Seychelles and Sweden satisfied with level of cooperation and ready to elevate bilateral relations to greater heights
H.E. Caroline Vicini, outgoing Ambassador of Sweden to Seychelles, paid a farewell visit to Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy, on Monday 5th May 2025.
During their meeting, Minister Radegonde expressed gratitude for Sweden' support to improve regional maritime security through its participation in EUNAVFOR Operation ATALANTA, a mission that continues to play a critical role in countering piracy in the Indian Ocean.
The Minister highlighted the importance of the United Nation's adoption of the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index (MVI) in 2024, an important development to support Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to gain access to more affordable financing.
Ambassador Vicini informed that her Government is ready to share expertise on sustainable port development with Seychelles, an area where Sweden has made significant progress. Additionally, both diplomats expressed interest in finalising a Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement to strengthen cooperation in addressing transnational crimes.
As a farewell gesture, Ambassador Vicini announced that she will donate a collection of children's books to the Seychelles National Library. Minister Radegonde expressed his appreciation for Ambassador Vicini's contributions during her tenure and conveyed his best wishes in her future endeavours.

Seychelles and Germany remain committed to strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations
H.E Mr. Sebastian Groth, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Seychelles, called on the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde, at Maison Quéau de Quinssy on Tuesday 27th May 2025. Ambassador Groth gave Minister Radegonde an overview of the political landscape in Germany now that the country is under new leadership. Minister Radegonde congratulated the new Government for their victory and looked forward to working with the new administration to propel bilateral relations. Minister Radegonde took the opportunity to request Germany's assistance in advocating for Seychelles to be removed from the European Union's list of Non-Cooperation Jurisdictions on Tax Matters (Seychelles is currently on the EU grey list). He also enlisted Germany's support to push for the implementation of the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index (MVI), which was adopted during the United Nations General Assembly in August 2024. The two diplomats discussed training opportunities to build capacity in the fields of energy and climate change, tourism related issues including the flights to be undertaken by Discover Airlines, as well as international issues which have a direct or indirect impact on Seychelles and Germany. Macron tells Netanyahu ordeal of Gaza civilians 'must end'
France's President Emmanuel Macron told Israel's leader during a phone call on Tuesday that the suffering of Gazan civilians "must end" and that only a ceasefire in Gaza could free remaining Israeli hostages. "The ordeal the civilian populations of Gaza are going through must end," Macron posted on X after the call with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He also called for "opening all humanitarian aid crossings" into the besieged Palestinian territory. The United Nation has warned that Gaza's humanitarian crisis is spiralling out of control, with no aid having entered the territory for weeks. Palestinian militant group Hamas said on Monday that Israel had offered a 45-day ceasefire if it releases half of the remaining hostages held in Gaza. A Hamas official told AFP that Israel had also demanded that the Palestinian militants disarm to secure an end to the Gaza war, but that this crossed a "red line". Macron said he told Netanyahu "the release of all hostages" and the " demilitarisation of Hamas" were still an absolute priority for France. He said he hoped for "a ceasefire, the release of all hostages, humanitarian aid, and then finally reopening the prospect of a political two-state solution". Macron irked Israel last week when he suggested Paris could recognise a Palestinian state during a United Nations conference in New York in June. Israel insists such moves by foreign states are premature. But Macron has said he hopes French recognition of a Palestinian state will encourage not just other nations to follow suit, but also countries who do not recognise Israel to do so.
