
Boomerang CEO Aye Moah helped manage our inboxes. Now she's taking on our calendars
It's become increasingly common for people to devote two to three hours to email per day. Reducing that burden has been a 15-year mission for Aye Moah, cofounder and CEO of Boomerang.
Since Gmail's early days, she and her team have helped nearly 1.5 million businesses streamline their inboxes using Boomerang's triage tools, including a popular 'pause' button for email—all to the tune of about $8 million in annual revenue. Now, the company is expanding its reach with its acquisition of GQueues, a to-do list and team task manager designed to tackle other forms of digital distraction.
Moah spoke with Fast Company about managing information overload, protecting work-life boundaries as a fully remote team, and why simply processing emails differently can reduce anxiety by 10%. The conversation has been edited for length and clarity.

Google, Spotify and other major platforms down in massive internet outage
Much of the internet appears to have broken, with Spotify, Google, Snap and Discord all hit by major issues. The problem appears to be related to technical issues at Google Cloud, which provides the infrastructure that powers much of the internet. Many Google products – such as Search, Gmail, Maps, Meet, Nest and others – were hit by the problems, according to tracking website Down Detector. But it also affected third-party websites; which may rely on Google's tools. That includes Snapchat, Discord, Spotify, the Pokémon trading card game and artificial intelligence tool Etsy, Shopify, UPS, Roblox and others also seemed to be affected by problems. Other web infrastructure platforms such as Cloudflare were also hit by problems, though Cloudflare itself was not affected, a spokesperson said. The problems appeared widespread, affecting vast numbers of users across the world, according to Down Detector. Google indicated on a tracking page that all of its regions had been hit by the problems. Issues began around 7pm UK time, or 2pm eastern. Shortly after, Google said that it was aware of the problems — but it took hours before it was able to begin a full recovery. Google Cloud's status website showed a vast array of issues across the world. Many of the technologies that third-party companies rely on to provide services were broken, it said. It apologised to 'all who are affected by the disruption'. It did not give any information about what had caused the problems – only that it had 'identified the root cause' and had 'applied appropriate mitigations'. At around 9pm in the UK, or 4pm eastern, the company said that it had found the issue and applied a fix. But it noted that there could still be issues and that it did not know when a full recovery would happen. People on social media were not happy to find that their favorite platforms were down. 'How spotify gonna be down when i am at the gym what tf am i supposed to do now,' one X user wrote. Another posted: 'Is this the end of the internet? how is everything down… AWS, Google Firebase, Cloudflare.' 'GUYS INTERNET IS COOKED Wtf do i do without discord and spotify im extremely bored, i cant even work google drive is down,' a third wrote.

Google, Spotify, more experience outages amid apparent widespread issue
(NEXSTAR) — Numerous websites and online services, including Google services, Spotify, DoorDash, and more, are reportedly encountering outages Thursday afternoon amid what appears to be a widespread outage. Outage tracker Downdetector shows dozens of sites and services are seeing increased rates of user-reported issues, with reports starting to spike shortly after 2 p.m. ET. More than 40,000 such reports were filed for Spotify, for example. There, users said they were unable to load or use the app. For Discord, more than 12,000 users reported issues sending messages or establishing a server connection. Other sites, apps, and services with reported problems included Snapchat, Pokémon Go, Etsy, Fubo, and Mailchimp. The company's Search status dashboard showed no incidents as of Thursday afternoon. The Workspace dashboard initially had the same message before linking to an update posted shortly before 4 p.m. ET that the problem impacting several services — Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Chat, Google Cloud Search, Google Docs, Google Drive, Google Meet, Google Tasks, and Google Voice — had been resolved. The Google Cloud status site shows that worldwide incidents have been reported. A notice posted on the status site around 3 p.m. ET reported that 'multiple [Cloud] products are experiencing impact due to Identity and Access Management Service Issue.' After reporting that its engineering team was investigating the issue, a notice on the status site said the root cause had been identified and 'appropriate mitigations' had been applied. The message said recovery is expected to be complete before 6 p.m. ET. Google Cloud offers computing services to companies, essentially hosting their apps, data, and more. One company listed as a Google Cloud client, Shopify, has also seen a spike in outage reports. Downdetector says more than 800 issue reports have been filed, especially with the company's website. Meanwhile, Spotify users who have reported issues accessing the streaming service have been instructed by the company's support account on X to try a different browser, with one post specifically asking if the user was experiencing a problem 'only with [Google] Chrome.' In response to posts remarking on issues with its services, however, Google had responded and said that 'there aren't any known service disruptions' before asking the users to 'try clearing cache & cookies.' A notice on the company's site said its Workers KV service went offline 'due to an outage of a 3rd party service that is a key dependency.' The notice says services are starting to recover and engineers are continuing to work to resolve the issue. Amazon Web Services was also encountering problems. As of 3 p.m. ET, nearly 6,000 issue reports had been made regarding AWS on Downdetector. The company has not, however, reported any issues on its status dashboard. Google Cloud users report widespread outages cross US
A massive wave of online service outages rippled across the internet on Thursday afternoon, with a broad swath of popular platforms experiencing simultaneous disruptions. Real-time data from outage tracker Downdetector showed a dramatic surge in user reports for companies including Spotify, Google, Discord and Snapchat. The spike began shortly before 2:00 p.m. ET, with Spotify logging over 40,000 problem reports, by far the highest among affected platforms. Discord followed with more than 11,000 reports, and Google — which includes services like Search, Maps, and Gmail — registered over 10,800. Google Cloud appears to be experiencing a widespread outage, with a sudden spike in user reports indicating major service disruptions. The uniformity of the spikes has raised questions about whether a shared infrastructure provider or network routing issue may be involved, though no cause has yet been confirmed. Affected users have reported problems ranging from login failures and dropped server connections to app crashes and total service unavailability. Downdetector only registers an incident when the number of reports substantially exceeds the usual volume for that time of day, suggesting that Wednesday's disruptions are far outside the norm. The Post has reached out to Discord, Spotify and Snapchat for comment. As of mid-afternoon, none of the companies had provided an official explanation.
