UAE Golden Visa 2025:
The United Arab Emirates has broadened its prestigious Golden Visa scheme, adding five new professional categories aimed at attracting global talent. Announced in May 2025, this expansion opens up fresh pathways to 10-year, self-sponsored residency for individuals in sectors such as healthcare, education, digital content, gaming, and maritime luxury.

For students, these changes offer future residency opportunities tied directly to career paths. Understanding the qualifications for each new category can help students plan studies and build relevant experience early on.
Nurses with long-term service
Nursing students should note that professionals with over 15 years of service are now eligible for the Golden Visa, as per the announcement made by Dubai Health on May 12, 2025.
This recognises the critical role nurses play in Dubai's growing medical tourism sector, which sees 3.7 million visitors annually, according to the Dubai Health Authority (DHA). Students aiming to qualify should focus on clinical excellence and long-term service in public or private hospitals, ideally in the UAE.
Teachers and educators in private institutions
The Golden Visa is now open to private school teachers, principals, and academic staff in universities across Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah.
The scheme is managed by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) and RAK DOK. Students pursuing degrees in education or subject specialisations should work toward teaching roles in KHDA-approved schools or universities. Academic distinction and experience will enhance eligibility, and family sponsorship is included under this category.
Content creators and digital media professionals
Creative arts, media, and communications students can now target the content creator visa, introduced at the 1 Billion Followers Summit.

Managed by Creators HQ, this track supports filmmakers, influencers, and other digital creators without the need for employer sponsorship. Applicants must demonstrate significant digital impact or an engaged online audience. A strong portfolio and participation in regional media events can strengthen a student's future application.
E-sports and gaming professionals
Students passionate about gaming, development, or event management can explore the new gaming-focused visa, available through Dubai's DPG33 and Abu Dhabi's Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT).
Applicants must be over 25 and accredited by Dubai Culture. Career options include professional gaming, e-sports organisation roles, and digital design. With the UAE's gaming market worth $1.8 billion, students in this space have expanding prospects.
Luxury yacht owners and maritime executives
Students interested in marine engineering, luxury tourism, or yacht management can benefit from the Golden Quay initiative by Abu Dhabi. The visa is open to owners of yachts over 40 metres and senior executives in the maritime sector. Careers in naval design, luxury cruise operations, or marina management may lead to eligibility. The maritime industry's value, currently $1.2 billion, signals steady growth.
By aligning their studies with these high-growth sectors, students can position themselves for long-term success and residency in the UAE.

Action plan soon to develop Tirupati as tourist hub: Tourism Minister

Tirupati district will be developed as a tourist hub and a special action plan will be formulated for the same in the coming days, said Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Cinematography Kandula Durgesh. After visiting the Venkateswara Swamy temple at Tirumala on Monday, the Minister said that a meeting would be held in Tirupati on August 7 and 8 to discuss tourism development in the district. The meeting will be attended by officials from various departments, including Tourism and Endowments. The Minister also announced that all the temples and tourist spots in Tirupati district would be connected to form a tourism circuit. He added that the Gandikota tourism project, which has been sanctioned under the Central government's Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment scheme, is expected to be launched on August 1 by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. With the grant of industrial status to the tourism sector and the announcement of a new policy, several investors are coming forward to set up five-star hotels in Tirupati and Visakhapatnam on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode, Mr. Kandula Durgesh said, adding that efforts are being made to facilitate the establishment of these hotels. Later, the Minister announced that water sports and beach resorts will be set up along the State's coastline. Efforts are under way to launch a cruise service between Visakhapatnam and Chennai, and to introduce seaplanes on a full scale. The Rishikonda Palace will be developed to serve the needs of the public, he added.

Autorickshaw union plans to launch app to tackle refusal menace in Mumbai

The Mumbai Rickshawmen's Union on Sunday announced its plan to launch an app aimed at combating the refusal menace. The app will assure commuters of a ride and allow autorickshaw bookings while ensuring payment is made only by the RTO-approved meter. Union leader Thampy Kurien, who proposed the idea to the transport department , is set to demonstrate it to officials at Mantralaya this week. "Unlike Ola and Uber, our app will not calculate fares that are low, very high, or dynamic in nature. It will merely book an auto and ensure pickup from your doorstep or wherever you are waiting. After the pickup, the driver will flag down the meter and take you to the destination, collecting the actual fare as per the meter, " Kurien told TOI. The union is also considering introducing a convenience charge, potentially a nominal Rs 5 per trip for app usage. It will seek MMRTA approval for any fare above the RTO-approved meter fare, said Kurien. He explained that the app's necessity arises after a series of refusals by auto drivers. Police statistics indicate there were nearly 4.7 lakh challans in 2024 for refusals by autos and taxis, with auto refusals accounting for over 70%. A senior transport official said they will review the app and, if it proves beneficial to commuters and auto drivers, there should be no issue in granting clearance. Kurien further indicated that he plans to challenge Ola and Uber autorickshaws operations in the city in Bombay high court. These vehicles do not operate by the meter despite drivers possessing state badges and permits, which require that vehicles function "only by the meter". Uber and Ola officials were unavailable for comment. Kurien also plans to petition the transport department to regulate autorickshaw operations outside railway stations. "At present, there are three different groups of autos – one which stands in queue and picks up passengers with no questions asked, the other which picks up while on the go, and a third group of cartel which parks autos at a distance and demands hefty share fares for popular destinations such as Linking Road, beaches, waterfronts, promenades, etc," he said. "We want govt to have a single queue outside all railway stations. If autorickshaws do not want to join this queue, they will have to drop passengers and leave the station precincts immediately. Those in queue should observe discipline and ferry all passengers – short or long distance," he added.
