'All four accused who are charged for the disappearance of the victims appeared before the KwaMhlanga Magistrates' Court (on Monday). Two of them abandoned bail and two will proceed with their application,' she said.
'The matter was postponed to 29 May 2025. Two counts of murder were added to the accused.'
Last week, IOL reported that police have found the remains of two people who are believed to be the couple which vanished mysteriously in February.
National commissioner of the SA Police Service (SAPS), General Fannie Masemola, told journalists that the remains of the two people will now undergo rigorous tests to determine their identity. The results of the DNA tests are yet to be announced.
"The process with the human remains we have found, they would be taken to the pathologists and we will take DNA, process it with the closest relatives - it might be one or two relatives to determine the identity of those remains.
"Then we can confirm that it is indeed them or not," Masemola, who was with Police Minister Senzo Mchunu addressed journalists in Bloemfontein at the funeral of 20-year-old Constable Boipelo Senoge who lost her life last month, alongside two colleagues, following a horrific crash at the Hennops River in Tshwane. Earlier this month, IOL reported that the African Media and Communicators Forum (AMCF) and the National Press Club (NPC) have increased the reward for information about the missing couple from R50,000 to R100,000, while appealing to authorities to act.
The arrested suspects initially faced charges including kidnapping the couple and hijacking their white Volkswagen Polo, regularly driven by Ndlovu.

Will Joslin Smith state witness get indemnity or face JAIL?

The state witness in the Joslin Smith trafficking trial, Laurentia Lombaard, is awaiting her fate of indemnity or a prison sentence in a special hearing under the Western Cape High Court. The woman – a former accused who turned State 204 witness – has previously stated under oath that the missing girl's mother, Kelly Smith, allegedly sold her daughter to a sangoma for R20 000. Last week, Kelly, her boyfriend Jacquin 'Boeta' Appollis, and pal Steveno van Rhyn were sentenced to life in prison for trafficking and kidnapping. The trio has 14 days to apply for leave to appeal the sentence. Joslin went missing from her home in Saldanha Bay on 19 February 2024. She has not been found. Speaking to the SABC, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) prosecutor Zelda Swanepoel revealed Western Cape High Court Judge Nathan Erasmus would hear evidence and arguments from both the prosecution and the defense pertaining to state witness, Laurentia Lombaard. He would impose her sentence in a separate hearing. Swanepoel said: 'We will be called upon to argue and indicate why we say she should or should not be granted indemnity. 'Our argument is that she should be granted indemnity.' State witness Lourentia Lombaard testified that Kelly Smith sold her daughter Joslin to a sangoma. Will she be granted indemnity for her testimony? Images via YouTube screenshot: SABC News. Laurentia Lombaard – a State 204 witness – previously stated under oath that Joslin Smith's mother, Kelly Smith, allegedly sold her to a sangoma for R20 000. Lombaard also claimed in her testimony that Kelly had offered her R1 000 in 'hush money'. She added that she had not received the money, even after confronting Kelly about it. Late last year, charges were withdrawn against Lombaard, who was granted provisional indemnity from criminal prosecution. However, her credibility was questioned when she admitted to lying to police in a recorded statement after Joslin Smith's disappearance. Her version of events from her March 2024 statement differs from her confession to police in October, when she agreed to turn state witness. In court, she admitted to being under the influence of drugs when making the initial statement. According to the Criminal Procedure Act, a Section 204 witness can receive indemnity from criminal charges, provided that their testimony and evidence help incriminate the accused. In the case of Joslin Smith, the NPA offered Lombaard witness protection in exchange for her testimony against Kelly Smith, Boeta Appollis, and Steveno van Rhyn, who have since been convicted and sentenced. If the court does find that Lombaard did not testify truthfully, she could face prosecution for perjury and related charges. Oscar Pistorius 'not guilty' claims: Reeva's reps respond

Reeva Steenkamp's family legal representative has responded to Oscar Pistorius's claims that he had 'no intent' to murder the model. Last week, Henke Pistorius claimed that his son was 'not guilty' of killing his girlfriend. He believes the former Paralympian was, however, responsible for manslaughter and has since accused the state of being 'incompetent' and 'liars'. Reeva was shot and killed after being mistaken for a home intruder at Oscar's Pretoria mansion. He has since served half of his 13 years and five months behind bars, and is now on parole. Last week, OscarPistorius's dad, Henke, appeared on the Piers Morgan Uncensored show, where he made bold claims about his son's murder trial. In it, he accused the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) of being 'incompetent and dishonest'. He also accused state prosecutor Gerrie Nel of 'misleading and lying to the court' Henke repeatedly claimed that Oscar had 'no intent to kill' Reeva Steenkamp. He referred to evidence of his son using just four bullets to murder Reeva Steenkamp through a toilet door. Henke also claimed that Oscar did not know that his girlfriend was in the bathroom. Oscar Pistorius – who shot and killed Reeva on 14 February 2013 – was convicted of culpable homicide in October 2014. This was later upgraded to murder in December 2015. At the time, he was handed a six-year prison sentence. However, in November 2017, following an unsuccessful appeal, the Supreme Court of Appeal increased his jail term to 13 years and five months. In a statement to The South African, Tana Koen, the legal representative for Reeva Steenkamp's family, expressed her shock at Henke's claims. 'It is on record that the learned judges of the Supreme Court of Appeal found that in firing the fatal shots, the accused must have foreseen, and therefore foresaw that whoever was behind the toilet door might die. 'The judgement further stated that the contradictions were so serious that one really does not know that his explanations are for having fired the fatal shots. No similar statements were made about the state's conduct. During his interview with Piers Morgan, Henke Pistorius also challenged the former NPA prosecutor to debate him on Oscar's murder trial. Henke demanded the 'same rules as court' in his face-off with Gerrie. He said: 'I ask the questions, he can just say 'yes or no'. Let's see if he will accept that, please'. Gerrie – who now works for AfriForum's private prosecuting unit – has yet to respond. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1 .

Urgent appeal: Grandmother seeks help to bury granddaughter after tragic food poisoning

Sukoluhle James' family seeks funds to bury her after she died of food poisoning. Image: Supplied A heartbroken grandmother is pleading for financial assistance to bury her one-year-old granddaughter, who tragically died from suspected food poisoning after eating a packet of noodles. Sukoluhle James died in the early hours of Tuesday, May 27, after falling ill during the night. Her grandmother, Nomzamo Dlambula, described the devastating events leading up to the toddler's death. 'It was around 1am when she passed on Tuesday,' Dlambula said. 'She ate the noodles for supper, and that was the last thing she ate, and then around 11pm, I was woken up by her; she was crying. 'When I asked her mother why she was crying, she said she didn't know, and they came to my room.' Video Player is loading. The post-mortem report said that it was food poisoning that killed her.' According to Dlambula, her daughter had attended a birthday party earlier in the day and brought the noodles home from a friend's cupboard. 'She got home and then made supper for her daughter. The friend said she bought the noodles from a shop in Wynberg. She said she also fed her children the same noodles, but nothing happened to them. 'I think maybe this was a factory fault, and we can't focus on tracking down the company because we are struggling to put funds together to bury Sukoluhle, and we are not sure where to go.'
