BJJ legend Bia Mesquita is off to a hot start in her MMA career, and now she'll test herself in the sport's premier organization.
Mesquita (5-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is a 10-time world champion in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and is regarded as one of the discipline's best female practitioners ever.
She'll debut at the UFC Fight Night event on Oct. 11 at Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro against Irina Alekseeva in a three-round bantamweight bout.
Two people with knowledge of the matchup recently informed MMA Junkie of the booking but asked to remain anonymous as the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. Brazilian journalist Leo Guimaraes first reported the booking Wednesday.
Mesquita, 34, made her pro MMA debut in June 2024. She quickly rattled off five finishes in as many fights, including a second-round knockout of Sierra Dinwoodie in June 2025 to earn the LFA women's bantamweight title.
Alekseeva (5-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) won her debut against Stephanie Egger by first-round kneebar but has since dropped back-to-back unanimous decisions to Melissa Mullins and Klaudia Sygula.

Lionel Messi's bodyguard suspended in latest controversy

Lionel Messi's bodyguard is once again embroiled in controversy. Yassine Cheuko will be suspended from all technical areas for the remainder of the Leagues Cup after an incident during Inter Miami's game against Atlas on Wednesday night. 'After the July 30 Inter Miami CF vs. Club Atlas match, a member of Inter Miami's club delegation displayed improper conduct by entering restricted areas without an official event credential,' the Leagues Cup disciplinary committee said in a press release. The individual was reported to be Cheuko by ESPN. Advertisement Cheuko, an ex-MMA fighter who has been Messi's personal bodyguard since the megastar's time at Paris Saint-Germain, went onto the field after Wednesday's match to break up a discussion between players from the two teams. Afterward, Atlas player Matheus Doria said the bodyguard's actions were uncalled for. Lionel Messi during Inter Miami's Leagues Cup match against Atlas on Wednesday. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect 'We already know that our board works very well and will take care of the issue. I understand that Messi's bodyguard is there to protect Messi from a possible entry by a fan, I don't know, but between players, he doesn't have that permission,' Doria said. Advertisement 'It's not up to us to say much or give our opinion on the matter, but the board and those in charge of the Leagues Cup have already seen it and will take charge of what can and can't be done because as long as it protects not only Messi but the other players, and the physical integrity of the players who are there, that's fine. But if it's for other issues, no one will agree, but it's not up to me to do anything.' In April, Cheuko was banned by Inter Miami from being on the sidelines during MLS matches, although he remained a member of the club's security team.

2025 PFL 8 video: Frederik Dupras puts Nathan Kelly to sleep as referee misses tap

Frederik Dupras, take a bow. At 2025 PFL World Tournament 8, the French-Canadian bounced back into the win column when he defeated Nathan Kelly by technical submission via guillotine choke. The fight was stopped at 4:38 of Round 2 at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. A tight guillotine choke began standing as Dupras (9-2) hopped up on Kelly (11-5) and locked in his grip. As the two eventually fell to the canvas, Kelly tapped, but the referee was not in position to see it. So Kelly's neck was squeezed for a few seconds longer before the official recognized consciousness no longer was present. Dupras bounces back from an April loss to Gabriel Braga.
