Already behind bars, Kelantan man gets 18 more months for smashing police station door
The accused, Nik Mohadi Ahmad, 39, pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid.
According to the charge, he was accused of breaking the front glass sliding door at the Ketereh police station complaint counter, causing an estimated loss of RM200.
The incident occurred at 1.02pm on May 16.
The charge was framed under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of one to five years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Naabil Mohamed Asri urged the court to impose a proportionate sentence as a lesson to the accused, citing public interest, since the damage involved government property.
The court then sentenced Nik Mohadi, who was unrepresented, to 18 months imprisonment, to run consecutively after he completes his current sentence under the same section, which began on July 7, and is set to end on April 22 next year.
He is currently serving a jail sentence for committing mischief by damaging property at his uncle's house. — Bernama

Cops seize RM200,000 unregistered cosmetic products in KL raids

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Various cosmetic products and food supplements without approval from the health ministry, stored for sale on social media platforms, were seized by police in raids on two premises in Segambut on July 16. Bukit Aman internal security and public order department director Azmi Abu Kassim said a man and two foreign women, aged between 28 and 30, were arrested in the raid on the first premises. Police seized 1,972 boxes and 2,551 bottles of various types of cosmetic products and food supplements that did not have ministry approval. 'The 40-year-old man, who is also the owner of the premises, led police to another residence where they found 180 boxes and 895 bottles of cosmetic products and food supplements without ministry approval,' Bernama reported him as saying today. The total value of the seizures was estimated at RM185,515. Azmi said the operation involved enforcement officers from the ministry and Kuala Lumpur City Hall. He also said police carried out 167 raids and arrested 300 people for various offences between January and July 16. The offences included smuggling undeclared goods, leakage of controlled and subsidised goods, sale of imitation weapons, wildlife smuggling, and e-waste operations. 'The total value of the seizures is estimated at RM541,033,501,' he said.

Elderly hiker dies after collapsing at Penang's Botanic Gardens

(JBPM pic) PETALING JAYA : A 60-year-old man died this morning while hiking on the Moongate Trail at the Botanic Gardens, Penang. A spokesman from the state's fire and rescue department said they received a distress call at 9.56am about a hiker, identified as Lim Kee Wan, who collapsed while hiking. Personnel from Bagan Jermal station were dispatched and reached the scene at 10.11am. 'The team attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation but this proved unsuccessful. The victim was pronounced dead by medical personnel at the scene. 'The body was then brought down the hill and handed over to the police for further action,' the spokesman said in a statement today.
