Marzuki rebuts Rafizi's claim: PN did offer DPM post and cabinet roles to BN after GE15
FORMER PKR Deputy President Rafizi Ramli claimed that PN did not offer any positions to BN during post-GE15 negotiations and that PN leader Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin looked down on UMNO. However, former Political Secretary to the eighth Prime Minister, Datuk Dr Marzuki Mohamad, has now countered Rafizi's claims by revealing a letter proving that PN did offer BN the Deputy Prime Minister post, Cabinet positions, and other government roles. Marzuki insisted that negotiations were cordial, Muhyiddin never belittled UMNO, and it was Rafizi who was lying about what truly happened in those discussions. 'I watched a podcast video by Rafizi claiming that PN did not make any offer to BN during the negotiations to form a government after GE15. 'In fact, he claimed Tan Sri Muhyiddin looked down on UMNO. He said he had an insider in the PN-BN negotiations at Hotel St Regis on 23 November 2022. 'I don't know if he really had an insider or not. Brother Rafizi, you are lying,' he said in a Facebook post on Saturday. Marzuki emphasised that he wasn't merely an insider but was directly involved in the negotiations from beginning to end. He described the discussions with BN as having taken place in a friendly and respectful atmosphere. 'Not once did Muhyiddin belittle UMNO. Moreover, those who attended were all his friends from UMNO and BN. They spoke like friends too. 'Secondly, in any negotiation, there must be offers. The BN delegation came with the offer of BN MPs giving 'en-bloc' support to Muhyiddin as Prime Minister. 'In return, PN offered the Deputy Prime Minister post to BN, Cabinet positions according to the number of parliamentary seats won, and several other matters,' he said. —July 20, 2025 Main image: Sinar Harian

Mixed thoughts prevail among Malays, non-Malays to PMX's unreadiness to step down
SUCH seems to be the scenario if comments to two separate NST Online Facebook postings entitled Anwar: I Will Not Step Down and ' I Will Not Step Down' – PM Anwar on Calls for His Resignation can be translated into a poll. While the Malays tend to believe that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim should be shown the exit door soonest for having failed to live up with expectations, non-Malays feel that PMX should at least be allowed to complete his full term till Malaysians go to the national polls again come the 16th General Election (GE16). The mixed reaction follows PMX's reiteration that he would not step down from his post despite calls for him to do so by the opposition. ' Insya Allah , I will not step down. If I steal the people's money, then they can call for me to step down. But I didn't do so,' he said in his speech at the ground-breaking ceremony of Kompleks Madani Teluk Kumbar in Penang yesterday (July 19). 'All government contracts go through an open tender process.' Added PMX who is also the Finance Minister: 'If they (detractors) have enough numbers, they can bring a vote (of no confidence). That is the way. 'They can pull support from any MPt to support them. If I lose, I will step down nicely. That is the peaceful way. 'If not, they can wait until the next election. When that will be (the general election), I haven't announced yet.' At a glance, it can be assumed that the Malays are more rebellious in their view of PMX as many belong to the opposition camp, hence are swayed by the opposition's propaganda amid the upcoming PAS-inspired 'Turun Anwar' on July 26 (Saturday). This aside, many UMNO members at the grassroots level have also grown disgruntled with their party leadership which has comprised its 'No DAP, No Anwar' stance by having forged the much chastised 'UMDAP' alliance. To make matters worse, the recent PKR central leadership polls have further split the key Pakatan Harapan (PH) party into two , namely the Damai faction of deputy president-elect Nurul Izzah Anwar and the Hiruk faction of incumbent deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli. Against such backdrop, it is not surprising for detractors to offer feedback like 'People hate PMX more than they hated Rosmah (alluding to wife of incarcerated former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak) or 'He should step down as he failed as PM and not able to demo good role model as a leader'. On the other hand, non-Malays tend to opine that even if push comes to shove, PMX should at least be given an opportunity to helm Malaysia till GE16. Their justification ranges from there are no successor in sight, that he remains the best man for the job or in short, they still have faith in his quest to combat corruption. At the end of the day, what is sure is that PMX has 29 months on his side to initiate a turnaround that would restore the faith of Malaysians in him after a slew of miscalculations that have led to a build-up of trust deficit in him and his Madani administration . The clock ticking. – July 20, 2025

PAS claims Pahang is set to vote for PN in the next GE
PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man claims public support in Pahang for PAS and Perikatan Nasional (PN) has significantly increased, indicating voters are ready to choose PN as the state government in the upcoming 16th General Election (GE16). 'This development is not only evident from the encouraging attendance at various grassroots programmes, but it is also supported by independent studies and on-the-ground observations. 'Moreover, we can see that the people are increasingly rejecting any explanations or statements by the government on various issues,' he said in a statement. The Cheka assemblyman Tuan Ibrahim also claims young voters, civil servants, and rural communities are increasingly rejecting the UMNO-Pakatan Harapan state government, forcing it to work harder to prove its competence. Backing the claims by the PAS leader, Pahang PAS information chief Ustaz Aireroshairi Roslan, stressed that UMNO must mentally prepare to become the opposition after the GE16, following the increasing public support for PAS from GE13 to GE15. He also said the 'PAS Leads Pahang' slogan taunted as mere rhetoric by UMNO shows that the ruling party is still in denial and refuses to accept the reality of the changing political landscape in the state. 'The strong public response to this tagline proves that the people are ready for a leadership change that is cleaner and more trustworthy,' he said in a statement, adding that UMNO is riddled with internal crises and leadership turmoil while PAS has strengthened party machinery. On the other hand, he also said the cooperation between DAP and Umno is now a heavy liability for the Malay party. 'How can UMNO claim to fight for the Malay agenda when they are willing to collaborate with a party that has always opposed the special position of the Malays?' he questioned. — July 19, 2025 Main photo credit: Bernama

Tun Dr Mahathir Calls For Anwar's Resignation, Says 'No Need To Wait For Elections'
Subscribe to our FREE Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has called for the current Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to resign immediately, citing his alleged lack of governance ability and the various problems facing the country. Speaking at a political rally titled 'Himpunan Mandat Negarawan' (Statesmen's Mandate Gathering) held at Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium in Alor Setar on Thursday evening (17 July), Mahathir emphasised that while prime ministerial positions typically change through general elections, there are precedents in multiple countries where prime ministers have voluntarily resigned due to public pressure. 'I myself resigned from the prime ministerial position due to party pressure. Now Anwar faces even broader public opposition, so he should resign immediately,' Mahathir said during his speech. The 100-year-old former leader argued that resignation should not wait for elections, stating: 'If the people are dissatisfied, the prime minister should resign.' International Examples Cited Mahathir provided several international examples to support his argument, including that of former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who resigned following public anger over COVID-19 regulation violations. Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stepped down following large-scale public protests, and Japanese prime ministers, who traditionally resign when facing misconduct, do so without waiting for elections. 'As prime minister, one should consider the people's feelings,' he said. The former premier criticised Anwar's governance, alleging the mismanagement of national wealth and the cancellation of various subsidies provided to the people, which led to public hardship. 'Today, everyone has gathered here because we face the same problem – our country is wealthy, but the people remain poor. This is clearly the result of incompetent governance,' Mahathir stated. He claimed that many Malaysians currently face food insecurity and that some people, under tremendous pressure, have lost their sanity and resorted to suicide or violence against family members, attributing these issues to poverty. Old Wounds, New Battles Mahathir noted that people have organised various gatherings to express dissatisfaction with the current government and to pressure Anwar to resign from his position as Prime Minister. The rally represents the latest in a series of political challenges facing Anwar's administration since he assumed the role of prime minister. The relationship between Mahathir and Anwar has been marked by turbulence, stemming from political rivalry and a complicated history that includes periods of both partnership and conflict. The animosity is rooted in envy and the fear of political replacement, particularly during the early days of their time in UMNO, where Mahathir felt threatened by Anwar's rising popularity. Anwar had previously expressed regret that Mahathir never changed, highlighting the enduring nature of their political differences despite their shared history in Malaysian politics. 'This matter has already been referred to the court,' says Anwar on Najib's house arrest request
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government would not intervene in the legal process involving the Titah Adendum related to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's sentence. 'This matter has already been referred to the court,' he said to the media after Friday prayers at Surau Al Istiqlal, Precinct 14. Anwar added that while he understood UMNO's concerns, the judiciary must be allowed to handle the matter independently. 'I am open to meeting with UMNO leadership to provide clarification and help maintain harmony,' he said. Yesterday, 145 UMNO Division Chiefs from across the country — including from Sabah — urged the Prime Minister to take full responsibility and promptly implement the Titah Adendum, which would allow Najib to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest. They stressed that the order had already received the consent of the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, and therefore, there should be no further delay in its enforcement. Last week, the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) was reported to have not disputed the existence of the Titah Adendum, said to be a royal decree by the former King permitting Najib to complete his sentence under house arrest. Instead, the AGC questioned the procedure used to submit the royal decree as new evidence in Najib's ongoing judicial review application at the High Court. Najib has been serving his sentence at Kajang Prison since August 23, 2022, after being convicted of misappropriating RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd. He filed a royal pardon petition on September 2, 2022. The Pardons Board later reduced his jail term from 12 years to six, while his fine was lowered from RM210 million to RM50 million.
