Jack Hinshelwood out to ‘break the mould' with England U21s and claims Young Lions aren't weighed down by past failures

JACK HINSHELWOOD says England's young guns are out to 'break the mould' and finally end 60 years of hurt next summer.
The Brighton star, 20, could get his hands on his first piece of silverware with the Three Lions on his shirt on Saturday in Bratislava.

But beating old foes Germany to record back-to-back U21 European Championship crowns is just the start of what Hinshelwood and his team-mates want to do.
Along with the 2023 group Lee Carsley led to glory before them, which included the likes of Cole Palmer and Anthony Gordon, they are dead set on conquering the world.
Hinshelwood said: 'We've got to remain humble. We're in the Under-21s. But we've got a great group and Lee always talks about how we need to break the mould of what people think of English football.
'We haven't won a major tournament for 60 plus years now. We know that we have amazing individuals in this group. Two years ago, they also had an amazing group and you see what them players are doing now.
'It's really inspiring for us and really gives us that extra motivation to want to do well and reach that level.'
Legendary names - including the famous Golden Generation - have failed to deliver for the nation.
However, Hinshelwood insists his generation is not weighed down by history.
He said: 'No, of course not. The past is in the past and there's not much we can do about it. We're all looking to the future and there's a bright future.'

Hinshelwood faces a huge year ahead - and not just on the pitch with Brighton and trying to catch Thomas Tuchel's eye.
He revealed last month that he and his girlfriend are expecting their first child.

And speaking of family, Hinshelwood himself comes from a huge footballing one.
Great-grandfather Wally Hinshelwood, his grandad Paul, great-uncle Martin and his dad Adam, manager of National League York City and who will travel out to the final, were all pro players.
Some say Hinshelwood was born to play the beautiful game - but hearing about all of his team-mates' journeys has helped create an unbreakable bond between the group.
He said: 'I've learned so much from my family and speaking to the boys here, they've got amazing families and everyone's got different journeys.

'It's nice to hear how everyone has got to this point and it brings us closer together so yeah it's really nice.
'Sometimes we don't get to see each other as much but when you're away for a tournament you get to spend good quality time with these people and get to know them and you can build great bonds. We've got a great bond off the pitch and we're now showing it on the pitch.
'This is my first international tournament, so it's great being here and I've loved every second. To get to the final is amazing, but we know we've got one more job to do now and that's to bring it home.'
Hinshelwood added: 'Right from the start we came in with a lot of belief that we can really do well in this tournament and go all the way.
'We probably didn't really show up until the quarter-finals. But these last two games we've really put in good performances and the results have followed. We've got one more big job to do now.'

Jackson would prefer a switch to Newcastle, but the Toon will only bid for him should Isak leave - and they are determined not to let that happen. 14 Nicolas Jackson would be open to joining Newcastle Credit: Alamy EBERECHI EZE Just like his skipper Guehi, Eze continues to be linked with an exit away from Selhurst Park. With the Ademola Lookman deal seemingly off the cards, Arsenal may swoop for the Palace talisman in a package worth £55m to £60m - although Tottenham may attempt to hijack the transfer if they can't get Savinho. 14 Eberechi Eze may swap South London for North London by signing for Arsenal Credit: Alamy

Most bonkers transfer saga of the summer finally comes to an end as ex-Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom seals Ipswich move
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) FORMER Arsenal ace Chuba Akpom has moved to Ipswich Town to end one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer. Akpom, 29, joined the Gunners' esteemed Hale End academy back in 2002 and was promoted to the first team 11 years later. 2 Former Arsenal ace Chuba Akpom has moved to Ipswich after an insane transfer saga 2 Three different teams tried to sign Akpom from Ajax The striker was loaned out to Brentford, Coventry, Nottingham Forest, Hull, Brighton and Sint-Truiden during a five-year stint with the North Londoners that saw him amassing 12 appearances. The ex-England youth international has since undertaken a rather nomadic career that has seen him playing for Middlesbrough but also moving overseas for PAOK, Lille and most recently Ajax. But Akpom will be returning to English football following a bonkers transfer saga. The forward has joined Ipswich on a season-long loan from Ajax. It's believed the club have an obligation to buy Akpom if promoted to the Premier League. Akpom first looked set to move to Birmingham, who initially agreed a loan deal of their own. The Blues then fought off a hijack attempt from the centre-forward's former club Middlesbrough. But Ipswich were ultimately the ones that hijacked the deal and Akpom agreed to move to Portman Road. Birmingham still refused to give up and changed their offer to a permanent transfer at the eleventh hour and so Ajax accepted a £6million fee. The Dutch giants wanted Akpom to go to St Andrew's but he had already passed his Ipswich medical. Premier League stadium contains secret 400-year-old listed building which club turned into world-first fan attraction And the ex-Arsenal ace made it clear to the Amsterdam outfit he wanted to join Kieran McKenna's side. There was even more drama recently as Birmingham hosted Ipswich on Friday in the first game of the Championship season which ended with a 1-1 draw. Tensions boiled over at the end of the game with a 16-man brawl breaking out. Akpom has expressed his delight at the move, saying: 'I was really excited when I heard of the interest and I'm delighted to have joined a club with such big ambitions. 'I watch a lot of football and have always thought Ipswich would suit my style, so this move makes perfect sense. 'I have had lots of good experiences over the last few years, at Ajax and playing in the Champions League with Lille, and I feel like all of these have improved me as a player and helped me be the person I am now. 'I'm here to do as much as I can do to help the team, in the changing room and on the pitch, and I'll bring a winning mentality here.'

Hurzeler 'very positive' on pre-season
Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler says his team's improvement is an "ongoing process" but their final pre-season test was "very positive".The Seagulls rounded off their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 win over Wolfsburg at the Amex Stadium on Saturday after a 2-0 win over the same opponents in a behind-closed-doors friendly earlier in the day."Both teams played very intense," Hurzeler told BBC Radio Sussex."We have to improve but overall very positive. No injuries so far from what I've heard and now we can prepare for Fulham."We shouldn't emphasise in an artificial way this week before the start [of the season]. It's an ongoing process - you always have to develop and always have to improve."That's what we did last season and that is what we'll do this season. "We were improving in pre-season, we will improve this week. "We will focus on ourselves, try and be better in the details, try and be sharp for Fulham, and then its an ongoing process to develop as a group and as individual players."Summer signing Maxim de Cuyper scored Brighton's second goal at the Amex on Saturday and has caught his manager's eye with his impact since his £17.5m move from Club Brugge."I'm impressed because he integrated as a person quite quick and that is something I don't often see in the football business," Hurzeler added."He does in a very natural way and therefore you can see he immediately integrated with the team on the pitch by having good performances. I'm quite happy for him."Listen to the full chat on BBC Sounds
