Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Shirsat Seen With Suspicious Bag Day After Tax Notice
The clip was posted on social media by Sanjay Raut, a senior leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT) faction, who took a swipe at the ruling alliance. In a scathing post, Raut wrote, "I feel pity for Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis! How many more times will he just sit and watch his reputation being torn to shreds? Helplessness has another name - Fadnavis!"
Shirsat, a legislator from Aurangabad (West) aligned with the Shiv Sena group led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, defended himself, claiming the bag seen in the video merely contained clothes and not money, as alleged by Raut.
He also confirmed that he had been served a notice by the Income Tax Department seeking clarification about the growth in his assets. "Some people had filed a complaint against me with the income tax department, based on which I was issued a notice. I was supposed to respond to it on Wednesday, but I requested more time. I will give a proper response. Nothing wrong has been done," Shirsat stated.
Shirsat added, "This is a well-thought-out conspiracy. I am sitting comfortably in my house, and my dog is sitting as well. Someone has recorded a video of this, which suggests they were spying on us... We are such people that anyone who visits our home eats food and drinks tea. It is our responsibility to supervise the workers. There might be an agent among them, but we do not worry about it, nor have we ever seen anything suspicious... Have you seen someone living in the house openly sitting beside money? This is unusual. But we will respond to this conspiracy."

Aaditya Thackeray, another prominent leader from the opposition Shiv Sena (UBT), joined the chorus of criticism, calling for swift action from both the tax authorities and Chief Minister Fadnavis.
"Today, it's Sanjay Sirsat, sitting in his vest and underwear. We talk about 'Khokhe' (boxes of cash), '50 Khokhe, Ekdum Okay', one is seen in the video. All these antics happening in just vests and undergarments, bags full of cash beside him, where did all this money come from? Who gave it? Can anyone just roam around carrying such wads of notes? And regarding the Income Tax notice that came the day before, will the IT department take any action? Will any action be taken on the orders of the Chief Minister or not? These are important questions that need answers," said Thackeray.
Initially, Shirsat also claimed that Shrikant Shinde, Lok Sabha MP and son of Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, had received a similar income tax notice. However, he later walked back the comment. "Someone asked me a leading question... My response was presented as if I were confirming a notice to Shrikant Shinde. I want to clarify that I have no information about that," he said.
In a separate development earlier this week, another video of Shirsat speaking at a public event in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar sparked fresh controversy. In it, the minister jokingly remarked, "Now, black money is not going to be useful. I am speaking for myself."
He added that he had already reached out to his chartered accountant and was preparing a detailed response to the tax notice. "It is easy to earn money, but using it has become difficult," he added, drawing laughter from the audience.
Shirsat later attempted to minimize the significance of the video, saying his remarks were intended humorously and were not an admission of any wrongdoing.

Mike Andrews, the lead US attorney representing more than 65 families impacted by the Air India AI171 crash, has called for full transparency in the investigation. "We want to know the truth, we want transparency and exactly what happened," Andrews told news agency ANI. "These families want to know, and they deserve the respect to know what happened to their loved ones." A report by The Economic Times quoted Andrews as saying that if the flight data recorder (FDR) and cockpit voice recorder (CVR) findings point to technical faults as the cause of the crash, he would move US courts to pursue a product liability case against Boeing. 'We are placing formal requests with the Air India and AAIB (Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau) to release the details of the FDR, which will reveal a great deal about the accident,' he told The Economic Times. Andrews also met the lone survivor and his family, describing them as "humble and hardworking" people who are enduring unimaginable pain. He added that investigators are exploring multiple possible causes, including a malfunction in the throttle control system. "One question is whether or not moisture can affect the systems and cause a problem," he said. Anger over compensation delays The US attorney criticised the slow pace of compensation, calling it a 'bureaucratic process' that would not have existed under the leadership of the late Ratan Tata. "Even in the US, we know who Ratan Tata was," Andrews said. "We know about his work ethic and his humility. If he were here today, we don't believe victims and their families would be subjected to delayed payments." On July 26, Air India released an interim compensation of ₹25 lakh each to the families of 147 passengers and 19 victims on the ground. This amount will be adjusted against the final settlement later. Tata Group's memorial and support The Tata Group has also set up the "AI-171 Memorial and Welfare Trust" in memory of the victims. The Trust has pledged an ex gratia of ₹1 crore per deceased individual, while also funding the rebuilding of the damaged BJ Medical College Hostel and extending support to first responders and medical teams. On June 12, Air India flight AI171, a Boeing 787-8, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The accident killed 260 people — 229 passengers, 12 crew members, and 19 people on the ground. NCERT introduced a special module for schools to commemorate Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on August 14. This module aims to educate students about the reasons behind the partition and identify those responsible for it. The module attributes accountability to three significant figures: Mohammad Ali Jinnah, who demanded Pakistan; the Congress, which agreed to partition given the circumstances; and Lord Mountbatten, who expedited the process. According to the module, Jinnah relentlessly pushed for a separate country, while Congress leaders Nehru and Patel chose to accept partition. Mountbatten's rapid formalisation of the partition is criticised for increasing chaos and violence. The module clarifies that the partition was not inevitable but resulted from misguided ideas and specific circumstances. Mountbatten hastened British withdrawal by setting the partition date to August 15, 1947, instead of June 1948. His haste exacerbated the chaos and violence, with the incomplete planning of the Radcliffe Line leaving millions uncertain about the status of their villages. The module clearly attributes this negligence to the tragedy of partition. The effects of partition continue to influence socio-political relations, including tensions with Pakistan, the Kashmir dispute, increased defence costs, and the ongoing mistrust between the two major communities. The modules describe Partition as an 'unprecedented human tragedy, with no parallel in world history." They document mass killings, the displacement of nearly 1.5 crore people, large-scale sexual violence, and trains of refugees arriving 'filled only with corpses, having been slaughtered en route." Horrific events in Noakhali, Calcutta, Rawalpindi, Thoha, and Beval are cited as chilling examples, reported ANI. The secondary stage module highlights the Indian leaders' lack of experience in handling national or provincial administration, the army, and police. Mountbatten's role in advancing the transfer of power is highlighted as a careless act that left millions uncertain about their national affiliation even after Independence Day. The modules conclude by framing Partition as a warning for future generations. It stressed that shortsightedness in rulers can lead to national catastrophes and that concessions to violence in pursuit of peace can embolden violence-prone groups. The new module has stirred a row. Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit challenged the BJP for a discussion on Partition. '…I challenge NCERT for a discussion on Partition. Today, they (BJP) have NCERT under their control; they don't know anything about Partition," he told ANI. While party spokesperson Pawan Khera said, 'Burn this document as it doesn't tell the truth. Partition happened due to nexus between Hindu Mahasabha and Muslim League." He further added, 'RSS is danger to this nation. Idea of partition was first propagated by Hindu Mahasabha in 1938.
