Massive fire rages at Iranian waste facility

Shaafq News/ A large fire broke out on Saturday at a cardboard waste collection and compression facility in Nazarabad, west of Karaj, Iranian media reported.
The blaze, fueled by strong winds, spread rapidly and engulfed 12 industrial units in the area. According to local authorities, at least 10 firefighting teams are currently battling the flames.
Initial reports ruled out any connection between the fire and a nearby power station, contradicting earlier speculation on social media that an explosion may have triggered the incident.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and no casualties have been reported so far.
On April 26, a massive explosion struck Iran's Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas, killing at least 40 people and injuring over 1,000 others.

Iran dismantles ISIS-linked operatives in Tehran
Shafaq News/ On Wednesday, Iran arrested members of an ISIS-affiliated network in the capital, Tehran, according to the General Command of the Internal Security Forces Saeed Montazer-ol-Mahdi. Ol-Mahdi noted that the arrests were made following 'extensive and complex operations' in recent days by the counterterrorism unit across Tehran and the provinces of Isfahan, Qom, and Alborz, adding that the network was preparing to carry out sabotage and bombing attacks during recent public ceremonies. 'All members of the terrorist network were arrested during the operation, including 13 individuals—among them the ringleader, support teams, and suicide bombers. Explosive devices, including suicide vests, were also seized.' The command added that further details about the dismantled network would be disclosed in the coming days. Iran has also reported multiple foiled plots involving sabotage and suicide bombings. In January 2024, ISIS-K, the Afghan affiliate of the Islamic State, claimed responsibility for two bombings in Kerman that killed at least 95 people during a memorial for Qassem Soleimani. The attack was one of the deadliest in Iran in recent years. Earlier, in June 2017, a coordinated assault on the Iranian parliament and the Khomeini mausoleum left 17 people dead and marked the first major ISIS-claimed operation inside the country.

Khamenei slams US nuclear proposal: You cannot stop us
Shafaq News/ Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday rejected the recent US proposal on the nuclear file as 'completely contrary' to Iran's capabilities. Speaking at a ceremony marking the 36th anniversary of the death of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini—the leader of the 1979 Islamic Revolution that overthrew Iran's monarchy—Khamenei said the US proposal, delivered via Omani mediation, aimed to dismantle Iran's nuclear capacity and undermine its self-reliance, reaffirming that Tehran will not abandon uranium enrichment under any circumstances. 'Our response to this American nonsense is clear: Who are you to tell us whether we should have a nuclear program? You cannot stop us.' Khamenei further emphasized that uranium enrichment is at the center of Iran's nuclear strategy, describing it as the 'key to the nuclear issue' and essential for scientific progress. 'The nuclear industry is not just about energy. It's the mother of all industries… Without enrichment, the program is meaningless,' he clarified, adding that his country has completed the full nuclear fuel cycle and would continue to build on that foundation. Despite five rounds of indirect negotiations between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US envoy Steve Witkoff, mediated by Oman, the two sides remain far apart—particularly over Iran's refusal to halt enrichment or export its stockpile of highly enriched uranium. Tehran insists its program is peaceful and has long rejected Western accusations of seeking nuclear weapons as unfounded and politically driven. On Tuesday, Araghchi reiterated during a visit to Lebanon that uranium enrichment is 'a non-negotiable national red line.' He had also emphasized in Cairo that Iran's nuclear activities are fully transparent and aligned with peaceful objectives. Khamenei, in turn, had voiced skepticism about the talks with Washington, stating that they are unlikely to produce positive results. He also criticized what he called excessive American demands, particularly the insistence on halting uranium enrichment, which he labeled unacceptable.

Sayyid Khamenei: Tehran Will Not Abandon Uranium Enrichment
Baghdad – INA The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Sayyid Ali Khamenei, affirmed on Wednesday that Tehran will not abandon uranium enrichment. In a speech marking the anniversary of the passing of the founder of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, Sayyid Ruhollah Khomeini, monitored by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Khamenei said: "The project proposed by the Americans completely contradicts the principle of 'We Can,' through which Imam Khomeini restored the Iranian people's self-confidence." He added, "The nuclear project is used to produce clean energy, and I hope specialists will explain its uses to the public." He continued, "Resistance means standing up to the will of the superpowers," noting that "nuclear technology will not be achieved without enrichment to produce reactor fuel, and we will not extend our hands to others." He explained: "Even if we had 100 nuclear reactors, they would be useless without our own production of nuclear fuel. Our insistence on obtaining 20% enriched uranium from abroad led us to produce it domestically." He added, "Thousands of nuclear experts and scientists are being targeted by the Americans, who want them unemployed," adding that "American leaders are proposing to disrupt projects in all fields and oppose Iran's development." He explained that "the U.S. administration is making many claims about dismantling the Iranian nuclear project." He pointed out that "the United States is an accomplice in the crimes committed in the Gaza Strip. What is happening in the Strip is a real crime, and security in the region cannot be achieved by relying on the Zionist entity," adding that "the Zionist entity is doomed, and its end will not take long.
