Jim Goodwin expects more from Dundee United after European progression
Tannadice boss Goodwin was not fooled by what was an historic result, the first away from home in Europe since 1997.
He told BBC Scotland: 'I didn't realise it had been nearly 30 years since we won away from home in Europe.
'It's a great result for this new group of players. Any game away from home in Europe is extremely difficult, there are no easy ties.
'On paper people would have looked at the game and thought it should be straightforward but Strassen were technically very good.
'They're no mugs so we're delighted with the result and clean sheet but we know we have to improve. We were really untidy on the ball, maybe that was a case of nerves.
'Over the two ties I don't think anybody could argue we deserved to go through.
'Neither performance was perfect, we've got a lot to learn and we need to do it quickly.
'There are definitely things we need to brush up on. We were very untidy on the ball.
'When we did play and pass the ball quickly we got into dangerous areas but [Yevhenii] Kucherenko, over the two legs, has had very little to do.'

An All-Rookie in his first season with New Hampshire after putting up 20 goals and 33 points in 40 games, Grasso would establish himself as a key member of the Wildcats during his five years with the team, which included being named alternate captain in his final two years. And that scoring touch would continue into the professional ranks, the Iowa native turning his hand to the full-time game in 2021 in a season split between the AHL's Utica Comets and ECHL's Adirondack Thunder, the latter of whom he would excel for in scoring 26 goals and 50 points in 68 games. Grasso would continue to thrive in Adirondack over the next two years, earning brief call-ups to the AHL's Comets and Cleveland Monsters and being named the team's captain for the 2023/24 season, and he would be named to the ECHL All-Star Team in 2024 after a 21-goal, 33-point season. That earned him the move to Austria where he had an outstanding first season in Europe, notching 21 goals and 35 points in 45 games for a struggling Innsbruck side before finishing the year in Västerås. 'We're really excited to bring Patrick to Belfast,' added head coach Keefe. 'He's a high energy player with great offensive instincts and a strong work ethic. He's proven that he can produce at a high level and put the puck in the net. We believe he'll be a key contributor for us this season."

Jim Goodwin admits Dundee United have to improve their possession game when they open up their Premiership campaign away to Falkirk on Sunday. The Terrors moved through to the Conference League third qualifier against Austrian side Rapid Vienna with a 2-0 aggregate win over UNA Strassen in Luxembourg on Thursday night. A second-half header from Moldova defender Iurie Iovu – his first for the Tayside club – gave the unconvincing visitors a narrow 1-0 win but Goodwin admitted some flaws in the performances in both legs which will need to be rectified against the Bairns. The Tannadice boss told the club's official X account: 'These ties are never straightforward, but I think the fact that we've been able to keep two clean sheets was really important. 'Defensively, the back three and the goalkeeper again, were excellent. 'They've played right through pre-season there and haven't conceded a goal when the four of them have played, which is important. 'But we know we have to do better in possession. That's the bottom line. 'I think against better teams, if you turn over possession as cheaply as what we did, you'll get punished, and that's against Falkirk on Sunday and against Rapid Vienna next week.' Ferry knows Utd must 'get better quickly' before 'massive' Rapid tie
"We made it a lot harder than we wanted", said full-back Will Ferry after Dundee United squeezed past UNA Iurie Iovu's header gave United victory in Luxembourg as they advanced 2-0 on aggregate to a Conference League third-round qualifier against Rapid Vienna."We're not happy necessarily in our performance and we probably should have managed the game a little bit better, but we know what we need to improve on," Ferry told BBC Scotland."A win's a win so we're happy. We're obviously a new group, we know we need to get better quickly and we're going to work hard to do that."You can see little improvements. We know we're not there yet, but we're starting to gel."Ferry is relishing the "massive" meeting with Rapid Vienna, with United travelling to Austria for next Thursday's first leg after opening their Scottish Premiership campaign on Sunday at newly-promoted Falkirk."Rapid are obviously a big club, but we're going to go there and treat it like any other game," said the 24-year-old."We'll always back ourselves and we know that if we put up our performance we've always got a chance."
