MP warns officials over delay in single site approvals

Time of India5 days ago

Udupi: Complaints about issues with the single site plan approvals from the Udupi Urban Development Authority (UUDA) are increasingly being reported by the general public, causing difficulties in constructing homes and buildings.
After receiving several complaints from people, Udupi-Chikmagalur MP Kota Shrinivas Poojary directed officials of the authority to resolve the issue within 15 days.
He spoke while presiding over a meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner's Office in Manipal on Saturday, to discuss the problems related to the single site and Form 9/11. After the distribution of 9/11 was reassigned from gram panchayats to the authority, there were unnecessary delays, causing applicants to become frustrated.
Despite govt directives to approve single site plans leaving six metres from the road edge, thousands of files remained pending due to the authority's negligence.
Officials must resolve all files within 15 days, the MP said.
If local urban bodies propose that road expansions are not possible as per the directive, the govt order to permit only 3.5m must be followed. The interference of middlemen in the authority should be immediately stopped, and the troubles faced by the general public should be alleviated, he suggested.

Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna said that over 11,000 applications for single site approvals are pending with the urban development authority in the district, and immediate action should be taken for their urgent clearance. Kundapur MLA Kiran Kumar Kodgi said that applicants from distant areas like Kundapur and Byndoor are facing difficulties visiting the authority daily. Officials should promptly respond, understanding the common people's issues, he said.
Kaup MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty stated that the single site approval issue is tarnishing the reputation of the district administration and public representatives. Immediate corrective measures should be taken, he advised. Abid Gadyal, additional deputy commissioner, directed officials not to cause inconvenience to applicants visiting offices from faraway places.
He also directed officials to approve applications with gram panchayat recommendations without delay.
Udupi City Municipal Council president Prabhakara Poojary, commissioner Mahesh J, UUDA chairman Dinakar Heroor, and others were present.

Govt committed to win people's heart in Kotia: Pujari

1 2 Bhubaneswar: Revenue and disaster management minister Suresh Pujari on Friday asserted the govt is committed to winning the hearts of the people in the disputed Kotia region, for which Odisha and Andhra Pradesh have been in a legal tussle over jurisdiction for over six decades. Pujari, who leads a newly formed 16-member committee dedicated to the development of Kotia, chaired the panel's inaugural meeting. "A comprehensive road map for the region's all-round development will be prepared within a month. The govt aims to ensure that the people of Kotia have access to quality education, healthcare and market linkages for local farmers and traders," he said. "Some of the decisions taken by the committee can't be made public at this stage. However, people would see its outcome in the days to come," Pujari stated, emphasising that Kotia is an inseparable part of Odisha. He assured that the govt is committed to doing everything necessary to win the people's hearts. The meeting also reviewed steps taken by the previous BJD govt and called for an action taken report on recommendations from a House committee that previously visited Kotia. The minister highlighted the need to review the legal position and pending cases to bring the dispute to a logical conclusion. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like People Born 1940-1975 With No Life Insurance Could Be Eligible For This Reassured Get Quote Undo The committee, formed on May 23, marks a significant step towards addressing the long-standing border dispute. Pujari emphasised the focus on developing the neglected region while promoting 'Odia Asmita' and resolving the dispute. He acknowledged the complexity of the issue but expressed confidence in finding a lasting solution. The Kotia dispute, dating back to the 1960s, involves 21 of 28 villages with a population of around 5,000. Odisha filed a petition in Supreme Court in 2021 against Andhra Pradesh for violating a 1968 status quo order. The SC previously ruled in 2006 that only Parliament could determine states' territorial jurisdictions. The Pujari-led committee has been tasked with recommending steps for Kotia's development and the structure of an integrated development agency for the area. DKS' behaviour was dadagiri: Joshi

Mysuru: Demanding the resignation of the chief minister and deputy chief minister in connection with the Bengaluru stampede that claimed 11 lives, Union minister Pralhad Joshi censured DCM DK Shivakumar for his alleged behaviour, describing it as a kind of dadagiri on the day of the incident. Shivakumar acted like a bully all day, and he shouldn't continue in his position for even a moment. Both CM Siddaramaiah and DCM DK Shivakumar should resign immediately, the minister told reporters in Mysuru. Pointing out the suspension of Bengaluru city police commissioner B Dayanand for allegedly denying security in writing, Pralhad Joshi asked if Shivakumar didn't call all fans to the celebration on his X account. Shivakumar went to the airport holding a flag to receive the team. "If there is command in the high command of Congress, let them first act against Shivakumar. The leader in opposition Rahul Gandhi goes around the world and talks about everything. Doesn't he know about this incident?" Joshi questioned. The Union minister claimed that even after three people died near Chinnaswamy stadium, the CM, deputy CM, their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and IAS officers were busy taking selfies near Vidhana Soudha before the RCB team set out to the stadium. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo "Isn't this an unforgivable crime?" he asked. The govt's decision to inquire into the incident by a promoted IAS officer was done in haste. Only after the high court took suo motu cognizance of the stampede were senior police officers placed under suspension to cover up the lapses, he claimed. Bengaluru police commissioner B Dayananda is an efficient officer. The state govt has given the reason that they haven't denied permission in the letter, but the CM himself tweeted about the celebration in front of Vidhana Soudha, and as a result, fans gathered in large numbers because of an open call, he said. "If Dayanand didn't give permission for the event, then why did the deputy CM go to the event? What moral responsibility will the CM take for the call made? Didn't Shivakumar feel ashamed to kiss the IPL trophy even after fans died?" he asked. Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Eid wishes , messages , and quotes !

Himanta visits Hailakandi, Sribhumi relief camps, vows timely infra repair

1 2 3 4 5 6 Silchar: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday visited the flood-ravaged districts of Hailakandi and Sribhumi in the Barak Valley. He assured affected residents of providing timely disbursement of rehabilitation grants and swift repair of damaged infrastructure. This marks Sarma's second visit to the flood-hit region within four days, underscoring the gravity of the situation. Speaking to the media in Sribhumi after inspecting multiple relief camps, the CM said, "Flood-related problems may persist till July. I will return before Durga Puja to ensure that roads and infrastructure are restored." Sarma said district commissioners have been directed to carry out thorough damage assessments. "Once the water recedes, financial assistance will be provided as per norms. We did so last year and will do the same this year," he added. During his visit, the CM toured relief camps in Kalinagar and Panchgram in Hailakandi and later in Sribhumi, interacting with displaced residents. While camp conditions were reported to be satisfactory, affected families voiced concerns over the loss of household items like utensils and clothing. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Sarma urged all affected individuals to submit their bank details to facilitate direct transfer of relief funds. Highlighting the broader issue, Sarma acknowledged that unplanned urban development, particularly without adequate drainage systems, has contributed to recurring artificial flooding in key Assam cities. "This is especially severe in Guwahati, but Dibrugarh and Silchar are also facing similar issues. We need sustainable drainage solutions that can cope with rapid urban growth," he said. So far, 21 people have died in floods and landslides across Assam this year, with over 5.6 lakh affected across 16 districts. Relief and rehabilitation efforts are underway as authorities monitor the evolving situation. In a political swipe, Sarma also targeted Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi, claiming three out of four members of Gogoi's family are foreign nationals — a remark seen as escalating tensions between the ruling BJP and opposition Congress.
