HBO Max just got a live sports upgrade for every tier — here's what's coming
HBO Max is giving us another reason to keep it our top pick for the best streaming service out there — Banana Ball. Yes, the baseball sensation that's sweeping the nation is coming to HBO Max. Starting with The Savannah Bananas vs. The Firefighters at Rate Field in Chicago (home of the White Sox) on Saturday, Aug. 16, at 8 p.m. ET, you'll be able to watch Banana Ball live on TruTV and HBO Max. For those of you who've heard of the Bananas, you already know this is awesome news. The one-time collegiate summer league baseball team has transformed into the Harlem Globetrotters of baseball, ditching traditional baseball for fast-paced, two-hour games featuring everything from dancing grandmas (the "Banana Nanas") to iconic 2000s pop-punk band The All-American Rejects performing an impromptu concert during a game. As someone lucky enough to attend a game in person, I promise you that the hype around this sports sensation is earned. My wife does not like baseball in the slightest, and she had a blast, as this live sporting event is easily as much about the entertainment as it is about the baseball, if not more. And when I say "lucky," I mean it. These games sell out fast, so watching on TruTV or HBO Max might be the best chance you have at seeing what all the fuss is about. Unlike with most live sports, everyone will get access to these Savannah Bananas live broadcasts. Back in February, HBO Max announced that its Bleacher Report Sports add-on, which gives subscribers access to live sports streaming, would become free for most users. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. HBO Max gives you tons of hit shows and movies, from HBO Originals to A24 movies and more. But there was a catch: only Standard and Premium subscribers got this free perk. If you had the Basic with Ads plan, you wouldn't get it, including those who get HBO Max through the Disney Plus, Hulu, HBO Max Bundle With Ads Plan. Not this time, though. All 19 Banana Ball games on truTV will be free to all HBO Max subscribers, including those on the ad-supported plan. So tune in on Aug. 16 and get ready to go Bananas. If you don't have HBO Max, don't worry. As these games are on TruTV, you can also get them through most of the best live TV streaming services. NASCAR's Stewart Friesen suffers multiple injuries in dirt racing track crash
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Stewart Friesen was involved in a multi-car crash on a dirt racing track in Quebec, Canada. He sustained multiple fractures to his pelvis and right leg, which required surgery, according to a post on his social media account. Jessica Friesen, Stewart's wife, took to social media to share details from her husband's CT scans. The scans revealed that while competing in a Super DIRTcar Series race at Autodrome Drummond, Stewart suffered an unstable open-book pelvic fracture and a fractured right leg, both of which will require surgery. According to NASCAR, the injuries occurred after Frisen's No. 44 car tipped onto its right side and collided with the end of the outside retaining wall. The impact caused the car to flip and barrel-roll before erupting into flames then being struck by a competitor who was unable to avoid the crash. #NASCAR Truck Series driver #StewartFriesen was involved in a scary accident during Monday night's #DIRTcar Series #KingOfTheNorth race at #AutodromeDrummond in #Canada. He was alert & talking with officials before being transported to a hospital to be evaluated for injuries.🙏 Friesen was coming off a Super DIRTcar victory this past weekend at Weedsport Speedway in New York and was looking to continue his winning streak on Monday and Tuesday. Details emerge about Little League coach in hot water over heated dugout scene
Little League is all just good fun, right? One Little League softball coach is under fire after she was recently caught on ESPN's broadcast putting her hands on a player, appearing to shush her in a disciplinary manner. But the incident has become less straightforward, as it appears that it happened between a mother and daughter: Camden-Wyoming (Delaware) head coach Shani Benson and pitcher Shai Benson. At the end of the second inning in last week's Delaware-New Jersey clash, Benson's team entered the dugout as she began coaching them. It quickly escalated as the player, appearing to be Benson's daughter, spoke back to her mother and was quickly shushed with a stern finger to the lips that forced her into a full lean-back. 4 Shai (left) and Shani Benson were interviewed after winning against New Jersey and punching their ticket to the regional championship. Delaware Sports Network 'It's never good to put one's finger/hand on anyone, period! It's a bad look even if it's her kid!' one X user wrote about the incident. 'Regardless of anything else, she wouldn't coach another game. Ever,' another wrote. Others on X felt differently about the incident. 4 Shani Benson looks on as her daughter, Shai, argues her. @plankshow/X 'This is what snowflakes pass as physical assault nowadays? She put her finger over her mouth and told her to be quiet,' a user commented. 'There had been a collision at 1B right before this and this girl was upset about it & talking trash. Coach was telling her to be quiet.' 'I just don't understand the complaints. She didn't hit the girl, she put her hand over her mouth and told her to be quiet,' another said. 'That's what a responsible adult should do when their daughter is running their mouth.' It's apparent, given the split response on X, the situation toes the line of what is acceptable in a setting where the discipline is on display for an entire team and, in this case, a world of viewers at home. 4 Shani Benson quickly reacted to her daughter by walking toward her to shush her. @plankshow/X 4 Shani Benson puts her fingers to Shai Benson's lips to shush her. @plankshow/X However, the mother-daughter development adds to the fallout of an already controversial situation. Delaware went on to win the game, 3-1, to reach the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship, where Pennsylvania took the Bensons and Co. down, 5-4.
