Speaking on Padamjeet Sehrawat's podcast, Sehwag recalled the turbulent phase during India's tri-nation series against Australia and Sri Lanka Down Under, when he was dropped from the side by captain MS Dhoni after the first three matches.
Poll
Do you think Sehwag made the right decision to continue playing ODIs?
Absolutely!
Not really.
'In the 2007-08 series against Australia, I played the first three matches and then MS Dhoni dropped me from the side. I wasn't picked for a while after that. Then I felt that if I can't be a part of the playing XI, then there is no point in playing ODI cricket,' Sehwag said.
Frustrated and ready to walk away, Sehwag approached Tendulkar to share his decision. What followed was a conversation that changed the course of his career.
'I went to Tendulkar and said, 'I am thinking of retiring from ODIs'. He said, 'No. I went through a similar phase in 1999-2000, where I felt I should leave cricket. But that phase came and went. You are going through a trough, but it will pass. Don't make any decision when you are emotional.

Give yourself some time and 1-2 series, and then take a call.''
Sehwag took the advice to heart, returned to the side, scored heavily in the following series, and went on to play a crucial role in India's 2011 World Cup-winning campaign.
Sehwag went on to play 251 ODIs for India, amassing 8,273 runs at an average of 35.05 and a strike rate of 104.33, including 15 centuries and 38 fifties.
Sehwag's message for son Ayraveer
The former opener also spoke about his son Aryaveer's budding cricket journey. Selected for Delhi's U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy squad in December 2023, Aryaveer, Sehwag said, would inevitably face comparisons but should not take on undue pressure.
'That pressure will always be on you, but you should not take that pressure. Pressure is something that you give, not take… Hope he goes on to play either for India or the
Ranji Trophy
,' Sehwag remarked.

‘Have to negotiate spin threat': Alyssa Healy warns Australia ahead of Women's World Cup in India

Australia skipper and veteran cricketer Alyssa Healy admitted that her side will have to negotiate the threat posed by Indian spinners when they travel to India for the upcoming ICC Women's World Cup. If defending champion Australia want to dominate and hold onto their World Cup title for a record-extending eighth time, they will need to counter the spin challenge. Leading the way for Australia would be their star and dependable batter, Healy, who struck a classy century and scored an unbeaten 137 for Australia A during the third and final One-Day against India A, leading them to a nine-wicket win in Brisbane. Although the century came in a dead rubber and in a consolation win for the home team, as India had already won the three-match One-Day series. Although Australia lost the series 1-2, Healy looked in supreme touch with the bat and became the highest run getter in her comeback series after she was out of competitive cricket for nearly six months due to a knee injury. Healy had struck a 91-run knock in the previous game, once again displaying her mastery against the India A spin attack that had the likes of Radha Yadav, Minnu Mani, Tanuja Kanwar, and Prema Rawat, who did not play the third match. 'They've (India A) got a really spin-heavy attack and we're going to have to play a lot of that throughout the World Cup as well, a lot of the middle overs will be spin-biased,' Healy told Australia A made a mockery of the spin attack to finish the match in less than 28 overs on Sunday by chasing down a modest 217-run target for the loss of just one wicket. Their coach Dan Marsh too felt that Healy's performance on Sunday places her in a good space ahead of the World Cup in India. 'Alyssa batted well today. All pre-season she's been looking good and it was just nice to see her get some match practice and put that into place heading into India,' Marsh said. 'She'll be really happy with her two weeks (with Australia A), will have a nice little rest at home now and be ready to go to India,' added Marsh. Earlier, England coach Charlotte Edwards also said they can beat any team, including India, when they travel to the sub-continent to play the marquee World Cup. The statement came after England's 2-1 loss in both the T20I and ODI series. 'We were massively challenged and that's how we want women's cricket to be. It wasn't a reality check. We know we can beat India. We are going into a World Cup where we know if we play our best, we can beat any team,' Edwards had said to the BBC Stumped podcast. (With PTI Inputs)

Alyssa Healy shines in Australia A series against India ahead of T20 World Cup

New Delhi [India], August 17 (ANI): Australia women's team skipper Alyssa Healy showed exceptional form in the 'A' series against India, ahead of her international return next month for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup in India. Healy was the highest run-getter for her side in both T20s and ODIs of the 'A' series. The right-hand batter scored 124 runs in three T20s before upping the ante with 242 runs from three one-day games, as per the ICC. Healy, who has struggled with injuries since late 2024, was last seen in Australia colours in February 2025 against England. While none of the games had international status, Healy would take heart from the fact that she thrived against a competitive India A team featuring Shafali Verma, Radha Yadav, and Yastika Bhatia. The Australia 'A' coach, Dan Marsh, certainly felt that Healy had a good outing in the middle, believing that her performances place her well ahead of the upcoming ICC Women's Cricket World Cup in India. "Alyssa batted well today. All pre-season, she's been looking good, and it was just nice to see her get some match practice and put that into place heading into India. She'll be really happy with her two weeks (with Australia A), will have a nice little rest at home now and be ready to go to India," Marsh was quoted as saying by in the aftermath of her match-winning 137* in the third one-day game. While Australia A had won the T20S 3-0, they lost the one-day series 1-2. But it proved to be a good practising ground for the likes of Healy, Tahlia McGrath and Darcie Brown, with Healy also keeping the wickets in the one-day segment. Australia will feature in a three-game ODI series in India ahead of the World Cup, ensuring that their skipper gets more games to be at her very best before the global tournament. (ANI)
