USA TODAY Sports shares Big Ten, Iowa football preseason poll
Teams were ranked first through 18th with a total points system used to rank teams: a first-place prediction equaled one point and last was 18. The team with the fewest points was ranked first.
Unfortunately for Iowa, it doesn't seem like the voters are as high on the Hawkeyes as some fans are. Let's take a closer look at Iowa's place on the list compared to the rest of the conference.
Where does Iowa rank in USA TODAY's Big Ten preseason poll?
Iowa was picked to finish 10th in USA TODAY's preseason Big Ten poll with 86 total points. They were just behind a tie for eighth place and comfortably ahead of 11th.
Nebraska and Washington tied for eighth place with 85 points, putting the Hawkeyes one point away from being higher on this poll. Minnesota finished 11th in the poll, with 112 points. Penn State is at the top of the poll and received the most votes to win the conference. Here's a look at the entire preseason poll and the points for each team.
Iowa will look to outperform its preseason projection from USA TODAY in 2025. To do so, they'll need a great year from quarterback Mark Gronowski, the offensive skill position players to step up and some new contributors to rise on defense.
With a veteran coach in Kirk Ferentz and a pair of exciting coordinators, I wouldn't put it past the Hawkeyes to finish better than 10th in the Big Ten this season.

Florida baseball's sophomore left-handed pitcher Frank Menendez enters transfer portal
Florida baseball's sophomore southpaw Frank Menendez has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to a report from Swamp247 on Thursday. The 6-foot-1-inch sophomore originally from Miami, Florida, only appeared in five games last season out of the bullpen, amassing a 1-0 record with a 1.29 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and .185 batting average against before an arm injury ended his 2025 campaign. His strong start also included 12 strikeouts versus three walks in seven innings while posting a 15.4 K/9, 3.9 BB/9 and 4.0 K:BB ratio. During his rookie season, Menendez appeared in 17 games as a reliever, logging a 1-0 record along with a 4.96 ERA and .277 batting average against while striking out 14 batters in 16 1/3 innings of work. In both seasons, he has only had one fielding chance, making good on that opportunity for a 1.000 fielding percentage. Menendez's departure marks the eighth member of the Orange and Blue to seek greener pastures through the transfer portal, joining fellow left-handers hurlers Jacob Gomberg and Niko Janssens, as well as right-handers Alex Philpott, Carson Montsdeoca and Felix Ong. The program also saw catchers Cole Bullen and Brock Clayton head out through the transfer portal. Shunned by hometown Razorbacks, redshirt-freshman Drake Lindsey set to lead Minnesota offense
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Minnesota redshirt freshman Drake Lindsey grew up with Arkansas blood running through his veins. His grandfather, Jim, played football at Arkansas before being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings. His uncle played tight end for the Razorbacks, his dad was a wide receiver for them, his cousin played quarterback for the Hogs, and another uncle also played quarterback. In addition, his sister recently finished playing basketball in Fayetteville, while another cousin runs track there. So, after finishing his high school career with a state championship and throwing for nearly 4,000 yards and 54 touchdowns with only three interceptions in his senior season, it seemed like a no-brainer he'd be lighting up Razorback Stadium. But his hometown college never made him an offer. 'I think in the beginning of my high school career, because I was playing really well, I was just wondering if it was going to happen,' Lindsey said. 'Growing up, you don't really think about playing anywhere else. You grow up going to Arkansas games.' This year, he's ready to prove Arkansas' loss was Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck's gain. 'I think it was a blessing in disguise,' Lindsey told The Associated Press at Big Ten media days. 'I got to meet a lot of good people, and I'm with the best coach in the country as a human being and as a coach. I don't think there's another coach in the country that's like coach Fleck as a person and as a coach. I'm super fortunate to have him as my head coach. 'So, wouldn't change it for the world.' The 2024 Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year saw playing time in three games last season and completed 4-of-5 attempts for 50 yards and a touchdown while being mentored by Max Brosmer, who signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent in April. Now, the 6-foot-5, 230-pound quarterback is set to take over an offense that finished 107th in the nation with 337.8 yards per game, including the 76th-ranked passing attack that averaged 222.2 yards per outing. Lindsey spoke confidently about turning things around, pointing out the importance of improving the unit's balance after last year's rushing attack gained just 115.6 yards per game (109th nationally). And while he was complimentary of the running backs room, he seemingly knows who'll butter his bread, as he used an impeccable scouting report to break down the strengths of each offensive linemen. 'I've had some lunches and stuff set up with O-line this summer,' he said. 'And then this season, we'll do something every week, and get that thing rolling.' '(Drake) really studied Max Brosmer constantly,' Fleck said. 'Really was his right-hand man. Learned how to lead an entire football team at a very young age. You know how hard it is to find a freshman quarterback that you can have for those four years. We feel we have a really good quarterback in Drake Lindsey.'

Notre Dame announces men's basketball 2025-26 non-conference schedule
Notre Dame has completed its men's basketball non-conference schedule for the 2025-26 season and has now officially announced who they will face. The Fighting Irish will have two exhibition games: one at Butler (October 17) and then at home against DePaul (October 24) inside Purcell Pavilion. The regular season then begins with three straight home games against LIU Brooklyn (November 3), Detroit Mercy (November 7) and Eastern Illinois (November 11). ND will play its first road game at Ohio State on November 15 before hosting Bellarmine on November 19. Then the team will head to Las Vegas to compete in the Players Era tournament with games against Kansas, Rutgers and a team to be determined (off of win-losses and point differential) from November 24-26. In December, the Irish will host Missouri in the ACC/SEC Challenge on December 2 before playing their final road non-conference game at TCU on December 5. They close out their non-conference slate with three straight home games against Idaho (December 10), Evansville (December 13) and Purdue Fort Wayne (December 21). After a disappointing 2024-25 season, Notre Dame will look to rebound this coming year and hopefully make a return to the NCAA Tournament.
