Dwyane Wade fires back at James Harden comparisons as debate over all-time shooting guards heats up
Dwyane Wade
recently made a crazy jab at James Harden as the two shooting guards' similarities grew. Usually placed only behind
Kobe Bryant
and Michael Jordan, both are frequently considered to be among the finest in NBA history.
James Harden has the individual honors, winning an MVP award and on the verge of breaking into the top 10 all-time scorers, while Dwyane Wade has the team success, winning three titles and a Finals MVP award.
Dwyane Wade weighs in on James Harden comparisons and what truly defines greatness
One of the most fascinating debates of the league is the one concerning the greatest shooting guards in NBA history. The discussion includes individuals like Klay Thompson, James Harden, and Dwyane Wade. Among these players, the Los Angeles Clippers and
Utah Jazz
co-owners are frequently compared.
Now, the former player recently weighed in on the discussion. He said on the Time out podcast:
"It's going to be a lot of arguments about 'Oh, he's better because he scored more points. Oh, he's better because I like his game better. He's better because he won more rings.' This conversation never goes anywhere... Winning a ring, it's a whole different game than being a great player and having stats. I could have more stats if I didn't care about winning a ring.'

The constant comparisons between the two is the source of his comment. Patrick Beverley, a former
NBA
player, was also one of many who made the comparison in his March podcast. He said:
"I've seen the comparison with James Harden and [Dwyane Wade], I'm taking James Harden over D-Wade, it's only because of longevity.'
In a March edition of his podcast, G.S. Warriors player Draymond Green also made comparisons between the former All-Stars.
He adopted his own stance on the issue by selecting D-Wade.
Dwyane Wade is tired of the comparison (Image via Instagram / @dwyanewade)
He said:
"I played against both of them and really both of them in their prime. Like I played D-Wade when I came to the league and they were winning championships in Miami. But in saying that, man, James Harden is so fu***ing good. But the reason I'm going to pick D-Wade, I'm going to pick D-Wade, and he won championships and he won a championship as Finals MVP, carrying a team in his third year. Yes, he had the Diesel and Diesel changed everything.
I'mma pick D-Wade because of that reason.'
Even though D-Wade is a senior, James Harden still has time to prove himself. Now, only time will tell who will emerge victorious in the debate.

The statue stands 12 feet tall and sits in the plaza outside the New England Patriots Hall of Fame. Fans are already talking about which Tom Brady moment this statue will capture. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's new NBA deal exceeds entire 2013–14 Spurs team salary under fresh cap rules
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's new NBA deal exceeds entire 2013–14 Spurs team salary under fresh cap rules (Image Source: Getty Images) A shocking pay comparison is drawing wide attention in basketball circles. One star now pocketing more in a single season than a full championship team did a decade ago says a lot about how NBA finances have escalated, with one player alone rewriting what we expect from contracts today. Shai Gilgeous‑Alexander secures record‑breaking contract paying more than 2013‑14 Spurs payroll On July 8, Shai Gilgeous‑Alexander, reigning NBA MVP and Finals MVP, signed a four‑year supermax extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The deal averages about $68.1 million per year, making it the highest annual salary in NBA history. — RTNBA (@RTNBA) By contrast, the entire San Antonio Spurs active roster in the 2013–14 championship season made roughly $63.5 million combined. Essentially, one season's pay for Gilgeous‑Alexander now surpasses the total earned by an entire title‑winning Spurs team. How salary cap growth and superstar status created this historic pay gap This big difference in pay is because of the rising NBA salary cap. In 2013–14, the cap was $58.68 million. In 2025, it had grown to over $140 million. This jump is mostly due to new TV deals and the 2023 agreement between players and the league. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's new deal is huge. In the 2025-26 season, he will make around $38.3 million. In 2026-27, it goes up to $40.8 million. By 2029-30, it could be more than $70 million. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo On average, he will earn about $68 million per year. That's the highest yearly pay for any NBA player. Shai is only 26 years old. He had a great year before signing this contract. He won the MVP, was the top scorer, and won the Finals MVP too. He helped the Oklahoma City Thunder win their first NBA title since 2008. The San Antonio Spurs in 2013–14 was very different. That team had legends like Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobili. They all played together with a team-first mindset. Their total team salary was only $63.5 million that year. Still, they won the championship. It shows how fast the NBA has changed. Shai's contract shows how much top players are worth today. It's a big sign of how far the league's money has grown.
