Mass. man filmed a teenage girl with his phone while she was in a Target fitting room, police say
A Swansea man is facing charges in connection with a teenage girl who was filmed while in a fitting room at a Target store, Swansea police said Thursday.
John Michael Williams, 25, faces the charges of photographing sexual or intimate parts of a child, possession of child pornography and disorderly conduct, police said in a statement.
At around 8 p.m. on Monday, police received a report that a 17-year-old girl was filmed while nude in a fitting room inside a Target at 579 Grand Army of the Republic Highway, police said.
Following an investigation, police determined that Williams filmed the girl with his cell phone, the statement read. Investigators used surveillance footage and social media photos of Williams to identify him, along with tips submitted from the public.
On Wednesday, Williams was arrested and officers took his phone as evidence, police said.
'This kind of invasive and disturbing behavior has no place in our community,' Police Chief Mark Foley said in the statement. 'We take incidents like this very seriously and will always work to protect the most vulnerable members of our community. I'm proud of the swift and diligent work of our Detectives, Furtado and Rowland, and Officer Stavens. They acted quickly and conducted a thorough investigation that resulted in the identification and arrest of the suspect.'
Williams' arraignment is scheduled for Thursday in Fall River District Court.

BRADENTON, Fla. - Two people are facing charges in a Florida road rage incident over a turn signal that led to a shooting and a man being hit with an SUV earlier this week, deputies say. What we know At around 3:23 p.m. on June 2, the Bradenton Police Department said it received multiple 911 calls regarding a shooting and traffic crash in the Riverwalk parking lot on Riverfront Boulevard. Officials said 33-year-old Raesean Poole was driving a Jeep and waiting to turn left out of the parking lot at 101 Riverfront Boulevard. Meanwhile, 20-year-old Antony Williams was driving a Buick east on Riverfront Boulevard and turned left into the parking lot in front of Poole. Williams parked his vehicle, and Poole backed up to confront him about not using a turn signal, authorities said. Williams and a 16-year-old passenger exited the Buick. Poole told police that during the confrontation Williams showed him a gun. CCTV video shows Poole began to drive away several times, but repeatedly stopped and continued arguing with Williams. During the final confrontation, officials said Poole turned onto Riverfront Boulevard, reversed and accelerated toward Williams. Poole hit a stop sign and a tree before then striking Williams in the leg. In response, the 16-year-old retrieved a gun and fired into Poole's Jeep. Authorities said all three men were arrested shortly after the incident. Poole is charged with aggravated battery with a motor vehicle, and the teen is charged with aggravated assault with a firearm. Officials say Williams currently does not face any charges in the case, and he was not seriously injured. Richland man sentenced for killing wife while speeding to pass a truck
A Richland man is headed to prison nearly four years after killing his wife in a dramatic south Richland wreck. Investigators believe Melvin D. Williams Jr., 65, was speeding up a hill on Leslie Road trying to get ahead of a merging truck when he lost control of the Saturn he was driving in June 2021. The car spun into the oncoming lane and crashed, killing his wife Victoria Deberry, 61. He was charged with vehicular homicide seven weeks after the crash and a lengthy hospital stay. On Tuesday, Williams entered an Alford plea to the charge. The plea means he doesn't admit to the crime, but believed the prosecutors could prove the charge if it went to trial. Williams faced between a year and three months and a year and eight months in prison.. Both sides agreed to a maximum sentence, and Judge Norma Rodriguez followed the recommendation. Deberry's family also asked for the judge to impose the maximum sentence, according to statements read into the record. William's attorney Deric Orr said his client took responsibility for his role, but the other driver remained free. 'Ultimately, while we firmly believe that (the other driver's) actions did contribute to Ms. Deberry's death, the prosecutor maintains the sole ability to charge someone with a crime. We are happy that Mr. Williams was able to put this behind him,' Orr told the Tri-City Herald. Williams told investigators that he was heading south on Leslie Road from Columbia Park Trail when he first tried to pass a Ford pickup. The two-lane section of Leslie Road goes uphill before narrowing from two lanes to one. Vehicles in the right lane have the right of way, while drivers in the left were instructed to 'merge right' with painted arrows on the road and signs. The pickup moved into the left lane in front of his Saturn and Williams moved into the right, he told investigators. The data recorder in the car showed he was going 76 mph with the gas pedal pushed nearly to the floor when the Saturn struck the right curb, court documents said. The posted speed limit was 40 mph. When he lost control, the car slid sideways in front of the truck. It kept skidding across the road and into oncoming traffic. It slammed into an SUV heading north. DA: Plymouth schools' food director stole goods, resold them at Barnstable snack shack
The longtime food services director for Plymouth Public Schools is facing charges that he stole thousands of dollars' worth of food, paper goods and equipment from the district, then used and resold the items at his privately run snack shack on Cape Cod, according to the Plymouth County district attorney's office. Patrick Van Cott, 62, of Sandwich, was arraigned Friday, June 6, in Plymouth District Court on charges of larceny over $1,200 by a single scheme and larceny from a building. He pleaded not guilty and was held on $50,000 cash bail. A judge ordered him to stay away from all Plymouth school buildings and storage facilities, the DA's office said. According to investigators, Van Cott used his position to order items – including lobster meat, Angus burgers and kitchen appliances – that were never served in school cafeterias. Instead, police say they ended up at the Sandy Neck Snack Shack in Barnstable, which Van Cott runs during the summer. A list of items that were purchased by Van Cott but are not currently in the Plymouth Public Schools storage facility was compiled totaling over $8,300 in goods, police said. Van Cott has worked for the district for nearly 22 years and was earning $114,000 annually as of 2024, according to his LinkedIn profile and town finance records. The investigation began after an anonymous tip was sent to school officials on May 30. Surveillance footage from April showed Van Cott removing commercial refrigerators from a school on a Saturday and taking them across the Sagamore Bridge, police said. A June 4 police search of the Snack Shack turned up government-purchased food, kitchen appliances and other district property, police said. Van Cott was arrested at the scene. His arraignment followed a statement from School Superintendent Christopher Campbell the previous day noting that a then-unnamed staff member had been removed from duty due to 'serious allegations' of misusing school property.
