Addeen may not be able to defend national title

KUALA LUMPUR: Addeen Idrakie will only know next week whether he will be able to defend his title at the National Squash Championships in Penang from Aug 13-17.
The 31-year-old from Kuala Lumpur said he feels pain in his right shoulder if he exerts himself.
He aggravated an old injury after knocking into a player during a tournament in New Zealand last month.
"I went for an MRI scan (Tuesday) and it showed a muscle tear in my shoulder. The doctor advised me to have one week of rest.
"I will have another scan next week to determine whether I have fully recovered. If I don't recover by next week, I will skip the National Championships," said Addeen, who turned professional 13 years ago.
Addeen was out of action for five months after suffering a shoulder injury while training in February.
After recovering from the injury, he won two back-to-back titles last month — the Harcourts KDRE Morrinsville Open in New Zealand and Victorian Open in Australia.

MRI D-Day for Xin Ying

KUALA LUMPUR: Yee Xin Ying, who is down with an ankle injury, will know tomorrow if she can play in the National Squash Championships in Penang from Aug 13-17. Xin Ying said she will have an MRI scan to determine her participation in the National Championships. She has chalked up some good results this year — stunning England's world No. 40 Lucy Beecroft in the Pro RC final in Missouri and winning bronze in the Under-23 World Championships in Karachi in April.

Sanjay aims to break into world top 50

KUALA LUMPUR: After a season of up and down, squash player Sanjay Jeeva aims to break into the world's top 50. The national No. 2 achieved his highest world ranking, 58th, in March before dropping to 68th last month. Sanjay, 26, lost most of his matches either in the first or second rounds in PSA tournaments. In February, he did well to reach the semi-finals of the Goodfellow Classic in Canada. "I think the past season was mixed. I had a really good first half, beating some top players but I struggled to keep that momentum in the second half of the season. "In the new season (August, 2025 to June, 2026), I hope to be more consistent and break into the world top 50." His next tournament will be the National Championships in Penang from Aug 13-17. Sanjay will be looking to win the national title in the absence of world No. 12 and national No. 1 Ng Eain Yow, who is based in the United States.
