Expedite ‘Adavi Thalli Bata' works to provide road connectivity to remote tribal habitations in Andhra Pradesh, Pawan Kalyan tells officials
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Environment, Forest, and Science & Technology K. Pawan Kalyan has instructed officials to speed up the laying of new roads connecting 625 tribal villages under the 'Adavi Thalli Bata' programme, and has emphasised the need for regular monitoring and reporting of the progress of the works. Speaking to the officials through a teleconference on Sunday, Mr. Pawan Kalyan said road construction was taken up in the tribal areas along with the Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN), with the funds provided under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) and sub-plan allocations amounting to approximately ₹1,005 crore. Since the works under the 'Adavi Thalli Bata'programme were designed to connect the remote tribal habitations, priority should be accorded to their expeditious completion, he siad. The officials told Mr. Pawan Kalyan that laying roads to the hill-top habitations required breaking of rocks, and, therefore, the works would take considerable time. Besides, a lot of precautions should be taken in view of the steep terrains to be covered. Out of 128 roads located in the reserve forest areas, forest clearances were given for 98. 'As on date, 186 works are in progress and 20 more are in the tenders stage,' they said. Mr. Pawan Kalyan said the government was striving to achieve the goal of providing connectivity to all the tribal habitations, and that the Central government had sanctioned ₹556 crore under the PM JANMAN. Besides, funds available under the MGNREGS were being utilised. The administrative machinery must focus on expediting the works as funds were being mobilised from time to time, the Deputy Chief Minister asserted, adding that the required forest clearances would be given sooner than later after due deliberations.

BJP leader warns against any move to dilute Article 371F in Sikkim
Gangtok, Aug 9 Former Minister and Chief Advisor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sikkim unit, Tseten Tashi Bhutia, has issued a strong statement warning that Sikkim without Article 371F would be 'a big zero.' He stressed that the special constitutional provision is not a privilege, but the very foundation of Sikkim's merger with India in 1975. Article 371F, included in the Indian Constitution at the time of Sikkim's statehood, protects the ownership rights of Sikkimese people through the Revenue Order of 1917, safeguards the Sikkim Subject Certificates and their descendants, ensures reserved seats in the Legislative Assembly, and preserves pre-merger laws and customs. Bhutia expressed deep concern that in recent years there have been attempts to weaken these protections through legislation, administrative decisions, or court rulings. He said that instead of celebrating Sikkim's 50 years of statehood in 2025 with pride, many people now live with fear and insecurity. He pointed to demographic changes since 1975, claiming that migration from neighbouring countries has shifted political priorities and led to non-locals controlling much of Sikkim's economy. He also warned that permanent settlement of outsiders in sensitive border areas could threaten national security. According to him, some local politicians have encouraged this trend for vote-bank politics, offering freebies and ignoring long-term risks. Bhutia criticised both the state and central governments for failing to act decisively. He noted that Sikkim has only one representative each in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, giving the state limited influence in Delhi. He accused certain IAS and IPS officers of working for personal gain rather than public welfare, in collusion with political leaders. Calling for urgent action, Bhutia appealed to the judiciary, lawmakers, and constitutional authorities to uphold the original spirit of the 1975 Merger Agreement. He said court judgments in the past have sometimes gone against the interests of the Sikkimese people due to misleading information from state authorities. If this continues, he warned, it could erode public trust, harm ethnic harmony, and compromise national security given Sikkim's borders with China, Bhutan, and Nepal. Bhutia urged all Sikkimese citizens to stay united and vigilant in defending Article 371F. He also reminded policymakers that weakening it would not just harm Sikkim's identity, but also threaten India's federal structure and national interest. Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah launches projects worth ₹1,107 crore for Varuna constituency
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah launched development works worth ₹1,107.72 crore for his home constituency Varuna on Saturday. Speaking after laying the foundation stone for the projects in Varuna assembly constituency across different departments at a function here, Mr. Siddaramaiah recalled his political journey starting with his first assembly election in 1983, when he won as an independent candidate and became a Minister. The Chief Minister said that he had won the elections to the Legislative Assembly five times from Chamundeshwari assembly constituency, and twice from Varuna assembly constituency. While thanking the people of Chamundeshwari, Mr. Siddaramaiah also recalled that he became the Chief Minister on both the occasions he won from Varuna and said that he will be indebted to the people of the constituency. Highest per capita income After fulfilling 158 out of the 163 promises the Congress had made before the 2013 Assembly elections in Karnataka, Mr. Siddaramaiah said that the government promised to implement five guarantee schemes — Anna Bhagya, Shakti, Gruha Lakshmi, Gruha Jyothi, and Yuva Nidhi — to eliminate economic inequality and uplift the poor before the 2023 assembly polls. The Congress government was spending ₹55,000 crore every year to implement the guarantee schemes, which had taken the State to the top position in the country in terms of per capita income, the Chief Minsiter said. 'These schemes have put more money into the hands of the people and boosted the economy, which has in turn increased the per capita income,' he said, while also pointing out that Karnataka stood second in GST collections in the country, next only to Maharashtra. Also, the government had fulfilled 242 out of the 542 promises made before the 2023 elections, he claimed. Contending that equal opportunities should be given to everybody in the society to eliminate economic inequalities, Mr. Siddaramaiah said the development programmes taken up by his government to uplift the poor, farmers, women, and economically weaker sections were being implemented without any discrimination on caste or religious lines. MP for Chamarajanagar Sunil Bose, who also spoke on the occasion, said that the people of Varuna constituency had given the State a popular Chief Minister in Mr. Siddaramaiah, whose government had carrieds out developmental works alongside the implementation of guarantee schemes. Yathindra, Congress MLC, who is also a former MLA of Varuna, sought to make it clear that there is no shortage of funds for taking up development works in the State even though the government was implementing guarantee schemes. 'These schemes ensure more money reaches the hands of the people,' he said, while reiterating that Karnataka ranked first in the country in per capita income. H.C. Mahadevappa, Minister in charge of Mysuru district; K. Venkatesh, Minister for Sericulture and Animal Husbandry; H.M. Revanna and Pushpa Amarnath, Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the State Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee respectively; K. Thimmaiah, MLC; G. Lakshmikant Reddy, Deputy Commissioner; and S. Yukesh Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of Mysuru Zilla Panchayat, were also present on the occasion.
