Michelle McManus joins Robbie Williams for duet at Murrayfield show

The National2 days ago

The Glasgow-born singer joined her longtime friend on stage at Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium, treating the 70,000-strong crowd to an electrifying duet of Relight My Fire.
The performance brought Scots to their feet as they could be heard cheering loudly while the pair performed.
The setlist included a string of Robbie's biggest hits, such as Angels, Rock DJ, and Let Me Entertain You, creating an unforgettable night for fans.
Ahead of the performance, Michelle admitted she was more nervous singing in front of Robbie than she had been when performing for the Pope.
She said: 'My happy place is when I sing, so the singing part is not the problem. The nervous part is singing to Robbie Williams in front of 70,000 people.

'When we did the Pope's visit in Bellahouston, it was 80,000—but singing for a bunch of cardinals and a Pope was slightly different from singing for Robbie Williams.'
The Glasgow Times reported that back in March, Robbie surprised Michelle with the invitation during an interview on her BBC Scotland radio show.
As the interview wrapped up, Robbie asked unexpectedly: 'Would you like to come and sing with me in Edinburgh?'
A clearly shocked Michelle responded: 'Sorry… What? What was that?' before emotionally accepting: 'Yes, I'm saying yes—I would love that. You are amazing. And you are an incredible human being. I meant every word I said before this even came up.'
(Image: Michell McManus Instagram) Following the performance, Michelle shared a photo of the moment on her Instagram Stories, showing her and Robbie singing together on stage.
She captioned it simply: 'This diva though.'
Robbie also shared post on social media sharing his love for Scotland.
Sharing a striking photo from the concert, he captioned the post: 'Scotland – I love you.
"That was an incredible opening night. Until next time. Rob x'
The comments section quickly filled with love from fans who were blown away by the show.
One wrote: 'Rob is the best.'
Another added: 'You were on fire. Absolutely incredible show.'
A third fan declared: 'What a night. THE KING OF ENTERTAINMENT!'
The surprise duet marked a memorable highlight of the tour's kickoff and a heartwarming moment for fans of both artists.

Angels set Fenway Park record, hang on vs. Red Sox

June 3 - The Los Angeles Angels became the first visiting team to hit three home runs in the first inning of a game at Fenway Park and held on for a 7-6 win over the Boston Red Sox in the opener of a three-game series on Monday night. Jo Adell had a two-homer game, while Mike Trout highlighted a 3-for-4 night with a three-run shot, the Angels' second of three in the opening frame against Boston starter Richard Fitts (0-3). Leadoff hitter Zach Neto opened the six-run inning with a homer. Trout's 1,675 career hits are second in Angels history. Garret Anderson is first with 2,368. Ryan Zeferjahn (3-1) tossed a perfect seventh, while former Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his 12th save in as many chances. From the top of Boston's lineup, Jarren Duran went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs. The Angels scored five of their six first-inning runs before Fitts recorded his first out on his 33rd pitch, taking a 1-0 lead on Neto's drive that sailed over the Green Monster in left field and out of the ballpark. After Nolan Schanuel walked and reached third on Taylor Ward's single to right, Jorge Soler drove in a run while reaching on Red Sox third baseman Abraham Toro's fielding error. Trout's three-run homer to deep center -- 454 feet away -- made it a 5-0 Los Angeles lead. The next batter, Logan O'Hoppe, lined the first out against Fitts to first base, but Adell added to the visitors' lead with a solo shot to left-center. After Red Sox reliever Hunter Dobbins worked through the second and third innings by facing the minimum with the help of a double play ball, the hosts got on the board on back-to-back doubles by Duran and Rafael Devers with one out in the third. Devers lined his two-bagger past the dive of Ward in the left-center gap. Los Angeles starter Tyler Anderson started the fifth with his fifth and final strikeout, but did not complete the frame after the next four Red Sox reached base. He finished 4 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks. Rob Refsnyder's wall-ball single and a Carlos Narvaez line double to left plated runs, then with Hunter Strickland in for relief, Romy Gonzalez knocked a two-run double inside the first-base line to bring Boston within one. Adell wasted no time getting the run back for the Angels, crushing the first pitch of the sixth inning out to left-center. --Field Level Media

I was looking at Eric Bristow's flat when he died and his demise hit me hard, says ex-BBC darts host Bobby George

'MY MATE' I was looking at Eric Bristow's flat when he died and his demise hit me hard, says ex-BBC darts host Bobby George Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) BOBBY GEORGE says the sudden death of long-time drinking and darts pal Eric Bristow seven years ago 'hit me hard'. And his new book details the duo's many escapades. According to George, the five-time world champion would be 'good as gold until about 10 or 10.30pm — then he'd become a complete a***hole once he had drunk too much'. The King of Bling, claimed Hackney-born Bristow would be 'rude, arrogant, leery and happy to pick a fight with anyone . . . I didn't like him when he was like that, no one did'. Yet the Crafty Cockney never wavered in his strong loyalty towards George, 11 years the senior man, whom he called Bo. Bristow — one of the sport's greatest throwers — died on April 5, 2018 from a heart attack before a Premier League event in Liverpool. He was 60. Writing in Still Here! The King of Bling, George, 79, said: 'Eric Bristow's death hit me hard. 'He was only 60 for f***'s sake. That's no age these days, is it? I had known him since he was a teenager — and he never changed. 'He could be a pain in the a*** and we had some right ding-dongs over the years. The list does not include winners from the pre-Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) era or BDO world champions. On the night Bristow died, George was on Merseyside, working at Shooters Bar and Diner. The pair had 'a little catch-up and I got him a Guinness'. 'One of the best things I've ever seen' - Frank Lampard stunned as Coventry star hits 180 with first-ever three darts That night, George stayed in a Stoke pub run by Barry Birch, Bristow's former driver. And he was even looking at 'Eric's flat' less than 200 yards away when he learned the tragic news. George said: 'I couldn't believe the suddenness of his passing. 'Nor could I take in the fact that I could see his flat — the same flat he'd have left just a few hours earlier — as I was trying to take in the tragic news. 'What were the odds of it? Me being with him, saying goodbye, going to Stoke and looking out of a window at his flat whilst stood alongside his former driver? 'We both needed a stiff drink that night. They reckon Eric's heart must have stopped before he hit the ground as there was no blood. 'In his diary, apparently, he'd written he had got bad chest pains. "Bloody hell, if that was the case, why didn't he go to the doctors or hospital and get it sorted? 'Knowing Eric, he probably thought, 'I'll put loads of Guinness down my neck, that'll get rid of the pain'. 'Anyone who knew him was aware that he didn't exactly lead a healthy lifestyle. I had known him since he was a teenager — and he never changed." Bobby George on Eric Bristow 'For as long as I'd known him, he was a heavy smoker, always rolling his own. 'And he would think nothing of getting through 15 or 16 pints of Guinness in a day, rounding it all off with a curry. Nobody's body can handle that day in, day out. 'Always on the go, working and travelling, meant he was always pushing it. "Although it wasn't work to him, just a chance to get on the p*** every day. 'I like a drink and a smoke but there are extremes and Eric pushed them to the limit. 'I'd say, 'You smoke and you drink too much'. He said, 'I know all about that, Bob. But put it this way, no one is going to be pushing me around in a wheelchair. When I go, I'll go like that. Bang'. And he f***ing did as well, bang.' George first encountered the 'mouthy so-and-so' while playing in a BDO event at Margate in Kent. 4 Bobby George knew the late Eric Bristow when he was a teenager Credit: GETTY He said: 'After that we became good mates and he would do anything for me, anything.' As they toured the country, they 'would share prize money', but there were times when George thought 'we're going to get our heads kicked in' due to Bristow's OTT antics. On a US tour in 1978, the first time George went on a plane, Bristow enraged locals by pretending 'to wipe his a***' with the American Stars and Stripes flag 'before chucking it on the floor'. George said: 'The atmosphere had turned really toxic and I was worried that someone was going to do something really stupid, like pull a gun out on him. ''Watch yourself, Eric,' I whispered in his ear. 'These guys aren't messing about and they have guns over here!' 'I'd like to say that was an isolated incident but it wasn't. 'That's how he was, always getting into trouble. But somehow always managing to get himself out of it.' Still Here! The King of Bling, published by Pitch Publishing, is out now, £25.
