Ahmad Zahid urges separation of legal and political issues for unity
Ahmad Zahid, who is also UMNO president, emphasised that legal violations must be addressed through the justice system, while political disputes should be resolved within party frameworks.
'We do not want any incident to force a political decision to be made, as this could shake the unity among the 18 parties in the MADANI Government. In my view, we must separate legal matters from political matters,' he told reporters.
He made these remarks after officiating the 'Program Santunan Desa' organised by the Community Development Department (KEMAS) in Perak.
The event was held in collaboration with Village Development and Security Committees (JPKK) and KEMAS communities.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, urged all parties to respect internal decisions to maintain cohesion among coalition members.

KOTA KINABALU (Aug 17): It is now essentially confirmed that Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya will contest under the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) banner in the upcoming state elections. GRS chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, in his speech at the Anak Muda N22/N23/N24 2025 programme in Putatan on Sunday, voiced the coalition's aim to capture all three state seats in the Putatan parliamentary constituency — Tanjung Keramat, Petagas and Tanjung Aru. When asked whether Shahelmey would contest under the Barisan Nasional (BN) ticket, Hajiji, who is also Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) president, replied: ''Dia ikut' (he will follow) 'siurang' (us in Sabahan slang).' Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin maintains Shahelmey remains part of Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) and has repeatedly stated Umno will not renominate him. Meanwhile, Hajiji emphasised the state government's continued commitment to safeguarding the interests of youths in Sabah, noting that youth development is one of the pillars of the Sabah Maju Jaya agenda. 'Youths are not merely beneficiaries, but also agents of change. In a world full of challenges, young people must be leaders of community harmony, guardians of cultural heritage, and supporters of technological progress,' he said. Hajiji said that between 2021 and 2025, a total of 14 new youth-focused initiatives have been introduced with allocations of RM164.14 million, benefitting over 210,000 students. He added that the government has also implemented youth grants, skills training, innovation and entrepreneurship programmes to provide young people with platforms to grow. At the event, Hajiji presented the Young People Programme grant worth RM300,000 to youth NGOs in Tanjung Aru, Petagas and Tanjung Keramat.

Keep legal, political issues separate to safeguard unity government, says Zahid
PASIR SALAK: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has advised all political leaders to distinguish between legal and political matters to preserve harmony within the unity government. Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno president, said that legal action must be taken in cases of law violations, while political disputes should be resolved through proper political channels. Arrest of military officers over smuggling racket tarnishes country's image, says Zahid
PASIR SALAK: The security of the country remains intact despite the recent arrest of five military officers for their suspected involvement in a smuggling racket, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said. The arrest of the five officers from the Malaysian Defence Intelligence Organisation (MDIO), Zahid said, although damaging the nation's image, should serve as a strong warning to all enforcement agencies to avoid such misconduct. " It (security) is not compromised, but the (country's) image has been tarnished. "This must be avoided and fully understood by them," Zahid said in his speech after launching the Santunan Desa programme here today. Present were Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang and Community Development Department (KEMAS) Director-General Datuk Mohd Hanafiah Man. Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said he supported the action taken against the suspects as announced by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin. "It is not just about being an informant but being directly involved. If this is indeed the case, it must be stopped because it concerns the image of the armed forces. "More so for those of us in positions of trust, we must act responsibly and not use rank, position, or authority in a defence or security force to engage in unlawful activities," he said. It was reported that the five military officers and five civilians were recently arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) during an operation to dismantle a drug and contraband smuggling syndicate involving senior armed forces officers in the southern region.
