Bhatti moots study to utilise Godavari River for inland navigation in land-locked Telangana

The Hindu17-05-2025

A study will be initiated on utilising the Godavari River for inland navigation in land-locked Telangana as it lacks a sea port, said Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.
'If feasible, the issue will be taken up with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for necessary action,' Mr. Vikramarka said at a meeting held in the Integrated District Offices Complex in Kothagudem, Bhadradri Kothagudem district, on Saturday.
The meeting was held in connection with laying of foundation stones for three 33/11 kV substations at an estimated cost of ₹7.72 crore and a high-level bridge in Somulagudem with an outlay of ₹4 crore in Paloncha mandal. He also inaugurated a high-level bridge across the Kinnerasani river built at a cost of ₹9.70 crore in Yanambile in virtual mode.
Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, Khammam MP R. Raghuram Reddy, and Kothagudem MLA K. Sambasiva Rao were present.
The Deputy CM outlined the State government's futuristic policies for holistic growth across vital sectors such as IT, pharma, power, health, housing and welfare schemes besides integrated regional development.
He also announced construction of Regional Ring Road (RRR) linking multiple districts with clusters for pharma, agriculture, and housing planned between Outer Ring Road and RRR.
Central funds
He said, 'A special monitoring system has been set up in New Delhi to track Central funds and development programmes. MPs from Telangana will hold discussions with Central ministers, followed by visits of Telangana ministers to secure necessary support.'
Assuring that Telangana is progressing at a fast pace, he said, 'No other State in the country has the capacity to match the pace of Telangana's development. The previous rulers who misused public funds for 10 years are now making baseless comments unable to digest Telangana's growth.'
He maintained that while the previous administration couldn't manage a 15,000 MW demand in 2023-24, the current government handled a peak demand of 17,162 MW in March this year without any disruption. Plans are afoot to harness solar, hydel, and wind power, aiming to generate 20,000 MW of green energy.
Mr. Vikramarka said that the Indira Solar Giri Water Development Scheme is slated to be launched in Achampet of Nagarkurnool district on Monday. It aims to protect forests and empower tribal farmers across the State. An amount of ₹12,500 crore will be spent on the scheme without imposing any cost on tribal communities.

We are prioritising green power sector, Telangana aims for 20,000 MW by 2030: Bhatti

HYDERABAD: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday said that Telangana is moving forward with strategic planning for prioritising the green power sector. Speaking to reporters after visiting the Greenko Integrated Power Project at Pinnapuram village in Orvakal mandal of Kurnool district in the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, he highlighted Telangana's vision for renewable energy. 'MoUs worth `1 lakh crore have already been signed for green power generation in Telangana,' he said and added that the Telangana government has introduced the New Energy Policy, which is aimed at achieving 20,000 MW of green power by 2029–30. The deputy CM further explained that with the increasing power demand across the country, the Telangana government is exploring various avenues to enhance power generation and move towards surplus electricity. 'Every product in the world requires electricity. To increase production, electricity supply must be abundant. If production increases, employment and the state's GDP will grow. It's a continuous cycle,' he said. Vikramarka pointed out that electricity consumption is rising across India, and if power is generated solely through coal, it would increase costs and pollution, impacting the environment. Hence, the world is rapidly shifting towards green power, he emphasised. He said that countries around the world are encouraging electricity generation through diverse methods like solar, wind, thermal, pumped storage, floating solar and hydrogen power. He also explained how solar power generated during the day is stored and later used during peak hours at night via pumped storage systems. The deputy CM praised Greenko Power for starting electricity production on schedule and noted that the company is producing electricity from solar, wind, and pumped storage at a single location spread across 4,000 acres — the first of its kind in the world.

Telangana targets 20,000 MW green power by 2030: Bhatti

Hyderabad: Deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Saturday said the state is charting an ambitious course towards a green energy future, with a goal of generating 20,000 MW of renewable power by 2030. The govt has already signed MoUs worth ₹1 lakh crore with various companies to support green power initiatives. Speaking to the media after visiting Greenko's integrated renewable energy project in Pinnapuram village of Orvakal mandal in Kurnool district, the deputy CM said the Telangana govt recently introduced the new Energy Policy 2025 to achieve the 20,000 MW target by 2029–30. "With rising power demand across India, Telangana is proactively working to boost power generation and achieve a surplus. Electricity is the backbone of every product and sector. When production increases, it creates jobs and drives GDP growth—it's a continuous cycle," he said. Vikramarka stressed the growing need for sustainable alternatives, pointing out that dependence on coal not only increases production costs but also worsens pollution. "The world is transitioning rapidly to green energy. Telangana is aligning with this global shift," he added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo He highlighted the innovative use of pumped hydro storage to address peak hour demands. Solar energy produced during the day is stored and then used at night, making the energy cycle efficient and reliable. At the invitation of Greenko's management, the deputy CM visited their project site, which integrates solar, wind, and a 1,680 MW pumped hydro storage system—with a storage cycle of four hours, twice daily. The project also exports power internationally. Principal secretary (energy) Sandeep Kumar Sultania, CMDs of Transco and Genco, Krishna Bhaskar and S Harish, and other senior officials and engineers were present during the visit.

Funds will be released to expedite PRLIS: Telanagan Dy CM Bhatti

HYDERABAD: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday alleged that the BRS leaders, when they were in power, looted the state like bandits. Referring to BRS MLC K Kavitha's recent remarks against her own party leaders, he said: 'Even their own family members are now exposing the BRS leaders.' The deputy CM was addressing a public meeting after laying the foundation for 12 sub-stations at Devarakadra. He emphasised that real democracy is being upheld now with funds being spent on public welfare under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. Efforts are being made to transform Telangana into a globally competitive state, he added. After laying the stone for 12 sub-stations, he said that the government will fast-track the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme works by releasing required funds. He also announced that funds for R&R and land acquisition would be released immediately. 'The gap between the Narlapur and Edula reservoirs will be filled with necessary funding,' he said and recalled that when `70 crore was needed for the Uddandapur R&R package, the government released them without any hesitation. Referring to Krishna river water, he said the people of Palamuru region dreamed of utilising these waters, which is why they demanded a separate state. 'But during their 10-year rule, the previous rulers couldn't provide irrigation even to a single acre,' he said. The deputy CM also said that all major irrigation projects in the erstwhile Mahbubnagar district — Jurala, Koilsagar, Bheema, Nettempadu, and Kalwakurthy — were completed by the Congress governments. 'If the previous Congress government had given permission for the Palamuru-Rangareddy project, then in June 2015, KCR laid the foundation at Karivena and promised to complete it in three years. It's been 10 years... why couldn't he provide water?' he asked. Vikramarka hailed the free RTC bus travel scheme for women across the state and wondered why the 'financially sound' BRS government failed to implement it earlier. He said the current people's government aims to turn one crore women into crorepatis within five years. 'As part of this, within the first year of our rule, `21,000 crore interest-free loans have been given to self-help groups.' he said. 'You don't need to be an MLA to do business or get contracts,' he said and added, 'You need to elect MLAs who will raise the people's voice in the Assembly and protect democratic values. I congratulate the people of Mahbubnagar for electing such representatives.'
