Videos circulating on social media show widespread destruction—vehicles buried under debris, homes inundated with floodwaters, and frantic rescue efforts underway. Mandi has received an intense 202.6 mm of rainfall since Monday evening, causing local drains—known as Suketi nullahs—to overflow and carry massive debris through parts of the city. Rescue operations led by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police, and home guards are ongoing. About 15–20 people have been rescued so far, according to officials. Relief efforts are being supported by the Public Works Department, Jal Shakti, and power utility teams to clear debris and restore basic services. In response to the disaster, a relief camp has been established at Vipasha Sadan. Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur also expressed concern, noting the scale of devastation in Mandi this monsoon.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued an 'orange' alert for Mandi, Kullu, and Kangra districts, forecasting heavy to very heavy rain. A 'yellow' alert remains in place for several other districts, including Shimla, Sirmaur, and Chamba. Citizens have been advised to stay away from the Beas River and its tributaries, which are currently flowing above danger levels.Since the onset of the monsoon on June 20, Himachal Pradesh has reported damages exceeding Rs 1,539 crore. Over 190 people have been rescued from the Dharali area so far, following a devastating cloudburst that triggered massive flash floods and landslides in the area. A massive rescue effort is being carried out in Dharali, with multiple agencies working in coordination, including the Army, NDRF, ITBP, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Uttarakhand Police, and local administration. CM Dhami Monitoring Situation Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday held a meeting with the officials from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) at the camp office in Uttarkashi to review the ongoing rescue operation in Dharali. Earlier on Wednesday, following the flash floods and landslides in the Dharali area of Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Dhami visited the affected region and reviewed the relief and rescue efforts. In a post on X, the Chief Minister's Office stated that despite weather-related challenges, the Chief Minister reached the site and met with affected families. He also directed officials to ensure the timely delivery of relief materials and assistance. PM Modi Spoke To Dhami Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Chief Minister Dhami and took stock of the situation on Wednesday. He also assured all possible support from the central government. The statement posted on X said, "Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi also spoke with Chief Minister Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami over the phone this morning to gather updated information on the natural disaster in the Dharali area and the ongoing relief and rescue operations." Relief Material Provided According to the CMO, to expedite relief efforts, essential food items and relief materials were air-dropped in Dharali through two helicopters. The Chief Minister said that the government's priority is to restore normalcy at the earliest and to ensure that aid reaches every affected individual. "At the request of the state government, the Centre has deployed two Chinook and two MI-17 helicopters from Chandigarh, Sarsawa, and Agra. These helicopters are also being used to transport heavy machinery to restore road connectivity." The state Health Department has reserved beds at Doon Medical College, Coronation District Hospital, and AIIMS Rishikesh to treat the injured. As grim visuals emerge from the ground reports of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Himachal Pradesh, the impact looks like nothing less than a natural disaster where villages, towns, roads, bridges, farmlands, and even government buildings are getting devastated. All attempts at rescue operations are underway as the state authorities are combating this unforgiving weather. Uttarakhand: Mountains Under Assault Kotdwar – The National Highway 121 has been totally washed away due to floods in the Kalghadi stream (nala) on the Kotdwar-Thalisain road, disrupting connectivity between Pabo and Paithani. Heavy rainfall has also laid waste to crops in many fields. In Phaludwari village, a cloudburst totally destroyed one house, although animals from some cowsheds were moved to safety. Pauri – Two women have lost their lives due to continuous rain. One woman died as she was buried under rubble in the Buransi village, and efforts are on to find another. Five Nepali workers have been washed away separately in Bankura village, Thalisain tehsil. Joshimath – A huge landslide has covered the Badrinath Highway at Jogidhara, leaving thousands of pilgrims stuck. In Joshimath's Narsingh Mandir Ward, subsidence of land caused the wall protecting the area to collapse, injuring two shops. Landslides occur on this site during the monsoon season every year, but safety measures have not yet been put in place. Rudraprayag – The pilgrimages to Kedarnath and Madhyamaheshwar Dham have been halted by the administration till August 8 as a precautionary measure against the danger of falling boulders on trekking trails. Haridwar – The Ganges River has breached 294.30 meters, breaking the danger mark. Public announcements at ghats are being made by the administration to caution devotees against approaching the flooded river. Udham Singh Nagar – Houses in Chakarpur, Indira Colony, and Rajiv Colony of Bajpur have been flooded. Relief and rescue operations are being carried out by administration, NDRF, and SDRF personnel. Himachal Pradesh: Roads Blocked By Landslides, Trees Uprooted Shimla – Incessant rains have resulted in the closure of 613 roads, out of which 4 National Highways are among them. As many as 448 houses were completely destroyed, while electricity and water supply chains are badly affected. A total of 194 deaths have occurred so far in the state from monsoon-related reasons. Uttar Pradesh: Flood Warnings And Ground Situations Shahjahanpur – Dam water releases have resulted in a sudden surge in the levels of water in the Garra and Khannaut rivers. Police and relief troops are put on high alert, with 120 localities and villages in 13 police station zones at the risk of floods. Meerut – Swelling water levels in the Ganga River in the Khadar area of Hastinapur are at risk of flooding several villages. An alert has been sounded by the administration. Prayagraj – Low-lying regions are inundated as the Ganga and Yamuna rivers overflow, compelling residents to move to the rooftops for refuge. One viral video depicts a family fashioning a path with a ladder from their roof to an adjacent home. Kanpur – In the midst of the somber reports of rain and flooding, comes the heartwarming development of the successful rejuvenation and restoration of the Noon River to its flowing conditions under the "One District-One River" mission. Bihar: The Ferocious Face Of The Ganga Munger – The Ganga River's water level is increasing at a fast pace, flooding villages in areas such as Sadar, Jamalpur, and Asarganj. Munger-Begusarai link road is two feet under water. Bhagalpur – Waters from the Ganga have flooded PG hostel, necessitating the evacuation of female students. Students were photographed departing the hostel with their luggage for two days in a row. Chapra – A government primary school is fully submerged in floodwaters, severely affecting children's schooling. Buxar – The Ramdas Rai OP Police Station is flooded by floodwaters, with several police vehicles submerged as well. Rescue and restoration operations continue amid difficult terrain and ongoing SDMA has also reported 304 injuries due to disaster-related incidents and confirmed 36 people still estimated cumulative loss to public and private property stands at a staggering Rs 1,90,550.45 lakh (Rs 1905.5 crore), affecting roads, houses, agriculture, horticulture, power, and water citizens have been advised to avoid travel through vulnerable areas and stay updated through official Himachal State Disaster Management Authority continues to reel under the impact of an unrelenting monsoon, with extensive damage to life and infrastructure.
