Louth village's sporting stars return for old school fundraiser
GAA All Star Craig Lennon, along with the 2025 G4D Open winner, pro golfer Brendan Lawlor will be in attendance at the St Mochtas NS Fun Day.
The fun day, which was first held in 2023, makes a welcome return to the St Mochtas NS grounds at Feran Drive, Louth Village, and this year unveils a partnership with the Louth Abbey Vintage Club.
School principal Paddy Martin said the whole community is looking forward to the event, following the phenomenal success of the fun day in 2023. The funds raised will go directly towards the provision of an inclusive playground for the school and the event is being organised by the school's Parents' Association.
Mr Martin said: 'We are extremely lucky to have a brilliant partnership with the Louth Abbey Vintage Club this year and we are particularly delighted to have two former pupils, Craig and Brendan, in attendance.
'Brendan has been a trailblazer in the world of disabled gold and became the first disabled golfer to compete on the DP World Tour when he took part in the British Championship on 2020. This year, he won the G4D Open.
'Craig has been a massive part of the Leinster Final-winning Louth team and he will be bringing the Delaney Cup with him on the day, so that people can see it and get their pictures taken with it.
'In addition, the u20 Leinster cup will be there'.
Attendees will also be treated to many attractions for children and families including pony rides, amusements, yoga, a pets' corner, dancing performances, St Mochtas GFC, magic, stalls, facepainting, refreshments and much more. All the school staff are involved in running events on the day.
Mr Martin said: 'In 2023, the fun day proved to be a wonderful community occasion and this year, we are making it even bigger and better. We really appreciate the support and sponsorship of the local community who have made a huge contribution in putting the event together'.
The St Mochtas NS Fun Day takes place on Sunday June 22 from 1pm to 5pm and everyone is welcome to attend.
