, remains their best discount ever. And while today's $40 off might not seem like much — especially with a regular price of around $230 — it's still a pretty solid what's so good about these puppies to make them a compelling choice? Quite a lot — they feature excellent sound quality that doesn't rattle your head with low-end or pierce your ears with overwhelming highs. Beyond the excellent sound quality, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 are exceptionally comfortable to wear. They're super light and cause no ear fatigue whatsoever, even after hours of continuous use. Battery life is another standout here. These Google earbuds can make it an impressive eight hours per single charge with enabled ANC. In comparison, the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro offer up to six hours of playtime with ANC, so the Pixel buds are definitely a winner on that front. Read more about battery life and other features in our Pixel Buds Pro 2 about noise cancelling? Well, it works, but it's not the best in class. The earbuds filter out most low-end sounds, though higher-pitched sounds occasionally come through. So, if supreme ANC is your top priority, these buddies might not be the perfect choice. If you don't mind getting wireless earbuds that don't have the best ANC in the market, chances are you'll be pretty happy with the latest pro-grade Google buds. After all, they sound great, offer exceptional comfort, and don't skimp on battery life. And now that they're down to their second-best price on Amazon, they're an even more compelling choice.
