IND vs ENG 5th Test: Unplayable! Josh Tongue puts India in trouble with twin strikes
Josh Tongue
turned the tide in England's favour with two sharp wickets on a rain-hit Day 1 of the fifth and final Test at The Oval, putting India on the back foot in their must-win encounter.
After India lost skipper Shubman Gill to a run-out, the visitors were looking to rebuild through Sai Sudharsan and Ravindra Jadeja.
But Tongue had other ideas.

First, he got rid of the gritty Sudharsan in the 36th over, who had settled in after scoring 38 off 108 balls. Tongue delivered a sensational ball that angled in and then nipped away late, squaring Sudharsan up completely. The left-hander edged it straight to Jamie Smith behind the stumps, walking off immediately after the nick. It was a high-quality delivery - one that would have troubled even the most seasoned batters.
Then came an even more awkward ball for Jadeja in the 40th over. Trying to hang in and build a partnership, the all-rounder was undone by a short-of-length delivery that kicked off the surface and moved away. Jadeja was caught in an uncomfortable position as he tried to defend on the move, and the outside edge once again flew to Smith. The veteran batter, who put up a marathon stand with Washington Sundar in the 4th Test could only manage 9 runs in 13 balls.

In a spell where Tongue had been inconsistent, these two deliveries stood out for their quality and impact. Both Sudharsan and Jadeja were key to India's plans of putting up a strong first-innings total, and their dismissals have left the visitors in a pickle.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Taunts Ben Duckett Over Batting Style During 5th Test. This Happens Next
Yashasvi Jaiswal was involved in a fiery exchange with Ben Duckett on Day 4 of the fifth Test encounter between India and England at The Oval on Sunday. Jaiswal teased Duckett about his cautious approach against the India pacers and urged him to play in his usual aggressive style. 'Come on, I want to see your shots. Play the sweep, reverse sweep. This is not your game,' Jaiswal said while fielding. Duckett did not keep quiet as he fired back - 'Why should I listen to you?' India skipper Shubman Gill also joined in as the India fielders continued to put pressure on Duckett and he was dismissed by Prasidh Krishna. Your turn to subtitle this reel! #SonySportsNetwork #ENGvIND #NayaIndia #DhaakadIndia #TeamIndia #ExtraaaInnings | @ybj_19 — Sony Sports Network (@SonySportsNetwk) August 3, 2025 Coming to the match, India removed England's Ben Duckett and stand-in captain Ollie Pope to effectively be six wickets from tying the series on day four Sunday of the fifth test at the Oval. England, absent the injured allrounder Chris Woakes, was 164-3 at lunch in pursuit of 374 to win the test and clinch the series 3-1. Harry Brook was 38 not out with Joe Root on 23 and England needing 210 more runs. Root survived an umpire's call on 3 and Brook should have been out on 19 but Mohammed Siraj, with ball in hand, stumbled back on to the boundary cushion. The odds remained in India's favor despite England's history of gunning down big targets. England resumed the day on 50-1 and scored only 37 runs in the first hour as the India seamers got the ball to nip around under London's grey skies. Ben Duckett, who lost his opening partner Zak Crawley to the last ball on Saturday, was uncharacteristically subdued, possibly still bothered by the hit on his glove by Prasidh Krishna late Saturday. He still reached his fourth fifty of the series, though, with an edged four past gully. But the pressure from Siraj and Akash Deep tempted him to go after Krishna and give up his wicket by edging to Lokesh Rahul at first slip. Duckett scored 54 off 83 balls. The Oval lights came on and Root was under fire, notably from Krishna, who unsuccessfully appealed for lbw. Reviews showed the ball clipping leg stump. Pope unleashed three boundaries in an over against Krishna but his second innings troubles returned when he was out to a Siraj nip-backer. Pope averages 46.69 in first innings but 19.64 in second innings. His 27 was his second highest score in a fourth innings. Siraj's 20th wicket made him the leading wicket-taker in the series. Brook joined Root and was dropped on 19 off Krishna by Siraj on the boundary. Brook rubbed salt into the wound by smacking 16 runs off the over. About 20 minutes later when lunch arrived, a still sorry Siraj pointedly walked over to Krishna to give him a hug.

Yashasvi Jaiswal dares Ben Duckett to 'show some shots', batter loses wicket moments later: 'This is not your game man'
Shubman Gill's India had a sense of purpose when they took the field on Day 4 of the fifth and final Test against England at the Oval. As Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna and Akash Deep made the ball talk, the fielders decided to back up their pacers by constantly chirping and getting under the skin of England batters. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is usually quite mellow in the field, decided to rattle Ben Duckett up. Yashasvi Jaiswal tried to get under the skin of Ben Duckett by constantly chirping.(PTI/Reuters) As Ben Duckett played and missed off Mohammed Siraj's bowling, Jaiswal approached him and asked him to play some attacking shots. In the first innings, the left-handed batter had played an audacious reverse sweep off the bowling of Akash Deep, and Jaiswal stated that he wanted to see the same. Jaiswal mocked Duckett, saying the England opener doesn't have the natural gameplay of grinding it out, and hence, he should bring out some aggressive shots. This constant sledging worked in India's favour, as soon after, Duckett lost his wicket off Prasidh Krishna's bowling. The left-handed opener walked back to the pavilion after scoring 54 runs off 83 balls, with the help of six boundaries. Here is the conversation between Jaiswal and Duckett caught on the stump mic: Jaiswal: This is not your game, man! Show some shots. I want to see your reverse sweep. Why are you defending? Duckett: Later. Jaiswal: There's no point. Speaking of the fifth and final Test, England resumed proceedings on Day 4 at the score of 50/1. Duckett completed his half-century, but soon after, he walked back to the hut. Mohammed Siraj, who was the pick of the Indian bowlers in the morning session, sent back England's stand-in captain Ollie Pope, putting the visitors in the driver's seat. Siraj also committed a schoolboy error, and as a result, Brook got a reprieve. More than 100 runs were scored in the first session as the final Test is also going down to the wire. Earlier, India set England a target of 374 after Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a century in the second innings. This was his sixth Test ton overall and fourth against England. Ravindra Jadeja, Akash Deep and Washington Sundar also smashed half-centuries.
