Family's unconventional life aboard a cruise ship
TikTok user Chelsea has captivated audiences by sharing her unique lifestyle, living part-time on MSC cruise ships with her husband and their young son, Mattia.
Chelsea's husband is employed by MSC Cruises, allowing the family to reside on the ship for eight weeks at a time.
The family is able to live in the cruise ship living quarters free of charge, with the main challenge coming in the form of attempting to keep everything neat and tidy, even with a toddler running around.

They also get the same food privileges as passengers, meaning they can eat for free at many restaurants, but they would have to pay if they wished to visit a specialty dining venue.
In general, they get all the same privileges as other cruise ship passengers, such as access to the kids clubs, on-board activities and so on.
Another huge bonus for the lifestyle is that her and her family get access to a free laundry service, taking a big burden off her day to day.
Chelsea says it's a great way for her husband to not have to miss the younger years of their son growing up, and that there are some other families on-board that she's befriended.
'Exactly why we do it! He would miss so much if we didn't go visit all the time! And because I worked on ships I don't find the life hard!,' she shares on TikTok.
'I have a few friends now who are also officers wives/girlfriends, one just went home.'

As for some of the other logistics, Chelsea explains that she has an inflatable bath that gets store in the shower, which she inflates to bath Mattia when she has to, and that Mattia sleeps in a portable travel cot in the corner of the room.
While stories are often shared of people retiring on cruise ships or up-ending their lives to go live at sea, Chelsea's story offers a different perspective for what it can be like to live on a ship.
Cruise lines try to help in situations like these so that dedicated crew members can still regularly spend time with their family, and show their family the wonders of life at sea as well.

Why this Port Melbourne couple will never leave their dream area
Port Melbourne's Jessie Grant and Steve Fitzgerald love their suburb so much they're planning to stay there for life. And it's no surprise they consider the inner Melbourne suburb to be one of the city's best, after a report revealed it's among Victoria's best lifestyle areas. Research commissioned by MCG Quantity Surveyors using data from real estate analytics company SuburbTrends analysed the state's top lifestyle spots with the best long-term growth potential and lifestyle offerings, based on factors such as access to amenities such as childcare, schools, beaches and open space, and 10-year median price growth. While areas such as Armstrong Creek, Barwon Heads and Newtown in Greater Geelong and Winchelsea on the Surf Coast topped the list, plenty of Melbourne suburbs were also included in the Top Lifestyle Areas report. Cheltenham, Highett, Mentone, Newport, Beaumaris and Williamstown were all mentioned alongside Port Melbourne. More than 25 years ago, Ms Grant and Mr Fitzgerald fell in love with the beachside suburb while visiting Mr Fitzgerald's mother who lived in South Melbourne. 'We walked every day in 'Port' and we just decided this is where we want to be,' Ms Grant said. They've been in Port Melbourne since 2010, first buying a cottage and later a three-bedroom townhouse. Since then, they have welcomed sons Oscar, Alby, and Cormac, now aged 14, 12 and nine respectively, into the world. However their growing family, including rescue dog Jazzy, meant they needed more room. 'We looked for about two or three years at four-bedroom houses in Port Melbourne and we just couldn't stretch the budget,' Ms Grant said. They eventually decided to renovate their 'skinny little townhouse just to stay in the area' with its close-knit community, beach and parks to walk Jazzy in. There's also plenty of sports facilities for their sons who participate in football, basketball, cricket, baseball and boxing. When some friends were going to sell their four-bedroom house in Port Melbourne, the couple jumped at the chance to secure it. 'You know, we could get a much bigger house for a lot less money out in the 'burbs, but we just love living in Port Melbourne,' Ms Grant said. 'We love everything about it and we just couldn't see ourselves leaving.' In the future, after their boys grow up and move out, she and Mr Fitzgerald are set to join a group of their friends intending to buy apartments in the same Port Melbourne building. White Fox associate director Cheyne Fox said Port Melbourne's parks, schools, shops, restaurants, friendly community and nearness to Melbourne's CBD meant many locals looked to upsize or downsize within the suburb. The 'slightly softer' market was now allowing buyers to purchase homes in the suburb they might not have been able to afford three to four years ago, Ms Fox added. 'So whereas something might have been sitting on $3m or just above a few years ago, it's now dipping down to $2.6m, $2.7m and it's making it more achievable for those people,' she said. 'And I'm seeing some savvy purchasers who are aware of that fact, snapping up some really good properties at very reasonable prices given what they were a few years back.'

Meltdowns and stares: What I learnt taking kids on a luxury cruise
It's December 25 in Livorno and, like our fellow passengers in Amphora – the a la carte restaurant onboard Windstar Cruises' Star Legend – our family of four is settling in for a fancy Christmas dinner. Dressed in our festive finest, my husband and I sip champagne while our nine- and seven-year-old daughters draw as we wait for our starters to be served. So far, so good on our decision to swap Christmas at home in France for a small-ship Mediterranean cruise. We're on day three of our seven-night sailing from Rome to Barcelona and we have all adapted to the luxuries of life onboard with alarming speed. I wish I could ask Father Christmas for this evermore. That is, until my youngest takes offence when I stop her from taking her cardigan off. In protest, she slams her forehead into her fine-china place setting in front of her, before starting to wail at her usual high volume. The commotion stops conversations around us. A crew member swiftly comes to her side, removing the tableware from her reach. I don't need to look up to see the knowing glances passing between people nearby. My smugness has evaporated, replaced by a blush that quickly deepens: Windstar's minimum age is eight years old, and we've been granted an exception to bring her on the cruise. She is, right now, demonstrating exactly why that limit has been set. While few cruise lines explicitly ban children (Viking and Virgin Voyages being the most notable examples), not all of them offer Disney and Royal Caribbean-style bells and whistles. At the smaller end of the cruise ship scale, Windstar and its like among other premium and luxury lines welcome younger guests (the age limit varies per line) but they don't have any dedicated kids programming as such.
