Clack, A Mind Full of Murder by Derek Landy and The Things We Leave Behind by Clare Furniss.Councillor Hayley Coles, cabinet member for communities and culture, said thousands of young readers and library staff looked forward to the event each year.She said getting to meet their favourite authors could be "inspirational" for pupils."It's all about encouraging a love of books and reading," she added."Young people tell us that taking part makes them feel part of a wider reading community that goes beyond the school book club."

Love Island winner and YouTube star among first batch of Strictly contestants
A YouTube star, a Love Island winner and an EastEnders actress are among the first batch of contestants announced for Strictly Come Dancing 2025. The popular BBC dancing show, hosted by Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, will return to TV screens in September with a new host of famous faces competing each week to win the glitterball trophy. Clarke, also known as George Clarkey, said: 'Never thought I'd say this … but I'm doing Strictly! Honestly, I've got no idea what I'm doing but I'm excited to get stuck in … and potentially fall over a fair bit.' It comes after EastEnders actress Balvinder Sopal was revealed as a contestant during a segment filmed live from Albert Square on ITV's Good Morning Britain (GMB). Calvin Harris has revealed his heartbreak after his much-loved cockerel Smokey was savagely killed by his neighbours' dogs. The superstar DJ, 41, took to Instagram on Tuesday to share the sad news, posting a photo of himself holding the bird before the incident took place. Alongside the snap, Calvin - who was holding Smokey in the grounds of what appeared to be his Cotswolds home - wrote: 'Raised this lad from a chick to a majestic cockerel. 'Murdered by the idiot neighbours' grimey dogs. 'Absolutely gutted.' The music star added at the top of the story, set to Smokey Robinson & The Miracles' track My Love For You, which read: 'RIP Smokey we love you,' with a sad face emoji. I ordered summer essential from Temu that's perfect for the heatwave – but I was stunned when it arrived
A BARGAIN hunter thought he'd found the perfect thirst-quencher for the heatwave - but what arrived was a mega fail. Health alerts have come into force around the UK as temperatures could hit 34C during the fourth heatwave of the summer. 4 4 So it's the perfect time to snap up a paddling pool or electric fan to keep cool. For savvy shopper Lee, he'd attempted to buy ice lolly moulds to create some icy snacks during the sizzling temperatures. But he didn't want to spend too much on the kitchen gadget so decided to head to Temu to grab a bargain. The online retailer is well known for its cut-price deals and had a four-piece ice lolly mould on offer for just £1.02 which fitted the bill. But when it came, Lee was left in hysterics. Unlike the pictures on the Temu site, the moulds were barely bigger than his thumb in real life - with people joking he'll have to use them as ice cubes instead. Taking to Facebook, he said: "Ever wondered why Temu never have a banana for scale? Behold my new ice lolly mould. "Tiny, tiny lollies - half the joy of a Temu order is the disappointment when it arrives. "Damn you to the pits of Hades Temu!" The post soon went viral on the Dull Men's Club Facebook group, which boasts two million members, and people had plenty to say in the comments. I thought I'd bagged a bargain bookshelf on Temu but I was not prepared for what turned up Many pointed out that he made the common mistake of ignoring the item description. If he had read it through, Lee may have noticed the dimensions clearly read points out that the lolly moulds are only 3in tall. Others were simply amused by the miniature buy. One wrote: "Oh my god are these for literal babies for heatwaves as a tiny berry juice snack. Or maybe a guinea pig or bunny or tiny dog." "Deceived again by the undersized products", said another. 4 A third added: "They could come in handy when you just want a wee snack and not a full sized Lolly. Or you could freeze lolly shots filled with your beverage of choice." "Just use them as ice cubes", chimed in a fourth. A fourth joked: "I was expecting them even tinier, like doll house scale or something." Meanwhile, a sixth admitted: "Some things I've ordered have been I get on and order forget to check measurements and this happens." Why is Temu so cheap? TEMU exploded onto the scene in late 2022, with people all over social media raving about the low prices. The company is a Chinese-owned digital marketplace - essentially an online shopping app where people are connected to the retailer directly while the app takes care of the shipping element. The frenzy over the app is not completely unfounded either as it offers a wide variety of products, including fashion, make-up, electronics and furniture. According to a report from the US House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, Temu takes advantage of a trade loophole that allows the company to ship duty-free goods directly to the US. The loophole is called the de minimis exception and it means they can ship goods valued up to $800 (£643) to the US without it being inspected or taxed by US customs. Temu connects customers directly to manufacturers and only manages how the items are sent to customers. It means Chinese vendors can essentially sell their products directly to customers and ship it without building a network of warehouses across the globe. By doing this, they cut down on huge costs and ensure the product itself isn't marked up extra. While many of the products seen on the Temu app are from brands with extensive, original collections, many more are dupes of designer brands.
