BTS flight data leak: South Korea probes airline staff, two others over celeb privacy breach
According to a report in The Korea Herald, the airline staff member is suspected of accessing internal systems to obtain the information and passing it to others, who then sold it via social media channels.
Citing industry sources, the report said the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency found evidence of both unauthorised access and financial transactions worth tens of millions of won.
Entertainment company Hybe, which represents BTS, was said to have played a key role in advancing the investigation by monitoring online activity and submitting evidence to authorities.
'We maintain a zero-tolerance policy toward crimes that commercialize and traffic in artists' personal information,' Hybe reportedly said.
The case has raised fresh concerns over repeated privacy violations by 'sasaeng' fans who attempt to track celebrities during flights, according to the report.

(EPA Images pic) COLOMBO : Sri Lanka's parliament voted overwhelmingly today to dismiss police chief Deshabandu Tennakoon for misconduct and criminal behaviour, making him the island's first inspector-general to be impeached. Tennakoon, 54, was removed less than two years after his controversial appointment, with a disciplinary committee finding him unfit to lead its 85,000-strong law enforcement body. Tennakoon was appointed in November 2023 by then-president Ranil Wickremesinghe, despite the Supreme Court having previously ruled that he had tortured a suspect in custody by rubbing menthol balm on his genitals. Public security minister Ananda Wijepala told parliament today that Tennakoon should never have been put in the top job, given that he faced 40 court cases for abuse of power. 'He is the most disgraced police chief in the history of our country,' Wijepala said. Parliament backed a resolution by speaker Jagath Wickramaratne to impeach Tennakoon, following a disciplinary hearing led by a Supreme Court judge and two others. 'I am pleased to inform that the motion to impeach Deshabandu Tennakoon has been approved with 177 votes in favour, and none against,' Wickramaratne said. Members of the main opposition SJB party also voted to remove the police chief. Shortly after his appointment to head the force, Tennakoon was accused of authorising a botched raid in December 2023 that led to a gun battle between rival police units in the coastal resort town of Weligama, resulting in the death of an officer. A disciplinary inquiry found that Tennakoon had 'spearheaded the questionable, illegal act of shooting'. The Supreme Court suspended him in July 2024 pending the outcome of a separate case. In March, the state prosecutor told a court that Tennakoon was operating a paramilitary hit squad to carry out illegal activities and was unfit to serve, even at the lowest rank in the police force. Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa said his party had objected to Tennakoon's appointment from the outset, and today's vote vindicated their position. There has been no response from Tennakoon since the impeachment process was initiated last month.

Ismanira had no sinister intent towards Zayn, court told
The Petaling Jaya sessions court will decide on Oct 31 whether Ismanira Abdul Manaf is guilty of neglecting Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin in a manner likely to cause him physical harm. PETALING JAYA : Text messages Ismanira Abdul Manaf sent to her husband before and on the day their son Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin went missing do not indicate any harmful intent towards the boy or herself, a child psychologist told the sessions court here today. Dr Noor Aishah Rosli, 49, said her evaluation of the couple's WhatsApp conversations indicated that Ismanira was merely venting her emotions to her husband, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari. Among the messages purportedly sent by Ismanira include 'stress nak mati' (I'm stressed to death), 'rasa macam nak bunuh diri' (I feel like killing myself), 'lantak la nak hidup ke mati' (I don't care whether I live or die), and 'budak ni elok je, takde la aku pukul dia' (this boy is fine, I didn't hit him). 'This is a wife pouring out her emotions to her husband. It's normal, especially from a mother caring for two children with autism. 'From a psychological point of view, we cannot conclude that she intended to commit a crime based on those words,' said the fifth and last defence witness. Noor Aishah added that it was not unusual for people to use such strong language when confiding in their partner, saying it did not mean they had harmful intentions. While Ismanira might have been emotionally exhausted when she spoke about taking her own life, Noor Aishah said it appeared to be merely an emotional outburst aimed at gaining Zaim's attention. When asked by Ismanira's lawyer Haresh Mahadevan whether Zayn walking a few steps behind his mother before he went missing could amount to neglect, Noor Aishah disagreed. 'Neglect must be assessed from the child's birth until the day of the incident. Everything prior to the incident appeared normal. 'It was only on that day that he happened to be walking behind her, and a few seconds later, he went missing. That alone cannot be defined as neglect,' she said. She added that no professional body in the world would consider a mother walking ahead of her child as an act of neglect. Ismanira and Zaim, both aged 30, were charged last year with neglecting Zayn in a manner likely to cause him physical harm. However, Zaim was acquitted after the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case against him. The alleged offence took place in PJU Damansara Damai between noon on Dec 5, 2023 – when Zayn was reported missing – and 9.55pm the next day, when his body was found in a stream near his home at Apartment Idaman, Damansara Damai. Deputy public prosecutors Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin, Aqharie Durranie Aziz and Nur Sabrina Zubairi are leading the prosecution. Judge Syahliza Warnoh fixed Oct 31 for a decision.

Taiwan detains three over TSMC ‘trade secret leaks'
TAIPEI, Aug 5 — Taiwanese prosecutors said today they had detained three people after chipmaking giant TSMC reported suspected 'trade secret leaks' relating to a key technology. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company alleges a former employee and two current staff may have 'unlawfully obtained' trade secrets, the High Prosecutors Office's Intellectual Property Branch said. The information relates to the firm's 'national core technology', they said. TSMC made the discovery in July after detecting 'unusual access to internal personnel files', the prosecutors said. After speaking to witnesses and collecting evidence, prosecutors said the three defendants were 'strongly suspected' of violating the National Security Act. TSMC is the world's largest contract maker of chips and counts Nvidia and Apple among its clients. In a statement, it said it had taken 'strict disciplinary actions against the personnel involved' in the 'potential trade secret leaks'. 'As the case is now under judicial review, we are unable to provide further details at this time,' TSMC said. The company did not provide details about the technology involved in the suspected leaks. — AFP
