TikTok users are exposing their worst exes—all to the soundtrack of Lorde's new single

Fast Companya day ago

The latest TikTok trend has people exposing their terrible exes and most toxic relationship stories to Lorde's new single ' Man of the Year '—with receipts.
Since the song dropped at the end of last month, the trend has quickly gained traction on TikTok. Typically following a slideshow format, users post a selfie before revealing a series of text messages or, worse, a voice note from truly the worst villains.
While the trend fundamentally misinterprets the lyrics, which explore Lorde's gender identity, it has nonetheless opened Pandora's box online.
One viral post, with almost five million views, shows someone scrolling through their ex-partner's unopened Snapchat messages from other women (they just keep coming). 'At least I was pinned,' the TikToker joked in the caption. 'That looks exhausting. is he unemployed,' one commenter asked.
Another user posted an actual EDM track her ex created using a crying voicemail she had sent. 'He cheated, i broke up with him and then he proceeded to make a edm song to a crying voicemail,' she explained in the caption.
'I think you've found a unique experience,' one person commented. 'I'm so sorry this is the funniest thing i've ever seen,' another added.
Some users chose to opt out of the trend. 'Could BODY this trend but chose peace,' one TikTok user posted, hinting at some truly damning receipts.
Some videos shared as part of the trend are genuinely disturbing, detailing harrowing accounts of emotional and physical abuse. According to the United Nations, over a quarter (27%) of women worldwide, aged between 15 and 49, who have been in a relationship report having experienced some form of physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner.
Even Lorde, the unwitting originator of the trend, felt compelled to respond. Earlier this week, she posted a clip shaking her head as the song plays, her face expressing disbelief. The caption reads: 'These messages……'
In response to one comment—'girl yes, it's got me scared'—Lorde replied: 'I can't look away.' Another summed up the trend: 'guys you're stressing out lorde.'

Aaron Rodgers Omits Manifestation, Hits Right Notes in Steelers Debut

Aaron Rodgers Omits Manifestation, Hits Right Notes in Steelers Debut originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Two years ago during an interview that ran on ESPN just minutes before his debut with the New York Jets, Aaron Rodgers pontificated about his power of positive thinking. Advertisement "I believe in the power of manifestation, turning the desires of your heart into reality," he told interview and tennis legend John McEnroe. "First you've got to believe it. First we've got to believe we can go and make the run, and then once we start believing, and start playing the right way, then you see everyone else start believing. You won't be saying (bleep) like, 'What if it doesn't go right?' And then when everyone else in the city is believing, there's a never-ending, unstoppable wave of positivity and energy." Just four snaps into that game, Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles that ended his season and threw a wet blanket on his manifest destiny. Fast-forward to Tuesday at Pittsburgh Steelers' minicamp. There was Rodgers, digging deep again. Say what you want about the four-time MVP and future Hall of Famer, but there's no denying the dude takes himself very seriously. After making the Steelers twist in the wind for three months this offseason before signing a one-year contract last week to be their starter, the 41-year-old Rogers enlightened us all to a decision-making process in which football won out over retirement. Advertisement "I don't need it for my ego," he said. "I don't need it to keep playing. A lot of decisions that I've made over my career and life from strictly the ego, even if they turn out well, are always unfulfilling. But the decisions made from the soul are usually pretty fulfilling. This was a decision that was best for my soul." Other than getting a little sappy about his soul - at least he didn't invoke his manifestation, yet - Rodgers said all the right things about joining the Steelers. About his teammates. About his opportunity. About head coach Mike Tomlin. "There were conversations with other organizations, for sure," he said. "But again, the rapport that fell in between me and Mike made it to where, as I was going through my personal stuff, there wasn't any other option for me. It was here or not play. It starts with Mike Tomlin. I've been a fan of his for a long time. There's a few iconic franchises in the NFL. I played for one of 'em for 18 years. This is another one of those. There's something special about obviously this area. So many great quarterbacks are from Pittsburgh. I feel like Pittsburgh has been a part of my career from the beginning." Aaron Rodgers Makes Life-Changing Announcement on 'Mystery Woman' Marriage

Aaron Rodgers Makes Life-Changing Announcement on 'Mystery Woman' Marriage originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It's been rumored. It's been suggested. And in a way, it's been sort of obvious. And now we know. Advertisement Aaron Rodgers is starting his next chapter in the NFL as the QB of the Pittsburgh Steelers ... and as a married man. The legendary quarterback, now 41, has confirmed his relationship status as of Tuesday in his first comments since signing with the Steelers this weekend. Speculation accelerated when the Steelers official photo of him signing featured what looked like a black rubber wedding band on his ring finger. 'Yeah, it's a wedding ring,' Rodgers, confirmed at minicamp Day 1, adding, 'It's been a couple of months.' Rodgers - who has a history of tumultuous relationships - some of his exes have described their experiences with him as being "toxic'' and the like - did indeed reveal in December 2024 that he's in a relationship with a woman he ID'ed as "Brittani.'' Advertisement Rodgers was previously engaged to actress Shailene Woodley, and the four-time league MVP has also dated former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick and actress Olivia Munn. Rodgers said in the Netflix series "Aaron Rodgers: Enigma" that "I didn't do myself any favors with some of the girls I dated after that that were in the public eye.'' And now? He said on Tuesday that his lengthy delay in signing with the Steelers was about personal life issues. 'I was dealing with a lot of things in my personal life and some things improved a little bit where I felt like I could fully be all-in here with the guys,' said Rodgers. "I didn't want to short-change the guys and sign and be elsewhere, mentally or physically, so until I could be here, and be all-in, I needed to take care of my business.' Advertisement Rodgers - whose wife is being labeled by the New York Post as a "mystery woman'' - has frankly embraced his "enigmatic'' reputation; he had a hand in the Netflix doc that went by that name. But now? He ended this particular drama this past weekend by signing a deal worth $13.65 million ... a bargain almost by any measure. The Steelers open the season on the road against the New York Jets - his last employer - on Sept. 7. And we assume his bride will be present for all of the festivities. Rodgers Welcomes Steelers to California

Rodgers Welcomes Steelers to California originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers will soon learn that having quarterback Aaron Rodgers under center has its perks. For all the headaches in the forecast, keeping the spotlight on the quarterback has a way of giving others a little more breathing room. Surely, the upgrade in performance (and production) has its benefits, too. Advertisement The Steelers are better with Rodgers under center, adding more credibility to the passing offense and creating a sliver of hope for the team's playoff odds. Pittsburgh got its first taste of Rodgers on Tuesday, when he spoke to the media at the team's minicamp proceedings. Asked about making up for lost time, the quarterback plans to get some reps in between minicamp and the last week of July, when training camp will commence. Rodgers invited his Steelers teammates to Malibu for offseason workouts and is justifiably confident in their attendance. 'I've just got to get them — I got to try and convince them to come out to Malibu, California,' Rodgers told reporters. 'It's gonna be a tough sell, I think. Tough sell.' Advertisement It's no surprise that Rodgers came off as cool and charismatic on Tuesday. It certainly isn't an accident. But it's also worth noting how significant the opportunity to play with Rodgers could be to Pittsburgh. For fans and analysts, it's easy to write off Rodgers as a post-prime passer with more controversies than championships. The Steelers' Super Bowl chances didn't get much higher after the signing. But his experience and pedigree matter, especially to his teammates. Expect a host of Pittsburgh's pass-catchers to travel to Malibu and practice with their new quarterback. 'I just want to have fun here. I want to enjoy the game. The game has given me a ton. It's hard to think of anything in my life that's positive that wasn't impacted by, directly or indirectly, my playing this game. 'I just want to give back to the game, enjoy it, pass on my knowledge to my teammates, and try to find ways to help lead the team.'
