'He's Done For This Series': Ben Stokes Sledges Shubman Gill
The third Test of the ongoing five-match series between India and England is all set for a box-office finish on Monday (July 14) after England dismissed four India batters for 58 runs in the 17.4 overs bowled on Sunday evening. India bowled England out for 192 runs in the second innings on Sunday, but in reply to the 193-run target set by the Ben Stokes-led side, lost four batters as well, which includes the prized wicket of India captain Shubman Gill.
Gill, who scored a total of 430 runs in the second Test played at Edgbaston last week, could only manage to score six runs from nine balls in the second innings of the Lord's Test. He was sent back to the pavilion by Brydon Carse on the last ball of the 15th over.
The English seamer trapped him in front of the wickets, and despite Gill taking DRS, he failed to survive.
Before Gill was sent back to the pavilion by Carse, England Test captain Shubman Gill sledged him by saying, '600 runs, and he is done for this series. 600 runs is enough for this fella."
The clip of Stokes' mind game to distract Gill was shared by Star Sports on X, and within no time it went viral on the internet.
He kicked off the series with scores of 147 and 8 in the series opener played at Headingley in Leeds from June 20 to 24 and hammered 269 and 161 runs in the second Test played at Edgbaston from July 2 to 6.
Gill is the fourth Indian batter after Rahul Dravid (602 in 2002), Virat Kohli (655 in 2016), and Yashasvi Jaiswal (712 in 2024) to score more than 600 runs in a Test series against England and the second after Dravid to amass a total of more than 600 runs in a red-ball series played on English soil.

Vaishali, Harika break the rapid tie to join Humpy, Divya in last 16 of Chess World Cup
Nagpur: D Harika and Vaishali Rameshbabu dominated the 10-minute time control of the rapid format to reach the fourth round of the top 16 players in the FIDE Women's Chess World Cup at Batumi, Georgia, on Monday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now After playing a series of four draws, both Harika and Vaishali registered victories in similar fashion in the third-round tie-breaks. They joined India No.1 Koneru Humpy and reigning world junior champion Divya Deshmukh, as four Indian masters made the cut to the last 16. Vantika Agrawal, however, suffered a heartbreak defeat against higher-ranked Ukrainian GM Kateryna Lagno. While world women No.12 Harika outplayed Greek IM Stavroula Tsolakidou, 15th-ranked Vaishali recorded a thumping win over American IM Carissa Yip. Both Harika and Vaishali won their respective third rounds 4-2 after they drew their classical games with the white and black pieces. Both the Indian Grandmasters started their tie-break rounds on Monday with a draw each in the two games of 15-minute time control. The 10-minute time control of the rapid format was enough for India No.2 and 3 to confirm their last 16 berths. The 2483 Elo Harika opted for the English Opening to take the lead by winning the marathon 60-move contest with her white pieces. She drubbed Stavroula in just 29 moves while defending with the black pieces in the second game. In contrast, the 2481 Elo Vaishali utilised her opening advantage with the white pieces well to become a piece up with an extra knight, outplaying American IM Carissa in just 27 moves for the decisive advantage. Following up her facile win, Vaishali not only defended well with the black pieces but also capitalised on Carissa's 31st move blunder to garner full points by winning the contest in 37 moves.

City's prep, 12cr washed away as Asian Rowing C'ship called off
Bhopal: The Asian Rowing Championship, originally planned for October at Bhopal's Upper Lake, has been cancelled. The event, set to host around 350 athletes and 200 officials from 15 different nations, will now be held in Vietnam instead. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now TOI accessed a letter written by the Indian rowing federation to the Asian rowing federation in this context. The cancellation is learnt to have caused a financial loss ranging between Rs 12 crore to Rs 15 crore for Bhopal. In the wake of tensions between India and Pakistan and Operation Sindoor in May the Indian Rowing Federation communicated to the Asian Rowing Federation in May about their inability to organise the championship in Bhopal. Hence the venue was shifted. Speaking to TOI, MP Rowing Federation President Mahavir Bhatnagar explained the difficult decision to shift the tournament "As Pakistan's team was expected to participate. We decided against hosting the championship." He further said, "Consequently, the National Federation had to inform the Asian Federation about India's inability to organise this championship." The cancellation of this prestigious event in Bhopal left the sports community and organisers deeply disappointed. The Upper Lake venue would have welcomed Asia's finest rowing talent in October. The decision affected both sporting activities and the state's economy. "The hosting opportunity could have generated around Rs 12 crore for Bhopal and Madhya Pradesh," according to Bhatnagar. The economic impact extends beyond the immediate loss of visitor spending. The event would have boosted Bhopal's profile as a sporting destination and potentially attracted future international competitions. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The opportunity to showcase the city's hospitality and organisational capabilities to an international audience has been hit. "The championship would have established Bhopal as a significant rowing destination on the international map, with the Upper Lake providing excellent conditions for the continental event," said Bhatnagar. Local athletes expressed disappointment at missing the chance to compete locally in a world class tournament. "This event would have offered us international competitive experience and technical knowledge. Several young rowers, including myself, were preparing intensively for this championship," commented an athlete on the issue without quoting his name.
