Experienced PR executive and spouse of former public protector Thuli Madonsela, Richard Edward Foxton, affectionately known as Dick or "Mr Foxton", has died at the age of 82.
He passed away peacefully in his bed, the Thuli Madonsela Foundation announced in a statement.
Foxton was a father, grandfather and founder of the South African communications firm Foxton Communicating. He was also a founding patron of the Thuli Madonsela Foundation.
Beyond his professional success, the foundation remembered him as a devoted family man who was a deeply religious Christian.
"He was a proud father and a loving grandfather to nine grandchildren, all of whom were a central part of his life.
"His life partner, Madonsela, was his steadfast companion in personal and professional matters, and together they were a symbol of mutual respect, love and integrity.
"Foxton's impact on South Africa's business and political landscape, his commitment to social change and his deep love for his family and faith will not be forgotten. His warmth, kindness, huge personality and boundless generosity touched the lives of many, and his contributions will continue to resonate for years to come.
"His passing leaves an irreplaceable void, but his influence will live on in the lives he touched and the work he pioneered."
A memorial service will be held at the Rosebank Catholic Church on Friday at 2pm, followed by a celebration of his life at the Bryanston Country Club.

Boerewors with tomato shebo and avocado

This recipe is a classic South African dish. Shebo, is a South African term used to describe a tomato relish usually served with meat grilled on an open flame fire. The spicy shebo can be made up to a day ahead and kept in the fridge until ready to use. Heat through before serving. ALSO READ: Recipe of the day: Lemony avocado pea pasta Ingredients 800g thin boerewors 4 wooden skewers, soaked in cold water 2 ripe avocados, peeled, stoned and diced, to serve 1 chilli, sliced, to serve (optional) For the spicy shebo: 30 ml (2 tbsp) oil 1 onion, chopped 2 cloves garlic, grated 1 chilli, diced 1 x 410g canned chopped tomatoes 30ml (2 tbsp) sweet chilli sauce 30ml (2 tbsp) fruit chutney Salt and pepper, to taste Method Divide the boerewors into 4 and roll each piece into a coil, then secure with a skewer. Wrap the skewers in aluminum foil to prevent them from burning. Cook the boerewors over coals or under the grill until cooked to your liking, about 10 minutes per side. Meanwhile, make the spicy shebo, heat the oil in a frying pan and add the onion, garlic and chilli, sauté over medium heat until the onions are soft, about 4 – 5 minutes. Add the rest of the ingredients and cook gently until slightly thickened, for about 10 more minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sauce from catching on the bottom. Season before serving. To serve, spread the sauce on a platter and arrange the boerewors on top then scatter over the avocado and extra chilli. Serve immediately. Supplied by

Pride of 10 lions outside Kruger National Park fence a 'hoax'?

A pride of 10 lions were reportedly spotted outside the fence of the Kruger National Park, moving in the direction of Lulekani, prompting urgent warnings from local authorities. Lulekani is a township 13km outside Phalaborwa in the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality in the Limpopo province. However, South African National Parks (SANParks) has confirmed that they are not aware of any lions on the loose nor any sightings of the pride. Initial reports suggested the lions were moving in a coordinated group – possibly in search of food or water. Regardless, authorities urged residents of Lulekani and surrounding communities to exercise extreme caution and avoid all unnecessary movement outdoors, especially after dark. Avoid walking alone or letting children play outside Keep pets and livestock securely enclosed Remain indoors after sunset when possible Report any lion sightings immediately SANParks Raptor Station (Phalaborwa): 011 738 2957 011 738 2957 Local SANParks (Lulekani Office): 015 483 0364 015 483 0364 Manipulate Wildlife Response Team: 015 437 5384 'Community cooperation is vital,' said a SANParks spokesperson.
