Oman-UAE Railway Project Picks Up Pace: $2.5 Billion Network To Boost Trade And Connectivity

Work on the UAE-Oman Rail Network project is progressing steadily, with heavy earthmovers and other equipment already deployed to lay railway tracks. In a tweet, Hafeet Rail stated: 'With confident steps, we bridge the gap and build a future that brings us together. Every day brings new progress on the path to connecting the UAE and the Sultanate of Oman via the Hafeet Railway Network.' Hafeet Rail is the company tasked with developing and operating the Oman-UAE rail link. The project, valued at around $2.5 billion (approximately 960 million Omani rials), is a strategic milestone in establishing a unified transport and logistics network, offering both economic and social benefits to the two nations. The railway will connect five ports and industrial zones across Oman and the UAE. Each freight train journey is expected to carry more than 15,000 tonnes of goods — roughly equivalent to 270 standard containers. Travel time between Abu Dhabi and Sohar will be reduced to 100 minutes, with freight trains reaching speeds of up to 120 km/h. Passenger trains will operate at speeds of up to 200 km/h, accommodating up to 400 passengers per journey. The railway will span 238 km and include 60 bridges and tunnels stretching over 2.5 kilometers. This landmark project supports Oman Vision 2040 and the UAE Centennial 2071. By linking Sohar Port to the UAE rail network, the project is expected to create a vital trade corridor, boosting the region's role as a strategic hub for transport and logistics services.

The Sustainable City - Yiti, the region's first city committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2040, has marked a significant milestone with the groundbreaking ceremony for its new hotel. This development aligns with the city's mission to create a sustainable, live-work-thrive community while advancing Oman's Vision 2040, the developer said. The event was attended by senior representatives from Diamond Developers, Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran Group), and other key stakeholders, to celebrate the commencement of construction. The four-star property will have 203 keys, including guest rooms and suites, as well as wheelchair-accessible rooms. The hotel will feature a range of facilities – including restaurants, a fitness club, a spa and wellness center, two meeting rooms and more. 'We are excited to break ground on this significant development, an integral part of our strategy to position The Sustainable City - Yiti as a world-class destination and a hub for sustainable living,' said Mahmoud Shehada, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at The Sustainable City – Yiti. 'This project exemplifies our commitment to delivering sustainability-focused infrastructure that serves both residents and visitors. The hotel will also integrate eco-friendly features to ensure harmony with its surroundings. The addition of this new hotel represents a key step in establishing The Sustainable City - Yiti's appeal as a vibrant, sustainable destination for residents and visitors alike. Beyond premium hospitality, the project aims to bolster Oman's tourism sector, create numerous job opportunities, and showcase the nation's leadership in sustainable development. On track to start handovers by 2026, The Sustainable City - Yiti has already sold out of phase one of residential properties and with this vital community component, has kicked off the next phase of development. Once complete, the city will accommodate approximately 10,000 residents and visitors, setting a regional benchmark for eco-friendly urban living. The city will feature state-of-the-art facilities, urban farming, a central plaza with a mall, school and nursery, an indoor sports complex, access to a wide range of outdoor recreational activities, an equestrian centre, and an additional hotel. - TradeArabia News Service
