Jackie's journey into motherhood began early—she became a mum at just 17, giving birth to Jeff in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Despite all odds, she raised him on her own after her first marriage ended, and later married Miguel 'Mike' Bezos in 1968, who became not just her partner but also Jeff's adoptive dad. Together they built a close-knit family that included Jeff's siblings Christina and Mark.
Heartfelt tribute
Jeff has posted a heartfelt tribute on social media for his mother.
"Her adulthood started a little bit early when she became my mom at the tender age of 17. That couldn't have been easy, but she made it all work. She pounced on the job of loving me with ferocity, brought my amazing dad onto the team a few years later, and then added my sister and brother to her list of people to love, guard, and nourish. For the rest of her life, that list of people to love never stopped growing.
She always gave so much more than she ever asked for," he writes.
"After a long fight with Lewy Body Dementia, she passed away today, surrounded by so many of us who loved her — her kids, grandkids, and my dad. I know she felt our love in those final moments. We were all so lucky to be in her life. I hold her safe in my heart forever," he adds.
Lewy Body Dementia: What Is It?
Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) is a tough, progressive brain disease that's actually the second most common dementia after Alzheimer's.
Here's what makes it so tricky:
It can affect memory, movement, alertness, and behaviour
People may experience visual hallucinations, parkinsonism symptoms (like slow movement or stiff muscles), and even changes in sleep patterns (like acting out dreams)
There's no cure as of now—treatment focuses on managing symptoms and helping patients stay as comfortable as possible.

Jackie was diagnosed in 2020 and faced the disease head-on with dignity and courage—having her devoted husband Mike by her side at every step.
She was a real-life superstar—raising kids, going back to school in her mid-40s to earn a psychology degree, all while working and juggling life's curveballs. Her fierce spirit didn't stop there—Jackie helped launch Amazon in 1995 with a game-changing early investment (around $245–250 k), a move that would go on to shape history.
On top of that, her heart for others ran deep. In 2000, she co-founded the Bezos Family Foundation, championing initiatives like Vroom (brain-science-based parenting tools) and the Bezos Scholars Program (supporting youth both in North America and Africa). Her dedication to education, empathy, and community was palpable every step of the way.
Her philanthropic impact reached even further—Jackie and Mike backed groundbreaking immunotherapy cancer research through partnerships with Seattle's Fred Hutch Cancer Center, including a massive $710 million gift in 2022 that was one of the largest donations the center had ever seen.
Jacklyn 'Jackie' Gise Bezos lived a life that was nothing short of extraordinary. She was a trailblazer, a nurturer, a lifelong learner, and a visionary who invested not just in her son's dreams but also in the futures of countless others. Her fierce love for family, coupled with her tireless work in education and healthcare, leaves an imprint that will last for generations.

Just A Decade Ago This Man Found Out He's Jeff Bezos' Biological Dad: 'I Changed His Diapers'
Last Updated: For Ted, remarriage of Jacklyn Bezos severed the connection, leaving him unaware that the child he once cared for had transformed into a global icon. Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon and Blue Origin, penned an emotional note for his mother on Instagram after she passed away at the age of 78. The 61-year-old billionaire said Jacklyn 'Jackie" Bezos' journey into adulthood began early when she became my mother at just 17. He added that it wasn't easy, but she managed to make it all work. She tackled the role of loving me with determination, brought my wonderful dad into the picture 'a few years later". Bezos reminisced about how his mother met and fell in love with Miguel 'Mike" Bezos a few years after his birth. Mike would later adopt and raise Jeff as his own son. The Story Behind Jeff Bezos' Biological Father Inside Edition earlier reported that a named Ted Jorgensen — Bezos' biological father — lived for nearly five decades without knowing that the tech titan was his own flesh and blood. The discovery occurred in 2014 when a biographer visited Jorgensen and asked if he knew Jeff Bezos. 'The name sounds somewhat familiar, but I don't know him," Jorgensen said at that moment. Unbeknownst to him, the baby boy he once called Jeffrey Jorgensen had grown up to become the founder of Amazon and one of the world's most influential figures. This identity mystery resulted from a significant decision made years earlier. After Ted divorced Jacklyn Bezos in 1965, their infant son still carried his surname. However, three years later, Jacklyn remarried Miguel 'Mike" Bezos, who adopted Jeff, giving him a new name and identity. For Ted, this change severed the connection, leaving him unaware that the child he once cared for had transformed into a global icon. Jorgensen was taken aback by the revelation, but reconnecting turned out to be harder than he anticipated. 'Considering Jeff's status, it created a barrier that wouldn't exist if he had a more ordinary job," explained Linda, Jorgensen's wife, referring to the intense media attention and public scrutiny that made a quiet reunion impossible. Despite the prolonged silence, Jorgensen wasn't in search of fame or financial gain. His desire was straightforward— a moment of recognition and an opportunity to express regret. 'I just want to tell him that I used to change his diapers, you know? And just see him, shake his hand, and tell him he's done really well in life," he shared with Inside Edition. Regrettably, Jorgensen passed away in 2015 at the age of 70, never achieving the closure he longed for. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Jeff Bezos' biological dad did not know he had become a billionaire until 2012: ‘I wasn't a very good father'
Jeff Bezos' statement on the death of his mother has offered a rare glimpse into the private life of the billionaire. Jacklyn 'Jackie' Bezos died on August 14 after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia. In a statement shared on Instagram, Bezos recalled how, a few years after his birth, his mother met and fell in love with Miguel 'Mike' Bezos – the man who would go on to adopt Jeff and raise him as his son. Jeff Bezos was born to Jacklyn and Ted Jorgensen in 1964(AFP) 'For nearly 60 years, Jackie and Mike built a life grounded in love, mutual respect and shared joy,' the statement read. 'Through every chapter-challenges and triumphs alike their devotion to one another never wavered. Their bond was a source of strength to their family and a beautiful example of enduring love.' (Also read: Jeff Bezos announces mother's death, wife Lauren Sanchez drops a comment) Jeff Bezos' biological father Jeff Bezos' biological father, Ted Jorgensen, did not find a mention in his post. This in itself is unsurprising, because Jorgensen and Jacklyn divorced when Jeff was just 17 months old. Jorgensen did not keep in touch with the family. In fact, according to a Benzinga report, he did not even know that Jeff Bezos had become a billionaire founder of Amazon until Brad Stone, the author of "The Everything Store: Jeff Bezos and Amazon," tracked him down in 2012. For his part, Bezos, 61, has maintained that he considers Mike to be his natural father in every sense that matters. In a 1999 interview with Wired, reported by Business Insider, Bezos said, "The reality, as far as I'm concerned, is that my dad is my natural father. The only time I ever think about [my biological father] is when a doctor asks me to fill out a form." Jacklyn gave birth to Jeff Bezos when she was just 17 years old. Jeff's father was 19-year-old Ted Jorgensen, a teenage unicyclist. Jeff Bezos' adoptive father In his book The Everything Store: Jeff Bezos and Amazon, Brad Stone said that Jorgensen struggled with alcohol. Soon after Jeff's birth, Jacklyn left him and went back to live with her parents. The couple divorced when Jeff was just 17 months old. Despite being a young and single mother, Jacklyn completed her education and attended night school, often bringing baby Jeff to classes. She later married Mike Bezos, a Cuban immigrant who adopted Jeff when he was four years old and gave him his surname. Ted Jorgensen didn't know his son became a billionaire Ted Jorgensen only learned that his son had grown up to be Jeff Bezos when Brad Stone tracked him down in 2012. Stone found him at a small bicycle shop in Glendale, Arizona in 2012. When Stone told him, 'Your son is one of the most successful men on the planet', Jorgensen was shocked. He did not even recognise the name Bezos. 'I wasn't a good father or a good husband,' he admitted, according to a Page Six article. 'I didn't know where he was, if he had a good job or not, or if he was alive or dead.' 'I used to wonder all the time though whatever happened to Jeff. Then I just reached a point where I thought he was long gone. That was the only child I ever had – that makes a difference too. The last time I saw him he was in diapers,' Jorgensen said. 'I had a number, but Jeff's mother asked me not to interfere so I didn't want to call.' Jorgensen later expressed a desire to meet his son. However, that meeting never happened. He died in 2015.
