Hurricanes Predicted to Trade For All-Star to Bolster Roster
The Carolina Hurricanes came up short in the Eastern Conference Final once again and are heading into the offseason with some questions. Carolina has the tools to be very successful, but they seem to be missing one piece of the puzzle.

This could see the front office be very active this summer, and it could mean big-game hunting. There are a few star players who could be available via the trade market, and Carolina could be primed to make a move.
NHL writer Adam Gretz of Bleacher Report listed the Hurricanes as a landing spot for Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson. There have been reports out about Dallas being willing to move Robertson this summer.
"Just months after the Hurricanes and Stars completed a blockbuster trade involving Mikko Rantanen, let's put them together for another blockbuster involving Robertson...the Hurricanes are loaded with future first-round picks, largely due to getting a pair of them from Dallas in the Rantanen trade. This could be an opportunity for Dallas to get one of them back, while also adding some serious young talent into the orgnaization," Gretz wrote.

The two sides have shown the ability to make a deal before, and they could link up once again.

Robertson could be exactly what the Hurricanes need to finally get them over the hump. His ability as both a passer and scorer could be the missing ingredient for the Hurricanes.
This past season, Robertson scored 35 goals and 45 assists for Dallas. If the Stars are serious about trading him, the Hurricanes should look to make a legitimate offer.

Luka Doncic Blamed for Ending LeBron James' Era in Los Angeles
Luka Doncic Blamed for Ending LeBron James' Era in Los Angeles originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There is never a dull moment in Los Angeles. As one of the most historic franchises in the NBA, the Lakers are always under the microscope. The franchise is set to change owners in a $10 billion transaction, while on the court, the Lakers are entering a new era with superstar guard Luka Doncic at the controls. Advertisement Doncic becoming the leading man in LA means that LeBron James is a supporting actor for the first time in his legendary career. The four-time NBA champion picked up his player option to return to the Lakers next season, but agent Rich Paul has made it clear that James will be watching to see which corresponding moves the team makes in free agency. As the Lakers move forward into a new era with Doncic at the helm, James seems to be contemplating the possibility that his record-breaking career could end with another franchise. And according to ESPN's Tim Bontemps, this is perhaps the best-case scenario for the Lakers. "The moment the Lakers made that trade, the LeBron James era in Los Angeles ended," Bontemps said Wednesday on "First Take." Advertisement Once the Lakers completed the Doncic deal with the Dallas Mavericks on Feb. 2, general manager Rob Pelinka's next move was to acquire a springy center who could play with Doncic. And even though the Lakers did not like the medical report on the Charlotte Hornets' Mark Williams, the message was clear: Los Angeles was no longer building around James and his skillset. "The fact that (James) is on an expiring contract, that's the best thing that the Lakers could have," Bontemps said. "What matters to them is making sure Luka Doncic has his priorities set, not LeBron James." Beginning next month, Doncic can sign a four-year extension in Los Angeles worth $229 million, or he can hit the market as a coveted free agent in 2026. Given that the Lakers are building their team around him, it stands to reason that Doncic will look favorably on the extension - and, perhaps, cast James' future with the franchise into further doubt. New Ryder Cup Announcement Made on Wednesday in Latest Golf News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Ryder Cup's 2025 edition at Bethpage Black is shaping up to be a landmark event for Team USA. As of now, the top six players in the points standings are Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, J.J. Spaun, Russell Henley, Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas. Advertisement Among them, only Scheffler has secured his spot through automatic point qualification. The other spots will be secured after the BMW Championship in August. Captain Keegan Bradley, officially named USA skipper on July 8, 2024, previously appointed four experienced vice captains — Webb Simpson, Brandt Snedeker, Kevin Kisner and Jim Furyk — for the U.S. side. On Wednesday, Bradley revealed his fifth and final vice captain, announcing 2019 U.S. Open champion Gary Woodland will head to Bethpage as part of the leadership team. Woodland has shown remarkable resilience, most notably returning from brain surgery in 2023 to earn the PGA Tour Courage Award in February 2025. He will be a valuable leader for us over the coming months and throughout the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black." Woodland was thankful for the opportunity. He was quick to show his gratitude to the U.S. captain and Travelers Championship winner. "I am extremely excited and grateful to Keegan for the opportunity to support the U.S. Team at the 2025 Ryder Cup,' said Woodland. 'Keegan's passion for this event is contagious and I am thrilled to be a part of it." "With just over two months to go until we arrive at Bethpage, I am fully committed to doing everything I can to help Keegan as well as our team of vice captains and players." he added. Daniel Ricciardo Embraces ‘Slow Lane' Life After F1 Exit
Daniel Ricciardo Embraces 'Slow Lane' Life After F1 Exit originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Daniel Ricciardo's trademark grin is still as bright as ever. Only now, it's beaming from a karting track rather than the cockpit of a Formula 1 car. At 36, the Australian star is settling into what he cheekily calls 'the slow lane,' embracing a more laid-back chapter after an unceremonious exit from F1 last year. Advertisement Ricciardo's once-promising return with AlphaTauri (now VCARB) in 2023 seemed a chance to rebuild his career. But after a wrist-breaking crash at Zandvoort, followed by a string of poor performances in 2024, he was replaced after Singapore by Liam Lawson. With no seat lined up, Ricciardo quietly stepped back from the spotlight. Aside from the occasional Instagram post and sponsor cameo, he kept a low profile, leaving fans wondering about how he was truly handling life off the grid. Now we have our answer. At a recent Daniel Ricciardo Series karting event at Buckmore Park, Ricciardo opened up revealing he's more than content with how things have turned out. Daniel Ricciardo in the pit lane during the practice Bolte-Imagn Images 'I'm just enjoying some life in the slow lane,' he laughed, describing the joy of reconnecting the grassroots side of racing. "I mean, it sounds weird saying like retirement when I'm 35 years old, but retirement from at least the world I was living in. So it's cool, you know, to be at the kart track. It's my first time at a racetrack in since, I guess, Singapore, so since quite a few months now," he further added. Advertisement It's a far cry from the relentless pressure of chasing podiums and contracts in F1, but Ricciardo seems genuinely at peace and still very much in love with motorsport. For fans who remember his electric overtakes and infectious personality, it's a bittersweet turn. But seeing Ricciardo light up the kart track stress-free and surrounded by young racers inspired by him is a reminder that there's life beyond F1's brutal calendar. Even if it's a few mph slower.
