Did Virat Kohli-AB de Villiers Have A Mini Breakup? Proteas Legend Makes Big Reveal
Last Updated:
AB de Villiers has revealed that Virat Kohli ignored him for months after he disclosed Anushka Sharma's pregnancy.
Former South Africa cricketer AB de Villiers has revealed that Virat Kohli didn't speak to him for a while after he disclosed that the latter and his wife Anushka Sharma were expecting their second child, while speaking on an YouTube show, which seemingly didn't go down well with Kohli.
De Villiers let things slip in February last year, while on a YouTube live, saying that Anushka was pregnant with her second child with Kohli.
The news came as a massive announcement for fans, as the pregnancy had been kept under wraps by both Kohli and Anushka.
De Villiers has opened up on the matter and said that an angry Kohli had ignored him for multiple months.
'I know we were in the same boat because we spoke about it. He's been in touch with me over the last six months. Thank goodness, because I did have a bit of a footfall not so long ago when they were expecting their second child (De Villiers had publicly announced it before Kohli)," De Villiers said while speaking to Cricket.com.
'So I was very relieved when he started talking to me again. So he was talking about… We all know he went through a bit of a patch and sort of wanted to bounce a few ideas off me, how I get through certain moments of my life," De Villiers added.
The former South Africa cricketer said that he supported Kohli with all his heart and hoped that the latter had a lot more ODIs left in him.
'And I support him 100% with that. He's had a wonderful career and I want him to enjoy his cricket until the very last ball. And if that is the way forward for him, then great, I'm right behind him," De Villiers said.
After RCB's IPL 2025 win, Kohli embraced the former South Africa cricketer, who was in the stands in Ahmedabad to support the franchise.
In the moment of victory, Kohli ensured that two of RCB's biggest stalwarts, De Villiers and Chris Gayle, were in front of the celebrations.

"He taught me to never rely on shortcuts or influence": Virat Kohli's emotional Father's Day tribute to his late father
New Delhi [India], June 15 (ANI): On the occasion of Father's Day, Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli shared a heartfelt tribute to his late father, Prem Kohli, reflecting on the values and strength he inherited from him. In a deeply personal message he posted on Sunday, Kohli opened up about a pivotal moment from his childhood that shaped his approach to life and success. Kohli took to his official Instagram handle and posted a beautiful picture along with a message, 'He taught me to never rely on shortcuts or influence -- because if you truly have it in you, hard work will show if you don't have the will to work for it, then maybe you don't deserve it yet. When I was offered an easier path once, he refused it for calm conviction, he said, 'If you're good enough, you'll find your way. And if not, it's better to know that early.' That one moment shaped how I live, work, and show up in the Father's Day to all the fathers whose quiet strength becomes our lifelong compass.' The former Indian captain recounted a moment when he was once offered an easier path in life--something many would have accepted without hesitation but his father declined it on his behalf, making a decision that would go on to define Kohli's attitude toward discipline and self-belief. Virat recently bid adieu to the Test format with a heartfelt note on Instagram, days after his long-time compatriot Rohit Sharma retired from the format. Virat's 14-year journey in the whites transformed India into a result-producing machine. He infused aggression and the culture of fitness into a team riddled with youth and experience. In a career that redefined the demands of the game, Virat scored 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, with 30 centuries and 31 fifties, and finished as India's fourth-highest run-getter in the format. He recently lifted the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). (ANI)

Shubman Gill opens up on Rohit-Kohli's Test captaincy ahead of England series
London [UK], June 16 (ANI): Ahead of the five-match Test series against England, India's newly appointed Test skipper Shubman Gill shared his thoughts on stalwart batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's captaincy following their retirement from the longest format of the game. On May 7, Rohit announced his retirement from Test cricket after a career spanning 67 Tests and 11 years, ahead of the England tour, kickstarting India's ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle from June 20 onwards. On May 12, the world stood in silence after Kohli announced his decision to retire from Tests more than a month before the highly anticipated five-match Test series against the Three Lions. Speaking at an interview on Sky Sports Cricket about Rohit's Test captaincy, Gill said, 'Rohit (Sharma) bhai is also very aggressive in terms of his tactics. Tactically, he's quite an aggressive captain. He is someone who is very clear with his communication prior to the matches, during the series, and even after the series, about what he wants from the players. The kind of environment I think Rohit bhai keeps. Like, even if Rohit bhai is swearing at you, you would not take it to your heart. That's just kind of his personality. And I think that's a great trait to have. He's firm, but even if he's being hard on you, you know that it's not coming from his heart.' On May 12, the world stood in silence after Kohli announced his decision to retire from Tests more than a month before the highly anticipated five-match Test series against the Three Lions. Further speaking on Kohli's Test captaincy, Gill said, 'When I played under Virat bhai (Kohli), I think his proactiveness in the test matches with the field or with the ideas or with his thinking was something that I liked and that I picked up. He was very proactive with his thinking. If he thinks that, okay, this plan is not working, he would immediately have another plan, communicate to the bowler what he wants from them. And it can seem like he is not aggressive,' the right-hand batter added. India tour of England will take place from June to August 2025, with matches to be played at Headingley (Leeds), Edgbaston (Birmingham), Lord's (London), Old Trafford (Manchester), and The Oval (London). A new era beckons for India in the Test format as the modern-day giants gear up for their first assignment without the prized batting bigwigs Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Shubman Gill, India's youngest Test captain, has taken the baton from Rohit to guide the nation to success and challenge for the World Test Championship mace. India's Test squad for England series: Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav. Star player criticises Josh Hazlewood for choosing IPL over national duties, says...
Josh Hazlewood. (PIC - X) Former Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson has lashed out at compatriot Josh Hazlewood for prioritising the Indian Premier League over the World Test Championship final against South Africa, saying it had raised 'eyebrows'. One of Royal Challengers Bengaluru's standout bowlers, Hazlewood, 34, had rejoined the southern franchise after the IPL was temporarily suspended due to the border flare-up between India and Pakistan, even as some other Australian players decided against returning to India for the remainder of the tournament. RCB went on to defeat Punjab Kings to lift their maiden IPL trophy with Hazlewood, who ended up with 22 wickets this season, accounting for dangerous opener Priyansh Arya in the final. Hazlewood, a vital cog in the Australian pace battery in the WTC final at Lord's which South Africa won by five wickets on Saturday, could manage only two wickets. 'We've seen concerns about Hazlewood's fitness in recent years, and his decision to prioritise returning to the delayed Indian Premier League over his national team preparations raised eyebrows,' wrote Johnson, who played six IPL seasons, representing Kolkata Knight Riders, Kings XI Punjab (Punjab Kings) and Mumbai Indians, in the West Australian. Taking aim at senior players like Mitchell Starc, Hazlewood, captain Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon, among others, he said that if their aim was to prolong their send-offs till after the Ashes, it was a wrong mindset. 'Our successful 'big four' bowling attack of Mitchell Starc, Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon can't be taken for granted as a lock going forward either. 'If veteran players are sticking around just for the Ashes as a send-off, it does beg the question of whether that's the right mindset. It's crucial that we embrace the future and build confidence in selecting our next Test players,' added Johnson, who has more than 550 wickets in international cricket. He argued that players like young Sam Konstas, Josh Inglis and even 36-year-old pacer Scott Boland, who were desperate to perform for the country weren't finding a place in the national side. 'Players on the fringe such as Sam Konstas, Josh Inglis and Scott Boland, despite being 36, have a different mentality. They're eager to prove themselves every time they get a chance. 'I'm not being overly critical of an ageing team which has achieved plenty together. Our established players including the senior bowling quartet, Usman Khawaja, (Steve) Smith and (Marnus) Labuschagne, have achieved some great things.' He said that the upcoming Test series against the West Indies was the right opportunity to give deserving players an opportunity to showcase their talent. 'It's essential to consider when the right time is to make some tough calls. The upcoming three-Test Windies tour seems like an excellent opportunity to give deserving players a chance to shine, and the finger injury to Smith might have the silver lining of prompting some regeneration. 'Finding a specialist No.3 is crucial, and with the form Labuschagne has shown over the past 18 months, it's hard to justify moving him back into that position. Trying to make changes in all top-three batting slots at once would indeed be risky, and I don't think the selectors will go that route,' he argued. 'Konstas looms as a solid option for the pitches in the West Indies, especially with an experienced player in Khawaja alongside him,' he added.
